...................................................

Vidar stood outside of Loki's cell, watching as Loki kept pacing and calling out to Odin with ever growing desperation.

"You make the same mistakes I did Loki, even though he has already shown his true nature to you - I thought you would know better," Vidar spoke firmly to him.

"He will only ever do what serves his purpose," Vidar swallowed and looked Loki directly in the eyes.

"Y/N - she is trying to break your bond"

Vidar could feel it, he was the one that gave Y/N the gift of resurrection. Connecting to Y/N that way had allowed him to keep an eye on her from afar. He knew what she was doing and had decided to visit Loki to try and help.

Loki leaned forward, his usual arrogant facade covering up his true feelings as he spoke to Vidar.

"Vidar... Have you come to gloat?"

"You always assume everyone is against you Loki"

"And why wouldn't I? I cannot imagine that you would be pleased about your daughter and I," Loki sneered.

"You forget Loki that it was I that gave her the gift to return to you," Vidar shifted from foot to foot as he spoke.

"I know what it is to loose someone you love. I have twice already"

Loki inclined his head at him, listening intently as Vidar grew increasingly emotional and angry, remembering what he had lost.

"I have twice already - at the hands of Horvald, Grolf and Aslak - my wife - then my own father stood by and watched my only child succumb to her sorrow".

"What will you do now then?" Loki asked.
He started walking around his cell. He was still in slight shock that it sounded as though Vidar was willingly to help him. "I am stuck in this place".

"Thor - I will convince him to speak to father to agree your release... I will deal with Y/N"

Loki stopped walking and turned to look at him, raising his brow.

"And what makes you think Thor would do that?"

"The Midgardian's - with Thanos coming they will need all the help they can get... Including from you and Y/N"

Loki thought quickly about it. Thor did care greatly for earth's people and it was true with Thanos coming, all the realms would need to band together to defeat Thanos. He was hell bent on conquering the world's. Loki knew his strength, his plans, having been a tool for Thanos to use. He knew Vidar was right.

His thoughts turned to Y/N. As she had tried to break their bond, their connection had faded, it was still there, but nowhere near as strong as before.

"How is she?" Loki asked hesitantly, "I can barely feel her now"

"She cannot fully break the bond by herself, it must be mutual for it to break fully"

Loki breathed a sigh of relief.

"I will speak to Thor and then find Y/N. Do not give up hope Loki"

...............

Vidar went to speak to Thor, he needed him to speak to their father. Afterall, Thor was Odin's favourite son and had more sway with him than any of his other children.

"Brother, please listen - you and your friends will need Loki and Y/N in the war to come," Vidar pleaded with him.

"And what makes you believe that? Loki could never be trusted," Thor turned to look at Vidar. "I thought the world of Loki, but he has done nothing but betray my trust time and time again, and now he will not tell my why he breaks my niece's heart".

Thor loved Loki and to see him broken in that cell had deeply affected Thor. He couldn't understand why Loki had done what he had to Y/N. After she had died before, Loki completely changed for the worse. Then she was back and even though Thor hadn't spent much time with Loki, he felt that he had gotten his old brother back when he saw Loki with Y/N on Midgard. It made no sense to Thor why Loki would push the one person that made him happy away.

"Perhaps you should speak to our father about that..." Vidar spoke with increasing passion, "it is in Loki's nature to lie... Ask yourself Thor, should it be in our fathers as well - to manipulate his own children to serve his purpose - Odin has used us more than you realize," he spat. "It is about time you learnt that".

................

Thor went to see Odin. He needed to know if their father had indeed betrayed Loki's trust again and why he would do such a thing. He may not have known Vidar very well, but he felt he could trust him.

"Father?... Why is Loki pushing Y/N away?"

Thor trailed after his father as Odin walked the halls of the palace.

"That is not your concern," Odin kept walking away from him as Thor watched him.

"Father..."

"Thor..." Odin continued walking away, not even turning around.

"You should be getting prepared for Thanos, not worrying yourself about Loki's... Relationships".

"Father!" Thor voice echoed through the hall as he raised his voice causing Odin to stop.

"Is it true what Vidar says... That you have used Loki's love for Y/N to push them apart? Why would you do that?"

Odin turned around, his voice abrupt.

"You want to know why I wouldn't want my adoptive son to have relations with my granddaughter... I would have thought that obvious". Odin snarled, "Y/N should marry someone of advantage to the kingdom - not Loki".

"So you would deny them both happiness?"

Odin snapped and shouted back at Thor,

"What does happiness have to do with marriage?" He huffed, "Loki will serve his time for his crimes," taking a deep breath he continued his rant. "Y/N - she will marry... Who I deem worthy - that is the end of this discussion!"

Thor shook his head,

"Father... Their bond bought Y/N back, it restored her," Thor pleaded.

"Ha!" Odin jeered, "it was Vidar's ridiculous notions of love that did that - why do you think he is not fit to take my place when I'm gone"

Odin turned and walked away, leaving Thor stunned at what his father had said.
Thor made his choice there and then. He was going to break Loki out. To hell with father.
