Chapter
Five

The KNUST is the largest university in the Kumasi metropolis and was originally established as Kumasi college of technology. The Independence Hall of the university is the biggest hall, the people in the hall are popularly known as Spartans. That is the hall in which the three allies resided in school. Gayles went out of the room after they had finished unpacking, immediately she left Rennie confronted Stellie. "What is wrong with you?", outburst Rennie.
"l should be asking you the same question", said Stellie.
"It is not volitional. I have fallen for him", Rennie subterfuge.
Stellie rebuked, "shut up, what bunk! You must be mad. It would have been better if you could have retracted those words". Stellie glimpsed at her in despise and reminded her of the accident and how she was saved. She took her through all the good times they had together and begged her not to plunder Gayles of her ecstasy. Rennie paid no heed to her and was determined to have Vin. Their faces turned gloomy when Gayles entered the room. With the look on their faces, she was conscious of they having an argument. She withdrew from saying anything to them and hoped they would solve their problem sooner.
Stellie made an endeavour to spit everything to Gayles but she stifled her from explaining things to her. She took what she came for and left again. Stellie became helpless since there was not a probability she can make Gayles aware of the problem at hand, Gayles was not ready to listen to anything she had to say. She sat on the bed with her hands crossed, thinking about her dear friend.
Rennie taunted, "l am so sorry for the disappointment but l warned you. She will not listen to you, it is best we make it a privy between us".
"l won't do that", said Stellie.
"Why are you trying to be my destiny killer? You are being partial! You wish the best for her than l. We are friends, so why can't you wish same for me than being at loggerheads?", cried Rennie.
"That is not true. l rather straighten you when you are wrong", Stellie corrected.
Rennie asked, "and what is my fault in this?"
"You are arrogating to yourself the love of your very own friend and that is wrong", Stellie advocated.
"l am not stealing him. She gave me the permit", announced Rennie.
Stellie elucidated, "that was because she had no idea of what you were of and even if she did you were hurt at that time that perhaps made her say that".
"But she can't just make decision out of pity, it's my heart we talking about here", said Rennie.
Rennie sat on the bed near her. Stellie looked at how stressed Rennie was and saw that she was truly in love. "Hmm... this is getting out of hand", exclaimed Stellie. "Why don't you speak with her and clear up the mess".
"That will not be needed, l have made up my mind", said Rennie.
"What do you plan on?", Stellie asked.
"Never mind!", said Rennie as she walked out of the room.
Stellie did not believe her ears and sang Rennie's words out, "l have made up my mind". She got scared of what was to happen between both girls. Rennie would go to any extent to get what she wanted and Gayles is so naive. Before long, Gayles entered the room and saw her weeping as if she had lost a loved one. She went over to her and solaced her.
   "What went wrong?", she asked.
"Everything", cried Stellie. "Meaning?", asked Gayles, mixed up.
She looked up at Gayles and asked, "Tell me if you love Vin”.
"Why such a question?", she asked again.
"Do not question me as my answer, it's a simple question just answer it", Stellie urged.
"l already told you l do not know", said Gayles.
Stellie reproached, "you are too obstinate. How many years will it take you to rectify that?"
Gayles said back, "Vin needn't my love, just amity and that is what l will offer. l can't force myself on him".
Stellie stared at her in amazement. "If you continue this way, you will lose Vin. You better wake up", she counseled. As she heard this, her stomach turned somersault. It kept on echoing in her ears and sounded, her ancestors were cautioning her. She later complained of headache and was helped  by her friend to bed. Gayles was fast asleep when Rennie returned. "l will be leaving to another institution tomorrow", Stellie said to Rennie. Rennie stared at her and pretended not to have heard her. "It’s you l am talking to, dear friend", Stellie called.
"Does she know about this?", she asked.
   "Not yet", answered Stellie.
"Why are you distancing yourself?", Rennie questioned.
"l cannot stand to see my friends fight each other. It is sad l can't help you", Stellie expressed. Tears formed in Rennie's eyes, listening to her friend pour her heart out. "l know you will someday be in need of my advice. l will open my arms warmly for you and count on me to share your problems with", she guaranteed. "You two will be together, please do not take undue advantage of her love for you. Do not ail her more trouble than you have caused. Be each other's keeper. Gayles is a very good friend to be with. Make your opportunity useful now you have her. l know she will sacrifice her love for Vin so you would have him to make you happy. l hope you someday realize he was not meant for you". Rennie was in no mood to listen to her appraisals of Gayles but was sad about her leaving. Her thoughts swiftly changed to how easy it would be the minute Stellie left the college, Gayles would fain do as she wish at the least pretense she did, making it much easier for her to have the man she dreamt of.
Stellie gave Gayles an aspirin after she had woken up from bed. She felt the pain inside her head like she had banged her head on a wall. She was relieved of the pain after she had taken the drug. A while after, Rennie announced the shuffle of Stellie. "Tell me it is not true", demanded Gayles.
"It is very true", confirmed Stellie.
   "Why so?", asked Gayles.
"l have some important work l need to do over there", lied Stellie convincingly.
