Chapter Fourteen: Losing a Friend
"The high school jock Rainbow Dash having a crush. No matter how hard I tried, I simply couldn't wrap my head around it," Rarity admitted. She spun around in her chair by the vanity table to point at Dash. "But after finding out that Applejack is the one you like, everything just makes perfect sense."
Rainbow Dash sat on the floor, her back leaning against the side of Rarity's white and purple bed. She nervously scratched at the back of her head. "Yeah..."
It was Saturday afternoon, the day after Pinkie Pie's party. The three friends had decided to come together for a follow-up of their previous conversation, and after Dash's request of a more secluded area, Rarity had been more than delighted to offer her home.
Twilight glanced down at Rainbow Dash from her spot on the bed. She shut her book and placed it on the nightstand before scooting over on the bed, patting the empty spot beside her with a reassuring smile. Rainbow Dash quickly crawled onto it.
"Tired?" the bookworm asked after taking note of the girl's dark bags and overall gloomy appearance.
"Exhausted," Rainbow corrected. She rubbed at her eyes and yawned. "Couldn't really sleep much last night."
"Gosh, love sure does things to you," Rarity said matter-of-factly, shaking her head. She turned her chair around to properly face her two friends. "So, what happened?" she asked, crossing her legs and putting a hand to her chin as she guessed, "Did you accidentally blurt out how incredibly infatuated you are by her?"
Rainbow Dash grimaced. "I'm not that sappy," she replied, slightly offended.
Rarity shrugged. "You never know, dear. As I said, love does things to you," she said with a wink followed by a soft giggle.
"So, you want to tell us what happened then?" Twilight asked, calmly steering the conversation back to the problem at hand.
Dash frowned. She rubbed at her face in frustration and let out a deep sigh. Did she really want to tell them? She had been so sure beforehand, but now she felt oddly wary.
"Is it that bad?" Twilight asked hesitantly.
"What's worse than accidentally blurting out your feelings?" Rarity questioned, rolling her eyes, and Rainbow Dash took it as a challenge.
                              "I kissed her."
                              ...
Silence. Complete serenity filled the room. Rainbow Dash kept her gaze down and her hands on her face, too nervous to check for reactions. They probably hadn't expected her to mess up that badly; Dash couldn't believe she was admitting to it at all.
The sound of a chair hitting the floor reached Rainbow Dash's ears. She looked up in surprise and found Rarity on the bed in front of her in mere milliseconds.
"You kissed her!?" she asked, eyes wide in disbelief. Rainbow Dash gulped loudly before nodding. The fashionista's mouth fell open. "Oh my goodness! Rainbow Dash, you kissed Applejack!" she exclaimed, amazed.
"Yes, I know," Rainbow hissed at her. "No need to rub it in."
"Wait. Just like that?" Twilight asked. Although she wasn't acting as... Explosively as Rarity, Rainbow could still tell the girl was stunned.
"Yeah," she replied, feeling ridiculous now that she was acknowledging it out loud.
"So?" Rarity hurriedly shifted closer to the girl on the bed. "How was it? Was it good?"
Rainbow Dash drew her legs closer to her chest. She glanced off to the side. "Good? Are you kidding me?" She scowled. "It was better than good. It was awesome," she muttered, as if disappointed with herself for thinking that way.
