Obsession

A few of the survivors rushed to your and Dwight's aid. Pulling the pair of you towards the cabins, they patched you up quickly and immediately began asking questions. You tried your best to explain what happened, how Ji-woon had attacked you both at the Entity's tree. Worry grew on their expressions as you explained the strange burning sensation and that Ji-woon had been harassing you.

One of the blonde survivors who had come to your rescue became increasingly uncomfortable as you spoke. Her dark blue eyes stared you up and down as she fiddled with the collar of her baby blue button up. When you finished your explanation, she came over and put a hand on your shoulder.

"I think I can explain some of that," she spoke quietly, fearfully.

Dwight kept his mouth shut, his fingers finding their way to your limp hand. You were both propped up on a bed in Claudette's cabin. The meek girl had a stash of healing serums in her cabinet and offered a few to you both. Gladly accepting, you both guzzled down the concoctions and listened carefully to the blonde's story. As she spoke, you began to recognize her as the infamous Laurie Strode, a victim in the Myers case. She explained how a killer could gain power from stalking their victim and sometimes an Obsession would develop. In that case, a bond is formed so that you will always know when the other is near.

At some point during the conversation, you felt Dwight squeeze your hand in his. Your breathing had become shallow and rapid and you didn't even notice until he pulled you out of it.

Supposedly there were many other ways a killer could become Obsessed. You brought up how it happened with the Trapper when you escaped him and she nodded profusely.

"Oh yes," grimacing, she wrung both hands together. "Pissing off a killer is a sure way to make them obsessed."

"Right..." you mouthed slowly, thinking back on how you narrowly missed his daunting cleaver. "He came back in another game and k-k..." stuttering, you found yourself having trouble recounting the tale.

Dwight gave you a side glance, trailing his fingers up to your wrist. His eyes were probing, testing to see your limits. When you didn't shake him off, he began sliding his touch up and down your whole arm.

"He killed you didn't he?" Laurie sighed. "Yes that can end an Obsession but it doesn't always." Pausing, her soft brows knitted together. "You said Trickster mentioned making a deal with the Entity?"

Trickster? Was that Ji-woon's killer name of choice? You supposed it made sense since he was planning on going solo with the name in the past.

Nodding, you swallowed the lump forming in your throat.

Laurie and Claudette seemed to think for a moment, exchanging quick glances with each other.

"Why would a killer need to make a deal for an Obsession?" Claud mumbled half to herself.

"Unless they wanted the effects to be permanent..." Dwight spoke out suddenly, a hardness in his tone. "I saw the way this guy was treating (Y/n)." Casting you another glance, his glare softened. "You knew him in real life, right?"

"Unfortunately..." sighing, your head drooped and you stared at your lap. "He said something about watching my streams online. I...I think he may have been stalking me..."

"Streams?" Laurie questioned, confusion very evident on her features.

"Ah, it's just something you do online!" backtracking, you attempted to explain but quickly realized this concept was far beyond Laurie's understanding. This woman existed in the 70s and after that, this twisted realm was all she knew. "Basically, he was stalking me from afar!" you settled on an explanation she could fathom. "At least I think!"

"And then he murdered you," Dwight added curtly.

You were surprised the leader had remembered that detail. You only mentioned it once on your first day here and it had only been an offhanded comment. Ji-woon's name hadn't even entered the conversation then so you had to guess he was just assuming.

Dwight realized you were eyeing him and suddenly it was as if he were far more interested in the surroundings of the cabin. His gaze flicked in every which way other than yours.

"An Obsession carrying over from the real world..." Claudette sucked in air through her teeth. "Sounds just like you, Laurie..."

The blonde gave a short nod. "Yeah, but Michael has calmed down a lot since the years passed. I've seen his Obsession change more than a few hundred times." Addressing you again, Laurie gave a soft smile. "I'm sure the same will happen with you and Trickster!"

"There's so much time in this realm," Claud agreed with a fervent nod. "Just do your best to make it through. Suffering is such a large part of this world...it's unavoidable..."

"But we'll be here to help!" Laurie chimed in sweetly.

Their encouragement warmed your heart, but somehow you knew this wasn't getting any better any time soon. Ji-woon was determined to destroy you and anyone close. Someone was going to get hurt and it would be your fault. It had already happened twice already with Dwight.

The man shifted uncomfortably next to you. "Can we leave?" he directed the question at you. "I want time to rest before we're pulled into the next game."

You nodded, wondering why he had even thought to ask. Perhaps he was just being polite of your situation? Regardless, you heavily agreed with the prospect and grunted as you pulled yourself to your feet. The pain subsided swiftly after taking Claudette's medicine but you were still sore. Every joint was as stiff as the iron at Macmillan's Estate.

Dwight stood quickly himself, pulling you along with a hand in yours. As his role suggested, he really seemed to prefer taking the lead. Laurie and Claudette waved goodbye as you two exited the cabin, calling after you.

"Come back if you guys need anything! Anything at all!"

Dwight tugged you through the rows of cabins. A few survivors were mingling about and they eyed the pair of you curiously as you passed. Your home lingered in the distance but Dwight pulled you along further, quiet contemplation masking his features.

"Hey," you tugged softly at his hand, "Mine's back there."

"Oh!" he stopped, seeming to snap out it. "Right. Sorry. I guess I wasn't thinking."

Pausing, he slowly let his fingers slip from yours. "I wish I could protect you better!" he blurted suddenly, looking at you with such intensity that a blush began to form on your cheeks.

"Wh-what are you saying?" shaking your head incredulously. "You rescued me! If it weren't for you, I'd be dead on that dirt path back there!"

"No," shaking his head solemnly, he brought a hand up and pointed towards the various stab wounds littering your bare legs. "You were injured and it's my fault. If I hadn't provoked the Trickster..."

"Stop," you spoke softly, "Ji-woon was going to find a way to hurt me no matter what. It isn't your fault."

Dwight's cheeks were quite flustered and he scrambled for words. "R-regardless, I should do better! And I will!" Turning to walk away, he threw a promise over his shoulder. "Next game! You'll see!"

And with that, he rushed off, leaving you pleasantly surprised.
