We went into the breakfast hall and sat down in our spots. Supposedly we had regular seating plans, which I wasn’t aware of. “Good morning.” I smiled at Joe as he sat down. He just looked at me, before looking away. Luke gave me a questioning look but I just shrugged, unaware of what just happened. After breakfast I got changed into a plain black bikini, putting my morning’s clothes over the top. “I’ll meet you at the pool, there’s something I have to do first.” I told Kaylie. She just nodded and walked off. I knocked waiting for someone to open the door. “Hello?” A tall boy answered. “Hi, is Joe in?” I questioned. “Yeah, he’s in the shower right now, I’m actually going to go for a swim, so you can wait in here if you want.” He lingered on. “Shelby.” I smiled, assuming he wanted my name. “Uh, hi Shelby, I’m Aidan.” He smiled back. “Well, come in.” He gestured. I walked in as he walked out. “I’ll see you at the pool Aidan.” I don’t know why I said that, but I did. “Bye Shelby.” He laughed. I waited for Joe, by walking around his room awkwardly. You are allowed to bring photos in here, to decorate your room, to make you feel a bit more at home. I saw Joe’s. They were a few of him and his sister, they looked really close. “Uhm?” I heard Joe behind me. I jumped, turning quickly. Why does he always have to be shirtless? I couldn’t stop staring at his body. He was only wearing a towel. Gosh dang it.
Me: “Sorry, your roommate, Aidan, said I could come in, if that’s okay?”
Joe: “Why are you even here?”
Me: “It’s nice to see you too. But I came here to ask why you shut me down this morning. What did I do?”
Joe: “Like you don’t know.”
Me: “Look, if this is about last night, I only just got out of a relationship; I’m not ready to get back into one.”
Joe: “Well then you need to change the signs you were giving me. Because from where I was standing, you wanted me to kiss you.”
Me: “Joe I -“
Joe: “Forget it. I don’t care anymore.”
Me: “Oh shush. You obviously care; otherwise you wouldn’t be acting like this. Look I didn’t mean to send you the wrong signs. I don’t even know how to flirt, so you must have got it wrong somewhere.” After I said those words, he took a few more steps closer to me. We were inches apart; I could feel his breath on me.
Joe: “If this isn’t what you want, then maybe you should control your breathing more.” He smirked.
Me: “Joe please, I just want to be friends.” He stepped back.
Joe: “Fine.” He walked out the door. I was left standing in his room, thinking about what just happened. Do I like him? I don’t even know anymore.I slowly walked towards the pool, thinking about what happened. I don’t know what to do. The point of me to come here was so I can focus on getting better. This boy, Joe, he isn’t helping. “Shelby!” Luke came over. “Why are you so happy?” I laughed. He just blushed. “Does it have to do with a certain Skye?” I giggled. “I will push you in the pool.” He replied. I just laughed. I went and put my towel down next to his before taking off my clothes. Leaving my bikini on of course. When I put my top down, I turned and noticed Joe looking at me, like checking me out looking at me. I smiled at myself. Maybe I do like him?
“Come on Shelby, get in!” Luke whined. “Hmm, maybe not.” I laughed. “Fine.” He just smiled. Why was he smiling so creepy? Just as I was about to question him, I was flung over someone’s shoulder before landing in the water. I turn around to see Aidan, with a big smile on his face. “Thanks, much appreciated.” I laughed. “Oh no problem” He replied. “I see you two met.” Luke inputted. “Yeah, she came looking for Joe this morning. Obviously that didn’t turn out well, seeing as he is over sulking in the corner.” Aidan joked. “Not as well as I thought it would.” I replied. “Shelby, can we talk?” Luke asked. I just nodded before walking to the other end of the pool, sitting on a ledge.
Luke: “Shelb, you need to be careful of Joe.”
Me: “Why?”
Luke: “He isn’t who you think he is. The reason he got in here, supposedly it is really bad. He is a dangerous person.”
Me: “But they are just rumours Luke, you don’t know if they are true.”
Luke: “I’m just warning you.”
Kaylie: “I was going to warn you earlier too.” Where did she even come from?
Me: “You heard the rumours too?”
Kaylie: “I heard that he is just taking this as a way to get with as most girl as he can, and you’re next on his list.”
Me: “And what about you?”
Kaylie: “For about a week, before he dropped me like nothing.”
Me: “Really?”
Luke: “She isn’t the only one. And if you are next, you need to stay away.”
Me: “I promise.”
I don’t know if that promise was sincere. Joe doesn’t seem like the type to just sleep around. If word got around that I was ‘next’ then why haven’t I heard it? I don’t know what to do now. After a bit of swimming I jumped out and sat down on a lounge chair eating some fruit salad. “You’re next.” Aidan laughed. “Next at what?” I questioned. “Being thrown in the pool of course.” “No not again, I’ll pass.” I laughed. He just walked off. That was weird… Maybe I am next for Joe.
I decided to go back to my room. “Hey.” Joe barely spoke. I jumped. “Joe!” I screamed. “Why are you in my room?” I asked.
Joe: “I needed to tell you I was sorry, I can’t ignore you. It’s too hard.”
Me: “Uh, so I am next.”
Joe: “Next?”
Me: “I was warned that you just like to get with girls then drop them.”
Joe: “I use to. I’ve changed. Once I met you.”
Me: “How cliché.”
Joe: “I promise you Shelby, I wouldn’t do that to you. You’re special to me.”
Me: “Was Kaylie ‘special’ as well?”
Joe: “Kaylie? So you’ve been speaking about me?” He smirked.
Me: “Wipe that smirk off your face. No we weren’t speaking about you, they were warning me about you and your attempt to sleep with me. So get out of my room. NOW!”
Joe: “I promise Shelby, I wouldn’t do that to you, not anymore.”
Me: “Just go!” I yelled.
He just looked at me like I gave him the worst news ever. Maybe he is sincere? That look meant something, heartbreak. That’s how I looked at Stefan when I called it quits. He can’t be heart broken, we just met.
