Hyunjin had been waiting for 5 minutes, and as soon as he saw cameras flashing and people pulling out their phones he knew Jeongin had arrived
He was wearing pieces that looked very comfortable. An oversized green crew neck paired with baggy sweats and sneakers. He also wore a baseball cap and a black mask, though his cover surely didn't work
They stared into each other's eyes before the older got up to pull the younger's chair, to which Jeongin smiled as a thank you
"Ah, pardon me but I've already ordered drinks for us Innie. Would you like a pastry to go with it-perhaps a strawberry danish like usual?" The older asked a little too formally, the younger smiled it off though. Not really liking how he spoke at such a formal tone with someone like Jeongin
"Hyungie it's okay, don't worry about me! How have you been though?" The younger one didn't know how else to start a conversation with Hyunjin. He didn't just want to sit there in uncomfortable silence
Soon their drinks arrived and Jeongin happily sipped his drink as he looked around his surroundings, though he could feel the older's eyes glued on to him the whole time
"So..uhm you have a free day today. Let's go somewhere, yeah?"
"If that's okay with you, Hyungie! I'm going to a club with some of the hyungs, if you'd like to come you're more than welcome to!" He didn't see that energy coming, a moment ago he was swarmed by fans and cameras
"Well, since I don't have a shoot till next week I'm sure it won't hurt. I've missed your energetic self, Little one," His mouth parted and before he knew it, the nickname just slipped right out
"I've missed you too...and I apologize for acting out on you at the hotel. That wasn't very good of me..." He looked anywhere else but at Hyunjin, a rosy blush forming on the apples of his cheeks
"It's okay, I understand. As you know I'm here for the shoots and stuff, after the...internship some connections happened and I landed in the company. Although Minho hyung and I are trying to convince Lix to open a dance studio. The three of us." He had to pause in the middle of his long trail. He didn't want to be stuck in the past, though he's just good at keeping his feelings locked up inside
"How wonderful. So coming to the States was a good idea then? Yej told me you were happy." The younger said that so easily, not even noticing how he worded it
"I have a question, Innie"
"Answer mine first, Hyung"
"No, because I regret it." He looked away not wanting to say anything else. He wasn't able to
"O-oh, then what's your question Hyungie?" Jeongin bit his lower lip, immediately thinking about what the older man was planning to ask him. Still not looking at him or even at his direction, Jeongin just sipped the last bits of his drink
"Look at me first, maybe I'll ask then"
Jeongin looked at him with a tired smile, one that reflected on how the past four years had been on his side
"For four years I've been thinking about why you didn't go, why you didn't want to be with me. But when I saw the news, when I saw your debut stage, immediately I knew. Let me ask you once though, did you even want to go? Or did you just not want to lose the opportunity? I mean, look at you now Innie. You look different, even the way you gaze your eyes at me looks different." The older was quite the observant, he depicted little things on a daily basis
The younger one, on the other hand, was surprised by him. He didn't feel the right to answer yet the question was directly to him
"I wanted to, Hyunjin. I really did, but I already gave you up didn't I? And besides, you got caught up with Seungmin hyung right after..."
"There were no feelings attached as well as strings. You had no hope for us Little one, I understand you yes but I'm afraid to say that I waited all day. I waited, holding up a sign. Even had a smile that touched my ears, two hours after your designated arrival I asked everywhere if the flight got delayed or even cancelled. I was even late to my first day of internship because of that. I don't blame you at all, Innie, it's understandable, but I just wanted you to try, to have hope." He wiped the younger's single tear on his cheek before paying for their drinks
They sat in comfortable silence during the ride to the club. Hyunjin had offered to drive Jeongin as he got to the cafe by the office car. Jeongin sighed and held Hyunjin's right (free) hand, playing with it and admiring the veins. He intertwined it with his own and grinned at the older
"I must be an idiot saying this over and over again, but I apologise for everything hyung. Friends?"
Oh shit. Friends. Only friends.
Heh Surprise update!?!😼😈