Gayles accepted the fact with so much of pain. "lf you say so then l have nothing to say". They helped her get ready for her leave. It was a sad moment for them, they spent their last meeting without chaos and were very happy. After sometime, she departed from them and left to her new school. Rennie overcame the guilt that engrossed her about her friend's leaving. She hatched a plan to deliberately bring to light the feeling she has for Vin to Gayles. She was battling with her mind when she was interrupted by a call from Ram, they had a long talk and finally they ended the chat as she had long wished before. Before Rennie could take further actions she had to eliminate Ram. That seemed to be impossible.
If she told Gayles about her affections then Stellie will get to know of it and will avenge Gayles' pain, unmasking her to Ram. That will be detrimental, thereby she strategized on something else. Rennie changed her room to stay out of watch, she wanted to part with Gayles to militate against tasting like a fish and deter Gayles from ever finding out.
Gayles was sad due to the lost of her friends and was lonely afterwards. Two other ladies were assigned part of the room where her friends used to occupy. Ana was one of them, she befriended her at first sight. Ana was a God fearing woman and most often shared the Word of God with others, with Gayles not an exception. Gayles grew fond of her and shared her experiences in life with her, they both discussed issues that bothered them and took comfort from each other. Though Gayles had someone she could confide in but the gap left in her heart by her friends was not filled.
She loved her friends dearly  and losing them was out of the question. Ray invited Gayles out for lunch and she accepted, to keep herself busy from so much of stress.
Soon, Gayles was out with Ray. Just after they had left, Stellie visited. She was warmly welcomed by Ana and was told her friend had gone out. Stellie decided to wait on her, she was astonished when she got to know about Rennie's departure. As she sat on Gayles' bed waiting, she saw her diary lying on the bed. She took the book with ease. She entered the password and flipped through pages intently, not missing a word, to her least expectation she found nothing new to what she already know about her friend. She closed the diary and returned it to it's position. She didn't quit her search and furthered to obtain some information from her laptop, she strongly believed there was much higher possibility. Before she could have reached out for it Gayles was back, she was so happy to see her friend again after a long period of correspondence. She run to hug her so tight that there was no space for air to get through. It took years before the tie binding them tore. "What a delight to see you!", exclaimed Gayles.
"You're looking much more beautiful", Stellie commented.
"Spare me that", she said sitting down.
"l heard Rennie also left. Did she tell you her reasons?", asked Stellie.
Gayles replied, "she only told me it was for a good purpose".
"Good purpose? What should that mean?", Stellie asked herself.
"l hope it ends well with her", said Gayles.
   Stellie said, "hmm... Very supercilious".
"She is still your friend", Gayles reminded.
“It is the truth about her, should l hide it because she is my friend?", Stellie asked.
"Let's leave that behind, tell me about your new school", requested Gayles. Stellie narrated all that had happened during her stay in the school and mentioned some friends she had found. Gayles introduced Ana to her when she entered the room. Stellie also liked her at that instant and made friends with her as well. Ana shared with them the word of God as insisted by Gayles. Stellie was impressed and advised she married a man of God. They laughed at the idea but she insisted they thought it over. Ana and Gayles looked at her in surprise, how she had taken the entire thing so serious.
"It will seem not to be logic but if you marry a man of God, it makes less difficult the work. Your husband is in it, he will understand you and will not be snaky when you less attend to him", she explained.
Gayles added, "you are making sense, some men are very jealous so you should have someone that will appreciate your talents and not to hinder you".
"I do not think of marriage now, perhaps the ALMIGHTY will provide for me a suitable match", said Ana.
"We are thinking through it and l can picture you with that handsome man of God at your wedding. Aww... It is so lovely”, Stellie said imagining things.
"Hey madam! You better wake up from your dream world", Gayles said pinching Stellie.
Stellie screamed, "Ochs... It really hurt".
"That was your reward for your silly predictions", teased Gayles.
"You know my prognosis can turn theories. l don't think you will like me foretell your future", said Stellie.
"If you can then do tell her she needs to know. Right?", Ana turned to ask Gayles.
Gayles said, "do not take her words to be serious, assume her to be a flibbertigibbet".
"l want to know, tell us please", Ana pleaded.
"She will not like to hear, let us forget it", Stellie tried disregarding the matter.
"If you do not want to share it with me, l have no problem with that", said Ana regretting to have thrust her nose into the affairs of others.
"Well, this is all we have time for today, but we'll meet again. l will take my leave now, whenever you come across Rennie extend my greetings", said Stellie.
She took leave of them and drove off to her school. The girls prepared to leave for class. Lecture looked boring to Gayles as a result lost concentration. After the class had ended she got hold of Rennie and informed her about Stellie's visit but Rennie was so busy that she didn't let her finish before she walked out on her. There was a sharp pain felt by Gayles after what her friend did.
    Ray texted Gayles:
"I need you at the party tonight". he wrote.
   "l can't make it there"
   "Oh why can't you?"
   "Ray, l will be busy"
"Some minutes please and l will be performing. Please come"
"l am sorry but no", she ended.
