A few weeks later;
School had re - opened needing Gayles and her friends return to school. Their departing was a big blow on them. Gayles was in the same school with Rennie and Stellie, her best friends but Vin was afar being in the University of Cape Coast in Cape Coast and they being in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi. The friends were hurt; Gayles and Vin. They made up minds on meeting.
"I suggest we meet in my house", Vin mooted.
"Well... that won't be bad. Hope your girlfriend won't get inflammed?" Gayles asked teasingly.
"When did I tell you I have a girl or do you intend to be one?" he asked.
"I did not say that... That is out of the question", she exclaimed.
He said laughing, "I was only kidding, be careful you don't explode".
"Hey it is not amusing", she remarked.
"I did not say it was", he quipped. Come rain or shine, please come over", he added.
"I will", she said and hanged up.
Just after she put down the phone, she heard her bell ring.
"Hey Stellie! It's a surprise seeing you, you didn't let me know you were coming", Gayles said, following in time when she opened the gate.
"Do I need to alert the entire world when visiting my own bestie?" she questioned.
"Oh friend but I never said that". "I'm the lucky one here, how eager I have looked forward to seeing you", Gayles said, firmly persuading her friend.
"Nevertheless I'm still here. Are you not going to welcome me in or is there someone in there I am not to see?" she asked smiling - a wily little smile.
"Please come in", Gayles welcomed her.
Gayles lead her into the house. Stellie took her seat. "Okay so where is our prince charming?" saying this, she, Stellie went searching the house. "Where is he hiding, Gayles?"
"Oh God! I'm not concealing anybody Drama Queen", Gayles said, sitting her friend down.
"Rennie told me that you were at her place with a guy and he is your ..."
"Please stop it, he is just a friend like you all, I can't believe you are making a deal out of this", Gayles skated.
"You don't have to be mad, I'm sorry", Stellie apologized.
"Vin is my friend but it seems nobody wants to understand. Everybody thinks he is my boyfriend which is not true", Gayles complained.
"Hey girl, I said I'm sorry no need getting upset, I understand. Anyway, my throat is dry and I need a juice to cool down", Stellie said trying to cheer her up. "Let me attend to myself if you are not in the mood", she said approaching the refrigerator. She returned with two glasses of juice, one for Gayles and herself. "Chillax, baby girl. Will you like to tell me about your new friend?" she curiously asked.
"If only you want to know, why not?" Gayles replied gloomily.
"Tell me then. What's he like?" she whimpered to her.
"He is Vin from UCC. He is a dashing young man, nice by nature and lowly. He is very smart and brilliant. He has this cute smile which makes him look more handsome. I bet he's really dreamy", Gayles snapped. "Why that face?"
"It is like you know so much about this guy and you have been friends for long", Stellie remarked.
"You asked me to describe him and that was what I was doing so what is it again?" Gayles asked kind of upset.
"I can't wait to see him! Tell me when we will pay him a visit", Stellie sighed.
"He wanted to see me before we left to school so ..."
Stellie interrupted, "When is that? Can I go?"
"Yes you can. It's tonight", Gayles answered.
"Tonight?" she chorused. "Talking of school, school has resumed and we are still here so when do you suggest we go?" she asked Gayles.
"We will leave tomorrow", she said. Gayles picked up a book and glanced through, when she thought of what was going to happen when she met with Vin, she had this dazzling smile on her face. Stellie on the other hand had switched on the television, sat down on the comfy couch and munched her potato chips and pop corn. As she was having fun, she took a look at Gayles and noticed she was smiling with nothing humorous.
"Baby girl, what is on your mind?" she called. Gayles did not hear her and was still in the dream world. Stellie then went closer and realized her mind was away. She tapped her on the shoulder.
"Oh you again", she looked abstracted.
"What in the world were you thinking of, girl?" Stellie asked.
"Nothing", she said back.
"Don't say it's nothing, I saw that face. Gayles, I know you won't like to hear this but I don't mind telling you. You are smitten with love. Could it be the new guy?" Stellie said not mince her words.
"Me? In love?" Gayles asked incredulously.
"Yes dearest, you are but you only don't want to admit it. See girl, it is a natural law and you cannot cheat nature", she added. Gayles held her tongue so she continued. "This feeling is normal; do not take it hard on yourself. Admit it and let's find a way to tell him".
Gayles looked closely at her friend and shook her head. "I'm not in love, stop talking nonsense".
Stellie packed up and was ready to leave. "Alright, you can continue deceiving yourself. Call me when you are ready to leave to his place", Stellie said and picked up her bag. When she was about to leave, she threw a pillow at Gayles. "Don't think too much about him perhaps he feels the same way as you. Bye Duck!" she teased.
"You're crazy", Gayles said after her.
Immediately Stellie left, Gayles went into her room. Gayles' bedroom was a very big one. When she entered the room, the first thing she did was to set her clock radio which was on her bedside table near her lamp to 6pm; that was the time she and Vin agreed on meeting. She climbed into her double bed and pulled the duvet over her. She forced herself to sleep.
In her sleep she had a dream. She saw herself and Vin in a garden; both sitting on the lawn, with herbaceous borders. They were admiring nature then all of a sudden Vin asked Gayles, "have you been in love before?" Gayles turned slowly from the water feature to look at Vin's face. Then she burst out laughing.
"Don't tell me you're in love. Omigosh! Vin is in love", she screamed. "Hey wait! First, tell me who you are in love with". He fell flat on his back, looking at the skies and didn't answer her question. "Vin, I am talking to you", she said. "Alright, I am leaving since you don't want to answer me''. When she was about standing up, Vin pulled her to himself and she fell directly on him on the lawn.
"Are you sure you want to know who I am in love with?" he asked, looking straight into her eyes.
Gayles looked away, feeling nervous. "Vin, what are you doing?"
Vin rolled over unto her. "Beaut, I can't hide this anymore. I've never felt this way for anybody except you. I knew I was in trouble the first time I saw you smile. I love you in my mind where my thoughts reside, in my heart where my emotions live, and in my soul where my dreams are born. Gayles, it's you I love", he poured his heart out.
"Shut up Vin! You're mad", Gayles rebuked. She pushed him off herself and stood up. Before she made an attempt to run, Vin got hold of her. "Vin, stop it already".
"Look into my eyes. Tell me you don't love me and I will leave you alone", he said. She couldn't say a word anymore. Vin drew her closer to himself and before realization they were snogging.
Gayles woke up and realized it was a dream. She was perspiring buckets although her air conditioning was on. When she turned to look at the time, it was past 6pm. "oh my God! I'm late", she exclaimed. She flung back the duvet and got out of bed. She hurriedly went into the ensuite to take her bath. Minutes later, she came out to get dressed. She opened her built in wardrobe and searched but she didn't find any dress of her choice. She moved from the wardrobe and crossed to the chest of drawers. She opened the drawers till she found something appropriate to wear.
