I woke to the sound of my alarm clock. I turned over, shutting it off before getting out of bed. I stretched, hearing my joints give a quick pop. I sat up and began to rub the sleep out of my eyes.

"Another boring day-" I sighed. I stood, gaining my balance before walking over to my closet. I picked out a clean uniform and threw it onto my bed before leaving briefly to perform my morning bathroom routine. I re-entered the room soon after, getting dressed and brushing out my hair before adding my signature cap to complete my look. I fixed my bed quickly before walking downstairs. As expected, my aunt and uncle had already left for work. I looked in the microwave, where they normally left a plate of breakfast for me. To my surprise, there was only a note for me. I opened it.

"Good morning Shuichi,
As you know, your uncle and I are currently at work. We won't be home for a few days this time, we're really close to cracking a big case. I left emergency numbers on the fridge, prepacked bentos for your breakfast and lunch, and a spare house key on your school lanyard. Mr. Hanako from next door knows you'll be home by yourself, if anything happens, don't be afraid to call him or us. We love you and miss you Shuichi.
                                        Your's truly, Aunty Kyoko"

I smiled at the note, she was always really kind to me. Aunt Kyoko is the whole reason I wanted to become a detective. Uncle Makoto has also been really kind. I'm really grateful they took me in. My parents also love me, but they have a lot of overseas work so its hard to talk to them. I pinned the note to the fridge, before opening it and grabbing a bento. I checked my school lanyard for the spare key and there it was. I packed everything away before locking the door and leaving my home. I grabbed my car keys out from my backpack and slipped into my car. It took about 15 minutes to drive from my house to my school, but when I got there is when all hell broke loose. I parked my car and rushed to the student council room, avoiding the clusters of moody teenagers trampling through the hallways.

"Shuichi, you're late." Kaede, the president, stated. Kaede has always been my best friend, since childhood. However, she began to act differently when we reached highschool and was elected student council president. She immediately promoted me and a few others to be part of her council, and she began to rule. I think the power gets to her head sometimes.

"Sorry Kaede, my aunt and uncle left early this morning, I had to collect the things they left for me." I responded, putting my belongings into my assigned locker, leaving my bento out so I could eat it. She walked past me, giving a huff as she walked.

"God, this council is so incompetent." She stated with a harsh tone. I nodded in silence. I sat on my chair, which was next to her's and began to eat my food. Kaito wasn't here yet either, and we can't start a meeting without him. I placed an earbud in my ear and let my music play, neglecting the loose chatter of my fellow councilmen. I had just finished my breakfast as Kaito burst through the door.

"God, I hate underclassmen." He mumbled just loud enough for everyone to hear. I snickered quietly in agreement. He brushed himself off and sat in his seat as well.

"Kaito, try to be on time. Especially on days like this.." Kaede said, her voice trailing off toward the end. Kaito nodded.

"Are you guys nervous?" Himiko asked quietly, not looking up from her phone.

"Nervous? For what?" I asked. Everyone seemed to turn to me in disbelief.

"Shuichi, today is the day they're letting kids from the other side through. We're meeting the other student council today." Tenko replied.
