Dear Diary,
It’s the first day of school today. Finally! I can’t wait. We received our timetables and books last night, and I’ve been up and about for almost an hour now. It’s only eight, so I’ll go eat after I’ve finished writing.
Jess has been up to no good all the time. I can’t really prove it’s her, because she’s been avoiding me like the plague, but she keeps on pestering my friends. She keeps hiding Johnny’s and Mekisha’s stuff. And most of all, for which I’m going to get her, she’s still trying to kill Nicholas. I’m surprised he’s been able to hold out for this long. She drops logs on him, or tries to drown him, or else tries hitting him herself, and she makes him trip the WHOLE TIME! Somehow he always seems to escape her clutches. If she throws things at him, he always seems to be on his guard, or he just happens to be an inch or two out of her range. It’s driving her mad. I love it.
I’ve been trying to get in contact with her to demand what her problem is. I still haven’t found out how I’m responsible for her death, but I haven’t seen her since Christmas.
Anyway, I thought I’d write a bit to get some of this infuriating excitement out of my system. Today I’ve got a bunch of crap subjects. At least I think they’re boring – History, Alchemy, Blacksmithy, Ancient Runes, Offensive Magic, Healings and Blessings, Arithmancy and Logic. The only things I like from the above is Offensive Magic (taught by Professor Sandath Helishev) and Blacksmithy, and that’s taught by that bubble-beak Professor Cesare.
So we’re going to have seven subjects every day, each for an hour (help me), and it all starts at nine.
I think I’ll go grab something to eat, and meet up with Nicholas for a bit. Wish me luck.
Seriously.
P.S Luckily I’ve found a good hiding spot for my journal, to keep it out of the clutches of certain people named Jessica.
I took a deep breath and shoved my journal into my usual hiding spot (I’d made sure that no one but me knew about it). Grabbing my things and putting on my leather jacket, I made my way to the Main Hall. I spotted Nicholas instantly and smiled in greeting. He did the same.
I only took some cereal and orange juice.
"So," Johnny said from next to me, "What’ve you got first?"
"History, you?" I asked.
"Hey, we’ve all got the same!" Mekisha said from Johnny’s other side. I chuckled.
"I only look forward to Offensive Magic, Blacksmithy and Magical Creatures. The rest of the subjects can stuff themselves," I said.
Johnny chuckled, "That so, huh? I think I’m gonna like History and Ancient Runes best-"
"Both of which are unexplainably useless," I finished.
"I agree with Liz," Mekisha said, "Which job is going to ask you how many boyfriends Felore Moonray had?"
I chuckled, but Johnny seemed offended, "But I still think it’d be interesting."
Mekisha snorted, "Suit yourself. Honestly, I don’t really want to know. I hear she was a babe – she probably had more than a few guys to keep her company at night."
"Mekisha!" I exclaimed, laughing.
"You two don’t know the beauty of the knowledge of-"
"Please, Johnny, school’s not started yet; wait a bit for the big words, will you?" Mekisha said. That shut Johnny up for the rest of our meal, while Mekisha and I talked about our timetables. The only subjects the three of us didn’t have together were Blacksmithy and Offensive Magic. We each had Blacksmithy in different classes, but only Johnny was absent in Offensive Magic.
