Due to the bulletproof vest she wore, the bullet couldn't penetrate through her. Gayles ensconced herself in Vin's arms. Vin was grieving, he was watching her struggle with life and death. "You can't die now. Dearest, remember you promised to die with me. Please fight for your life at least for my sake. Please!", he said to her lovingly.

"I might not survive this bullet. I want to know who your next love will be if I do not make it", she stammered jovially.

"Don't say that. I will not marry if you leave this earth. For you, I will forever be a lovelorn and I might end up lovesick", he said as he ordered the police to hurry and call an ambulance.

"You never said you loved me this much. Chillax Babe, I don't need an ambulance, I am perfectly fine", she laughed.

"What? How could you play with my heart in such a manner?", he asked, got up and helped her too.

"I just wanted to test your love. Anyways, you looked cute with that face. Except that I don't believe you were going to do all what you said for me", she remonstrated.

"You aren't yet attuned to my love, are you?", Vin asked looking disappointed.

Gayles was mute for sometime then she remembered her friend, "Wait a sec. Let me contact Stellie".

"Is she in hot water? Your face is taut all of a sudden", Vin said as he checked if she was truly fit.

Stellie gave her directions to the hospital Rennie had been admitted in when she called. Gayles rushed with Vin to the hospital. They saw Stellie standing near the door of the operating theatre. They both went to her, "Was it serious that she needed an operation?" they asked.

"I hope she survives. There was a better life ahead of her", Stellie grieved.

"She will definitely survive. But first can any of you tell me what all this is about?", Vin demanded.

The two friends looked at each other's face. Stellie urged Gayles to explain things to her beloved, he might understand it better from her. Gayles had to narrate everything she knew to him. She even told him, Rennie had strong attraction for him. Vin then understood the reason for the hug, he was filled with regret acceding Rennie's request. He had done it with a clear intention but it had attributed to a matter of life and death.

Vin apologized to Gayles for he not being the first to have informed her about the lunch with her friend. As to be expected, Gayles did not consider it any great ordeal.

The doctor came out of the operation theatre not cheerful. They were all expecting a sad news because of his facial appearance but then he said, "She survived!".

"Wow!", they exclaimed, "shall we go to see her?".

"Not now, she needs rest. But if you want to see her then it is only him that should go", he advised.

"Because...", Vin began a sentence.

"She elocuted your name through out. Are you not Vin?", the doctor asked.

"I am but...", he said but Gayles interjected.

"Please, go and see her".

He caressed her cheeks gently with his fingers, "I will for you, my love". She nodded in agreement, kissed him on both cheeks and he left to Rennie's room.

"His passion for you has made him blind to anything else", Stellie teased.

"I don't know what to think even", Gayles expressed with a look of horror.
