The night's plans weighed heavily on Chan's shoulders. As Student President, he had the responsibility of ensuring the school had fewer problems to worry about when it came to werewolf affairs. The increasing knowledge of their existence to the outside world was alarming and humans have made several attempts to track down and annihilate them.
On the other hand, as the leader of his team, he was in charge of ensuring that they made the school proud. A group of supposed misfits finding fame amid nothing but talent. Due to his record of being a sane werewolf, the Headmaster happily put him in charge of the team.
At a time, everything had gone well. He lived in peace even when he was surrounded by chaos in the form of seven boys, he was happy until...that night.
He spared a glance at the six boys beside him now. A feeling in his gut kept tugging and pulling at him to stop the night's event and take Jeongin to their underground cell. Before he got a chance to voice out his thoughts, Han spoke.
"Hyung, why do you have that look? Don't have that look. I've looked forward to this too much for you to have that look." The boy pleaded and suddenly, the others were looking at him with a similar wariness that made his skin crawl. He didn't want to be the one that pulled the rug from under them after they had come this far. They only had to play it safe and he hoped everything would be as fun as they have planned.
He replaced the worry with a subtle smile. In an unknown spot in Levanter, Han had already placed a personal item which the team is to search and find using their werewolf senses before the full moon. "How long do we have?" Chan asked.
"Twenty minutes," Han replied.
"Han, don't let Jeongin out of your sight. The rest of you, we have ten minutes to get it and return before the full moon." They all nodded and moved forward to crouch in between the tree they used to mark starting line.
Jeongin counted down, happy to be involved in the team's night games. The moment he gave them the order to go, each member leapt into the air and landed with a thud on their fours.
Chan glanced at them one more time before speeding off in his direction, following the scent he thought to have perceived earlier on. His eyes were laser-focused and his mind calculating all the possible places Han could have hidden whatever it was he had chosen. He had come close on two occasions but found out it was a fake trail leading to a paper buried in the soil.
It read, "oops! Not here."
Typical of the boy to have prepared beforehand for every possible opportunity. He enjoyed the thrill of making them suffer especially him who had the worst job of cleaning up after his teammate. It was only a matter of time before he would dig a hole and dump the boy inside without looking back.
Chan picked-up speed after arriving at his third fake trail when he heard the screeching sound coming from the opposite direction. His heart beat faster when he recognized the voice as Felix. What could have caused him to scream out? His feet carried him down the familiar path of the forest to where he could perceive Felix.
As he approached the scene, he slowed down until he came to a sudden stop a few feet from Felix. The boy was lying down on his back whilst clutching his stomach with a tight grip. He had changed back. Chan shifted immediately and wore the clothes which he had been carrying.
He crouched down beside the boy and tried to get his attention. "Felix. Felix, look at me. Focus." He grabbed his head with one hand and slowly lifted the boy's hand from his stomach with the other. He sucked in the night's air so quick he almost choked.
Blood.
All he saw was the crimson red liquid dripping out but the scar had a different colour. A shade of blue and green he had never seen in his life. The lines stretched out around his side and all over the dagger wound. Whoever had done it knew precisely what they were doing and Chan struggled to keep his anger from blinding him. Felix needed him even though he didn't know how to help him.
"Who did this?" He managed to ask. The boy shook his head aggressively. He shut his eyes and began to convulse in his arms. He watched in trepidation as the boy fought the effects of the poison whilst he held his head closer to his chest.
Behind him, he heard the others shuffling around to get a look at the situation. Their anxious breaths filled him with more terror. Felix stopped vibrating but passed out afterwards. Without missing a step, he picked the boy up and looked around his teammates. "We need to take him to a doctor."
As he walked, he heard Changbin who was about to speak before he was elbowed by Minho into silence. Moments like this makes him appreciate the presence of the other. He knew when Chan needed backup and stepped up almost immediately.
Chan stood motionless, fear crept into his body when he spun around to confirm what his mind was telling him. "Where's Jeongin?" He asked.
All heads turned towards the one whose eyes were as wide as a deer caught in a headlight. The words were in his throat, every curse word, struggling to spill out of him but he knew, even that couldn't encapsulate what he felt. He released a sharp breath before speaking again.
"Seungmin, Minho, Changbin, FIND HIM." He dismissed them and they shifted immediately before running into the woods.
"You, let's go." He pointed at Han who nodded slowly. His voice was cold, detached and laced with fear of the unknown. He should have listened to his gut feeling. Now, he had one injured member and another, lost in the woods as a newborn.
Unable to hold back from shifting anymore, he turned. However, whatever Felix had been given restricted him from shifting despite the full moon. How is THAT even possible? NO ONE should be able to resist a full moon. They could control their actions, yes, but not a shift.
So, Chan carried him on his back and sped through the woods until they got back to school grounds. He shut the mental door to all mind-boggling questions and focused on getting the boy back to optimal health.
He had barely finished dropping the boy on the infirmary bed when Headmaster Jin-Young entered with a thunderous voice.
"BANG CHAN, WHAT DID YOU DO? Or should I rephrase and ask, WHAT DIDN'T YOU DO?"
Shit!
