Mel, what the vétt are you doing? Evan's voice boomed in my head. Have you forgotten what tomorrow will bring?

No--

Then leave him. Now. What would happen if he kisses you?

Evan was right, like always. I could not let Kano kiss me on the balcony, so I came up with the only excuse I could make. Before I laid a hand on the door handle, I decided to teleport back to my room instead of walking there. I looked around, but did not see him lying on the bed.

I thought you were asleep, Evan. How do you know about the balcony?

You are not the only one with magic, he responded before a flash of light and Evan both appeared right in front of me.

"I will not kill him," I said defiantly.

"Either you do, or I will," he growled. "Shen, Mel, I told you not to get too close to him. This is why you should always listen to me."

"Why can we not just take him prisoner?" I pleaded. "This family has already lost enough members, do they really need to deal with the loss of another?"

"It will not matter by the time this is finished, Mel. They will all die one way or another."

All I could come up with was, "It would make their final days happier, then."

He huffed, but did not respond. I watched him scheme, weighing how this would go over in the morning.

"Would he not be more valuable as a bargaining chip?" I inwardly cringed at myself for lowering our relationship down to this, but how else would I convince Evan to let him live?

Finally, he sighed. "Fine. We will not kill him. But if your book gets burnt because of this, do not come crying to me about it."
