Chapter

One

Gayles was at home, as usual, enjoying her music and reading her novel when she received a text. Hello dearest, after viewing refused to reply and continued her work.

While at the lab also, Vin lost in his thoughts wondering why his friend wasn't replying his messages. Why is she not answering? She must have been upset. But what did I do wrong? Oh God! What a friend I have... never mind I am off to her place. He then drove off in search of his bestie.

These friends have the habit of picking a fight with each other and before realization, they were back to normal, nobody got between them. They had similar qualities and shared together each other's dreams. Their ability to know what was on each other's mind was what built their friendship.

Gayles was upset with Vin because he pulled her legs on an issue she had buried and didn't want to hear of. Vin, on the other hand, was trying all he could to resolve it. After what seemed like ages, he arrived at her house. Gayles heard the bell ring, she knew very well who the visitor was and didn't even bother to answer. With persistence, he got her to open the gate. "Hi, may I come in?" he asked but she clammed on him. "Fine if you don't wish to talk, no worries I am cool. Are you alone?" She led him into the hall, gave him all the beautiful treatment one could ever phosphoresce even though she did not let out a word.

He felt awkward sitting with nobody talking. He became bored as time went on still with the silence so he found his way into the lab of Gayles, a computer lab to be precise; where she did all her designs and wrote her novels. She made a follow up into the lab but was not so fast because Vin had already gone through her projects and had conceptualized what was on her mind.

"Well, I'm happy to acknowledge that your new project is feasible and will take you up higher, the motive behind is great", he said to her, seeing clearly how mad she was at him.

This time Gayles was flabbergasted so she blinked at him owlishly and asked, "how sure are you about that?"

"We can be a cent sure, the possibility of your making it is higher than the second heavens even", Vin answered. Before long she was screaming great shouts of joy. He sat there looking at his friend. As the imagination of her dreams coming true, Gayles embraced Vin warmly. The two of them didn't even know how; they were back together. "Okay, so what's up for today?" Vin asked.

"Actually..." Gayles said slowly, "I have an idea. Why don't we go party since there is nothing left to do? That reminds me, today is a friend's birthday we can go there or you have a schedule?"

"Not really and I just want to spend time with you now that we are back again", he answered.

"Alright then, let me get dressed and let's go party!" she exclaimed.

"Wait please, I have something to tell you", he said holding on to her arm. "Dearie, I'm very sorry if I hurt you, I needed not to have brought up that issue ..."

Before he could finish, Gayles' finger was on his lips. "We are friends, we can tease each other and if even it's offensive, that is how come there is an apology. It was I that bungled. I shouldn't have reacted the way I did. I am so sorry it will never happen ever", she said holding her ears.

"Hey, come on no need for that, we are still friends", Vin hugged her.

She extricated herself, "Okay so let me clad into something then we go".

He winked at her, "Alright".

She came back immaculate in a sequinned white designer shirt tucked in neatly in a blue jeans and an over coat on it with a blue kick matching the outfit. "Here I am, sorry for keeping you waiting. Are you ready?" Gayles asked.

"I know you ladies keep long in dressing and since its consequential is fantastically outstanding I have no problem. I mean you look splendid in the outfit. What a dish!" he remarked.

"Thanks for the compliment", she said blushing.

They walked hand in hand regally to the car and sat in it. The car set off. They headed towards the house of Rennie (Gayles' friend). Upon reaching the place, Vin held her hand as she stepped out of the car. The sound of music was so loud that it could be heard from afar. "Umm... it seems your friend is a party animal", Vin said.

"Not only a party animal, she is so crazy", whispered Gayles "Come, let's go in".

"Gayles! What a delight to see you". Rennie was resplendent in a white and pink dressing - gown like a glamourous artiste. "You never said you were coming and who is this bewitching guy?" she said with a half smile playing on her lips.

"Umm... he is a friend", she answered kind of shy. "Vin, meet Rennie one of my best friends".

"Nice meeting you", he lengthened his hand towards her.

"Nice meeting you also", extending her hands too to clasp his. "Your palm is as soft as wool, I love guys with such palms. Oh come in", Rennie welcomed them.

"Nice apartment", Vin said as he got in, where over powering romantic music was pouring out of Rennie's extremely large speakers.

"Please be seated", Rennie said offering them seats. She went in and returned with a bottle of wine. "Okay guys so it's my birthday let us wine and dine!" she exclaimed.

She then dispensed the wine a glass full for each. "Gayles, who did you say this babe magnet was?" she asked with a leer and sipped her glass of wine.

"He is a friend", Gayles answered.

"What! A mere friend? I have known you for ages so why don't I know him if he was a friend? You must be kidding", she quipped.

"Hey stop it. I know where you are heading to", Gayles said kind of nervous. "Listen, he is the one I told you helped me out when my car broke down and we've been good friends since then".

"Ok, Ok I get the picture now. But you should have at least introduced him earlier", Rennie whispered, "He's a real cutie. Never mind, so can he be my friend too?"

"Sure, why not? Didn't Stellie show up for the party", Gayles asked looking round.

Stellie was also a friend.

"No, she didn't", Rennie answered in disappointment.

"It is alright if she didn't make it, chill, we are here for you", Gayles cheered her up. "So then a toast to our new friend here". They chinked glasses and drank to each other's health.

Vin asked, "do you want to dance?" The question was not to Rennie though but she happily said yes. And Vin had no choice than to dance with her. Gayles was busy with her phone, she didn't even realize they were dancing.

While Rennie was dancing with Vin, she saw that her friend wasn't dancing. She signalled a friend of hers to ask Gayles for a dance. The friends had sign languages they used in communicating. Gayles looked up at Rennie when the guy approached her and Rennie winked at her as a sign to tell her to accept it. Gayles stopped what she was doing and danced with Rennie's friend.

They danced all evening.
