"I'm sorry! It was a mistake, please don't do this!" I pleaded to the gods in front of me, searching in their judging eyes for just a small tinge of mercy. I didn't find any, I wasn't surprised but it made me even more terrified of what was going to happen to me next.
"What you did was unforgivable, you knew the rules and still chose to break them. You leave us with no other choice y/n", Toshinori, one of the highest gods, said coldly.
"But it wasn't just my fault, why isn't he here too?", I said, coming up with a pity excuse to somehow save myself from the huge problem I got into.
"We didn't find any evidence of him being involved with any of this, he's a very reliable archangel, he would never do something like this". Enji, the most powerful god at the moment, replied to my question. Of course he would defend him, he's his favorite after all, if he only knew everything he's done and not only to me, but to a lot of angeles too.
With that, Aizawa and Hizashi, two powerful archangels, grabbed each of my arms, dragging me out of the white room where it was usual to have this type of trial.
The moment we exited through the double doors, I caught a glimpse of red feathers from the corner of my eye. That red color was unmistakable, after all, he was one of the only archangels with colored wings; one of the many reasons why Enji always favored him. Not even sparing him a last glance, with tears in my eyes and regret in my heart, I accepted my fate and let the archangels drag me away.
If only I hadn't fallen into his sweet lies.
If only I hadn't given into pleasure.
If only... everything would be different.
I abruptly sat up from my position in the bed, I woke up from my nightmare with salty tears running down my cheeks and sweat dripping from my forehead. My breath came in short gasps, what was that? It didn't feel like a nightmare, more like I've already been through that. But I can't remember anything. I tried to calm myself down from what I just dreamed, pushing my thoughts aside to avoid an oncoming headache.
I stood up from the bed and made a beeline to the bathroom, washing my face trying to get rid of the sweat and tears that adorned my face just seconds ago. I brushed my teeth, clearing my mind of the intrusive thoughts that nightmare brought me.
I changed myself from the clothes I slept in, to one of the black dresses in the closet. Hell was very hot during the day so I didn't bother to grab a jacket.
Exiting my room, I made my way to the dining room, hopeful to finally get something much needed to eat. I was famished and the single thought of food right now made my stomach start grumbling and my mouth salivating.
After what felt like hours of walking and losing myself in this big castle, I eventually found the dining room. Sitting in one of the chairs at the head of the large table was Dabi reading a book while eating a bowl of fruit.
The dining table was simply decorated with some black roses in cherry colored vases, a huge chandelier on top with black candles and rubies. The table was littered with many kinds of breakfast food waiting to be eaten.
I approached Dabi with hesitant steps. I didn't want to disrupt his lecture but it startled me when he spoke up. "Eat whatever you want, I can literally hear your stomach from over here; it's annoying me". His tone sounded annoyed so I did what he said and took a seat beside him, taking the plate in front of me and filling it with the delicious looking food.
I started eating and the first bite tasted like heaven, scratch that, not even the food in heaven tasted so good as this. "The food is really good", I said, trying to start some conversation with him, maybe even try to get to know him.
"Chiyo's the one who cooks around here. Is not that bad", he mentioned, not taking his eyes off the book. I made a mental note to compliment Chiyo's food next time I saw her.
"What are you reading?" I asked, curious to know his interest in literature. I enjoyed reading too, so if we had the same taste maybe it could be something in common we could share and talk about to try and make my stay a little more pleasant for both of us. Now that I think about it, he didn't mention how long he would let me stay here. My thoughts were interrupted when he spoke again.
"Nosy aren't you?" he said, finally looking at me, "Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky". He closed the book and put it beside his bowl, taking a piece of pineapple and eating it.
"I like some of his books but I like Osamu Dazai better" I said, reminiscing on the days I would spend hours in the library with my head buried in a different book every day. I missed those days, everything was easier back then. My expression dropped to one of nostalgia and a little bit of sadness.
Dabi noticed this and in a feeble attempt of bringing up my mood he said "there's a library here, if you'd like to read something so you're not bored or anything. It can get lonely here sometimes", he pushed his now empty bowl aside. "You can ask Chiyo to take you later today", he grabbed his book and stood up.
I slightly smiled, content to know I could go back to read. "Thank you, I would love that".
He started walking away from the dining room and I quickly followed, "where are you going?" I didn't know my way around the castle so I didn't know the way back to my room. The best option I had was to follow him and wait for him to take me back.
"None of your business. Actually, now that I think about it, we're low on food, would you mind going to the market and getting some fresh fruit and goods?" he said while continuing to walk and look straight ahead.
"Yeah, I could do that. If you just tell me where this market is and lend me some money I can bring food before noon." I wasn't entirely sure if this was the best idea, but it was the least I could do. He fed me and gave me a place to stay. Besides, I wanted to take this opportunity to learn my way through hell since I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.
"Of course, there's a tote bag on the table near the entrance and the market is just a couple blocks away from here. It shouldn't be hard to find." he told me, leading the way to the entryway.
We reached the exit doors and he grabbed the bag and handed it to me, "the money there should be enough, now, off you go". The thing I didn't know was that this was just some sort of game he was doing to see how I would handle myself alone, just something entertaining for him.
Great! I'll be completely alone roaming the streets of hell filled with many sorts of dangerous demons, what could possibly go wrong?
