"Asher! Stop!" I try to scream at him, but his body is already in the air.
I try to grab at his leg, but I miss.
He flies through the air like a ballerina doing a leap.
Then a light flashes in front of his body, and I can see a slight outline of a body.
That light pushed Asher to the ground.
I look back and God has vanished.
Where would God go?
The light that has an outline of a body dies down.
I realize that person is Alex!
He looks the same, but he doesn't.
Instead of being a scrawny boy with an acne problem, he is built and has a sharp jawline without a trace of acne on his face.
"Alex?" I ask.
Alex's eyes brighten and he pulls me into a hug. I'm so shocked, I can't even move.
"Rosie!" he says stepping out of our embrace.
Ew! I hate it when people call me that!
Asher gets off the ground and crosses his arms.
"Rosie?" he asks with annoyance and something else I can't specifically place.
Alex rolls his eyes.
"Wh- what are you doing here?"
Alex smiles and opens his mouth to talk.
"Well, technically I'm actually your guardian angel. My name isn't actually Alex, it's Gabriel. I'm an archangel."
Alex- or Gabriel finishes and I'm stunned.
Usually I predict my upcoming surprises pretty well. I really didn't see this one coming.
"Weren't you in my English class?" I ask as the pieces of the puzzle start to come together.
"Yes," he says,"I was watching over you disguised as Alex."
This is when Asher interrupts us.
"You were in our English class too?" he asks incredulously.
I turn to Asher.
"How much of this did you miss? Anoplia, Gabriel..." I trail off.
He narrows his eyes.
"I was a little distracted."
I turn my gaze back to Gabriel.
"But you asked me out!" I exclaim.
Asher's eyes widen in shock.
"He what?" he bellows.
The thing I couldn't place was jealousy! I've never really seen Asher jealous before.
Oops.
"I just wanted to distract her from mourning over a dead demon who was using her to rule Heaven; but that same night, that dead demon became a live demon!" Gabriel emits.
Asher pushes his face in front of Gabriel's.
"I'm not a demon anymore, I'm mortal. I do love Rose, I would never use her!" Asher proclaims.
Gabriel shoves a finger in Asher's face.
"You will always be a disgusting, nauseating, demon to me. The only one your fooling is Rose!"
Asher's face goes a dark, dark, (and I mean really dark) red.
Let's not do this, I say mentally telling Asher.
Asher pulls back from Gabriel. He takes my hand and he practically drags me to our house.
