As he placed his hand on the bed next to her side, he leaned in closer to her ear. She froze at the sudden closeness of him and could feel his breath skate across her neck as he whispered,

"Actually we've never..."

Y/N leaned back so she could look at him, a look of disbelief crossed over her face.

"What? Not once?"

Looking at him she couldn't believe that she wouldn't have seized every opportunity with both hands.

Loki stepped away from the bed,

"No, we haven't... So, I will wait outside", he smiled shyly at her.

Snapping Y/N out of her daze watching him leave the room the nurse spoke,

"Okay... Let's get this done"

The nurse tried to be as quick and painless as possible, but it still hurt like hell. Once she'd finished she called a pacing Loki back in. He desperately wanted to tell her who he really was, then he got an idea, he just needed the right moment.

Taking his usual position in the chair next to her bed, he ran his finger over his bottom lip as he went to speak,

"So umm... can I get you anything? Some water perhaps?"

Y/N hadn't taken her eyes off him as he had entered the room. She smiled as she answered him,

"That'd be great, thank you"

Loki stood and helped her to sit up. He then took the small plastic cup filled with water from the side cupboard and gently held it to her lips whilst supporting her lower back to allow her to take a few sips.

"Thanks"

"You're welcome"

Loki still had his hand placed on her back, he hadn't realised he had twisted some of her strands of hair around his fingers until he helped her lay back down and felt them slide from his touch. He ached to run his fingers through her hair, to brush it from her face and gaze upon her.

They talked for the next few hours, Loki telling half truths, but never truly lying to Y/N. She tried not to push the whole, you're lying to me thing, but that nagging doubt just wouldn't leave her head. A yawn slipped past her lips as she started to get tried. Loki smiled at her,

"You need to rest darling"

When ever he called her that in his strange accent, it did things that just one simple word shouldn't be doing, but Y/N was tired and just sleepily said "mmhmmm" as she nodded in response.

He leaned over and kissed her forehead before resting back into the chair and placing his hand on hers.

"I'll be here when you wake"

Y/N closed her eyes as Loki whispered,

"I will never leave you again"

As Y/N slept, she kept dreaming about a young boy who kept smiling at her. He then morphed into a younger looking, carefree Loki. He too was smiling at her and laughing with her... But this wasn't just a dream, this was a memory. It felt like a memory. The smile, the eyes. It was too real not to him.

Y/N woke with a jump and stared straight into the eyes of a watching Laufey sitting next to her.

Instant recognition rushed through her mind, it was him, she had no doubts. Sitting up slowly and not taking her eyes off his, she whispered,

"It's you isn't it?"

She wasn't angry, she wasn't sad, she just wanted confirmation from him.

"It is Lo..."

He cut in quietly,

"Don't say it!"

He looked away sheepishly and swallowed, taking a deep breath before turning back and answering her,

"I swear I was going to tell you, but I couldn't, not here, not with eyes everywhere"

Tears welled in her eyes as she asked quietly,

"Then where?"

"I did have a plan but..."

He moved closer to her as a stray tear escaped and ran down her cheek. He intoxicated her, confused her, drew her to him.

"Why do I feel things?... See things when I'm near you?" she asked him quietly.

He was so close now, she could feel his breath on her lips as he brushed her hair from her face. Something he'd been wanting to do since she woke. His fingers glided across her skin, wiping the single tear away and setting her nerve endings ablaze with something more than desire.

As his fingers moved across her, everywhere he touched, invisible sparks flew between them like static. His palm rested on her cheek with his thumb on her cheek bone, his long fingers wrapped around the fine hairs at the base of her hair line.

His eyes darted from her eyes to her lips and back again. Asking for permission as Loki leaned forward, closer still. He swallowed as instinct took over.

"Because we're meant to be together" he whispered before closing the final few millimetres as their lips touched and his hand moved to the nape of her neck, pulling her closer.

As Loki kissed Y/N, the embers that were buried deep within them both exploded into flames, igniting every memory, every feeling that Y/N had from a previous life.

Confirmation of it really being her ripped through Loki. She was back with him and his grip tightened, holding her closer to him never wanting to let her go again.

Everything rushed through her like waves crashing against the shore, one after the other, flooding her mind. Her breath caught in her throat and her eyes flew open. It was too much to handle and it frightened her enough to push Loki away, breaking the kiss.

Tears rolled down her face as she shook her head.

"I can't... It's too much... I..."

Y/N was panicking. Everything had changed in an instant. She couldn't have him there. She needed to process this. Her life now, it had all been a lie it seemed.

"I... I need you to leave Lo... Laufey"

She had corrected herself quickly, she didn't want Loki to get caught, not now, not now that she was starting to remember everything he was to her.

Loki shook his head,

"I'm not leaving you"

He looked at her like he was looking into her soul as he insisted, "not again".

It caused Y/N to turn away, she couldn't look at him, it hurt too much, bought back too many feelings she didn't yet understand. She needed this time.

"Please... I just, need some time... It's too much with you here."

More tears began to fall, she didn't want to hurt him, but with him there she felt crushed, overwhelmed with emotions she didn't know she had for him until he'd kissed her. He had killed people, done evil things, but yet now she had all this new information about him, it didn't make any sense. That wasn't him. He wasn't a killer before.

Loki didn't want to leave her, he couldn't just walk away, but he didn't want to cause her more pain by staying. He didn't stop looking at her as he was assessing his options, weighing up what she was asking against what he wanted, what he needed. He took a deep breath and looked at her. He had to do right by her this time. He couldn't fail her, and if by staying it would cause her more pain, he couldn't do it.

"Fine... I'll find you when you're ready"
