As I look into Asher's eyes I remember a poem I read after his death that helped me believe I wasn't crazy:
Theres a crack in the clock, a crack in time
Crack in my heart and cracks in my mind
Take me back to when it all started
So I can stop being broken hearted.Suspended in air, almost floating
But continously falling all the while
Moments are seen in reverse
As my memories just compile.Rising up, yet never landing
Morning comes to cushion the fall
In the evening, as I lay waiting
The sun hides, for night will cover all.Now comes a fear with falling
Steeped even within a dream
See the ground rapidly arising
So too with my silent scream.Heartbeat keeps on knocking
long after I wake
Do these dreams foreshadow
Falls that I must take?If I'd really known before what I needed most of all
I should've stayed where my heart was with my soul
Got nothing right now, just a blurred reflection
Of the broken time, trapped in suspension...I recall this poem as I look into his eyes. Is this even my Asher?
Is this Asher Dorian?
He steps towards me.
I step away.
He crosses his arms.
"Your so difficult Rose," he sighs.
I don't have a reaction to that. I'm so confused right now.
How is he back? He's dead!
"Y-your dead!" I stammer.
He rolls his eyes.
"Been there, done that. it wasn't very fun, so I decided to do something different," he finishes and winks at me.
Is this some kind of sick joke?
I need to get out of here!
"I-I need to-to go," I state looking at the ground with my eyes widened.
Asher cocks an eyebrow.
"And do what?" he asks.
"I've got to- you know, feed my turtle," I lie.
Asher bursts out laughing.
Anoplia and I stand there for a long, uncomfortable 15 seconds.
"That- that was a good one! Oh how I've missed you Rose!"
He takes a step towards me.
I take a step backwards and ram my back into my door.
I quickly turn around and race down my stairs.
"Rose!" Asher shouts and I high tail it out of my house.
I'm terrified!
Is this Asher?
How is this possible?
Am I deluding myself?
Theres a crack in the clock, a crack in time
Crack in my heart and cracks in my mind
Take me back to when it all started
So I can stop being broken hearted.I run as fast as I can. I bump into tons of people that are dancing and grinding against each other.
I see two people making out on my counter as I run.
"Hey," I scream at them and they automatically avert their eyes to me, " are you savages? You don't feel each other up on countertops! I eat my food there! I don't want to think of the dirty things you were doing every time I make peanutbutter and jelly!"
They curtly nod and jump off my counter and I continue running out of my house.
I turn my head to see Asher less than 5 inches behind me.
I open my door and I keep running.
I hear the uneven crunch of shoes hitting the ground as we run.
I run towards the lake. I don't know why I run there, but I do.
Suspended in air, almost floating
But continously falling all the while
Moments are seen in reverse
As my memories just compile.Asher finally catches us to me and pulls me to his body.
"I am your Asher Dorian and you are my Rose White. How can I prove that to you?" Asher demands gazing intently on my eyes. His icy blue eyes demand attention, and I give it to him.
My heart flutters and I think I'm drooling.
For a dead man, he's still got it.
He winks at me.
Gosh dang! He read the thought.
I breath hard as he moves his head closer to mine.
Rising up, yet never landing
Morning comes to cushion the fall
In the evening, as I lay waiting
The sun hides, for night will cover all."But you should be dead!" I whisper.
He chuckles.
"Asher, I'm serious! This doesn't make any sense!" I say then turn around.
He grabs my arm to turn my around and I loose my balance.
We tumble to the ground until I am on top of him.
Now comes a fear with falling
Steeped even within a dream
See the ground rapidly arising
So too with my silent scream."I happen to like this position," Asher says smugly.
I roll my eyes.
"God raised me from Hell," he says.
I can't breath.
"What?"
He smiles.
"He needs me to defeat Lucifer. Rose, I'm back. I love you, and I'm so, so very sorry I left you."
I lean my forehead against his.
Heartbeat keeps on knocking
long after I wake
Do these dreams foreshadow
Falls that I must take? He's back! He's finally back! After all that wishing and hoping and praying, he's back!
If I'd really known before what I needed most of all
I should've stayed where my heart was with my soul
Got nothing right now, just a blurred reflection
Of the broken time, trapped in suspension...Asher helps me up and we sit together for a long time. I lean my head against his shoulder and he snakes an arm around my waist.
"Rose," he says taking my hand," there's something important I have to tell you."
"What?" I ask suddenly concerned.
He takes my fingers and presses them to his neck.
I feel something move under my touch.
It's a pulse!
