Lyra's POV
We waited as Bard was talking, I leaned into Kili because I was freezing.

"He's talking to someone...and pointing to us...now they're shaking hands!" Bilbo whisper-yelled.

"That villain! He's selling us out!" Dwalin snarled. Then fish plopped-well, slapped-onto us. Now I'm not gonna eat fish for a few months!! We groaned and cursed, but bard kicked out barrels.

"Quiet down!" He hissed.

I sighed and Kili held me closer,"I've come to hate fish now."

He chuckled,"You and I both."

Why couldn't the fish be cooked?!

Because it'd be too suspicious. I heard Kili's voice in my head.

"Wha...you heard me?" I gasped quietly.
"Yes, why?"
"Well...that doesn't happen until..."
"Until..."
"Kili, it happens when you find you're One..."

He was silent. Oh to all Valar...he doesn't want to be my one! I'm just his toy!

"You're not my toy, Lyra. Amralimê."
I froze."I don't know what that means."
"You do. I said it in English in Laernian..."

When we were intimate, and I meant it.

Kili...I can never give you a child. You know that.

I don't care, if you're with me longer than time itself, then I will be content with our existence.

I smiled and held onto him. Then we came to a stop.

"Goods inspection! Oh, hello Bard! What can I do for you today?"
"Hello Percy. I am cold and tired and ready for home."
"You and me both."

"Wait!" I heard a nasty voice."This says empty barrels...from the woodland realm. Except, these aren't empty, now are they Bard?."

Son of an Orc!

"You're assigned as a bargeman, not a fisherman!"
"C'mon, Alfred, these people need to eat!"
"These fish, are illegal! Dump them over the side!"

No!

"And when the town finds out you're dumping fish back into the lake...what then? When the rioting starts? Who will protect you and our Master."

"Stop! You may be the people's hero, Bard! But we'll find you, we know where you live."
"It's a small town, everybody knows where everyone lives."

"Raise the gate!"

We moved, then came to a stop. Everyone got out as Bard payed a man.
"You didn't see them, they were never here. The fish you can have for nothing."

We followed him through the town, but guards spotted us, so Thorin led on. We knocked out guards and they fell. We hid but a woman pulled me to her and tied a scarf over my head and ears.

"Be very quiet." She whispered, then placed plants down to hide the guard as the other woman set baskets and cloth bags down to hide the other one. I looked up slightly and saw the head guard looking out direction, then a guard stirred, so the woman elbowed a plant subtly and it fell on his head. I suppressed a laugh, then Bard stalled them.

"Thank you, how can I repay you?"

"No need, the name's Hilda, just keep that scarf, my neighbor gave it to me and I think it's hideous!" She whispered, so I smiled and nodded. Then Kili pulled me towards the company so I waved and left with him.

"This way!"

"Da! Our house, it's being watched!"

Bard hesitated. Then looked to me.
"Lyra, Pema, go with my son, they'll think you're little girls visiting my daughter."
"Alright." We then followed his son, who I came to know as Bain, as Bard led the dwarves the other way.

We entered and there were two girls.
"Who's this? Where's Da?" The eldest wondered.
"He'll be back, I gotta go help him." Bain then left.

"Hello, we're Pema and Lyra."
"Come, Tilda, can you give them clothes as I wash their hair? I'm Sigrid." The little one went to her room as Sigrid washed our hair in the sink.

"I will be forever grateful." Pema whispered as she finished.
"Payment will be doing my sisters hair, I can never do it right in her opinion."
"I'm on it." I smiled as Tilda gave me clothes. I then did her hair as we waited, it was a French braid with tiny other fishtail braids in it.

"Thank you!" She smiled, then Bard came in.

"Da! Where were you? I was worried!" Sigrid smiled and hugged him and Tilda smiled and squeezed his legs. He then turned to Bain.
"Get them." Bain then left and I heard splashes.
"Da...why are there dwarves coming out of our toilet?"
"Will they bring us luck?"

I laughed and sat next to Pema.
"Pema? You alright? You look pale."
"I'll be fine."
The dwarves came up and gathered around, getting new clothes.
