Fourteen

   Rennie took the advice of Stellie and began to make a search on Ram. She wanted to rectify her mistakes. She contacted the friends of Ram and interrogated them. She found some clues which she would used to discover the truth about his boyfriend. Some clues lead her to one of Ram's counterpart. She went on a surprised visit, Jerome, Ray's friend had long fancied Rennie so when she visited him, he did not hesitate to let her in. After the welcome address, she requested for a drink and when she was asked the type she wanted, she said she wanted a vodka. Jerome brought it for themselves. Rennie engaged in a conversation with Jerome. He was happily talking when Rennie asked, "Do you think I made the right choice going out with Ram?".
   Jerome was quiet for sometime and continued, "If I tell you the truth, what difference will it make?".
   "Difference? I might leave him and find someone else", she said with a sweetly smile.
   "Are you sure?", he asked with a wink.
   "A cent sure!", she said temptingly.
   Jerome began to tell her what she longed wished to hear, "You don't deserve such a person. He doesn't even appreciate you, all he does is to shower you with his dirty money. You need somebody who would care for you like...", he paused.
   Nothing he said sounded good to her than the words "dirty money". She was happy Jerome was saying exactly the words she wanted him to say but it would be difficult for him to just spill out the meaning of those words he had said to her just like that so Rennie asked him to go for another bottle and he did. When he brought the bottle, Rennie took it from him and served. She filled his glass full and filled her's with water. She managed to do this because Jerome was busy with his phone.
   "Do you think I will have someone more powerful than Ram?", she asked again.
   "Of course yes! I will be there for you", he answered in sheer delight.
   "Someone like...", she stopped for him to continue.
   "Like myself. I have secretly admired you the minute I set my eyes on you. You are very pretty, I must admit", he continued.
   "Thank you", she said. When she saw he was completely drunk and would be ready to say anything she asked, "I was suspecting he is knave. Don't you think he is too rich? Do you know the source of his money?”
   Jerome sat straight in the sofa and called Rennie to come closer, then he whispered, "Your guy is a druggie, he is a drug dealer".
   "What are you saying? This is hard for me to be believe", she grimaced.
   "Here is a picture of the drugs in his warehouse", he said, showing her a picture on his phone. She asked of the location and how she could secretly go there to see it for herself. Jerome told her everything without realizing. She was done with her mission. She put some tablets in his drink - the tablets were to suspend his memory until she was done with Ram. She waited for him to sleep and absconded. Rennie contacted Stellie to join her at a junction. When she met with Stellie, she told her everything she had learnt. They together went to the warehouse to be sure. The moment they reached the building, they became uncertain whether it was really drugs that had been kept there - The structure of the building was very attractive. Seeing is believing, they found their way in to check it out.
   Not all that glitters was indeed gold, the building was beautiful from the outside but the inside was horrible. It was dusty and there were thick cobwebs hung in the dusty corners of the building. The place smelled of drugs, they found it difficult to breath.
   Stellie took pictures of the place including the drugs and everything in it as evidence they could use in the future. They also took some sample of the drugs for verification. When they were done with their search, they cleared any evidence that could prove their presence.
   They sent the samples to the laboratory for analysis. The results that came was a deadly one. The drugs were harmful! "So what are you going to do now?", Stellie asked, feeling sympathetic towards her friend.
   "I will make sure he rots in prison", she mewled .
   Stellie threw an arm around her, "are you sure, this is what you want?".
   "I have made a lot of mistakes in life, I just want to correct them. It was all my fault, I should have known him well. I was blind back then but now Vin's love has opened my eyes", she cried.
   "Did you truly love Vin?", Stellie asked.
   Rennie smiled her answer. "I still do love him".
   "I wasn't brave enough to see the good side of you. I always judged you, will you forgive me sweetheart?", asked Stellie.
   "Why should I?", she asked in check.
   "Okay so tell me the price", said Stellie.
   Rennie pretended to be thinking of what she should ask as her price but the fact was, she had already thought of it before she asked. "Okay so why don't you introduce your hearty", she said pulling her tongue out.
   "Ha-ha. I sure will do that", assured Stellie.
   "That's more like it!", Rennie burst out. They left the laboratory to their various schools. Rennie was driving whence she had gone to the school when she saw Vin's car coming her direction, he recognized her car and pulled a halt. Rennie stepped down and headed towards Vin's car. Vin got off his car when she was near. She hugged him tightly when he was close but he pulled himself away. "Rennie, right?", he recollected.
   "Y-e-a-h", she stammered looking at how handsome he looked when the shine shone on his face.
   "I am sorry, it was involuntary", she sighed wistfully.
   "It is no problem", he said.
   Rennie was hurt at his words but was glad he was happy with Gayles.
   She wiped the tiny droplets of tears in her eye. "Yes, if you are really happy with her then I am too", she said.
   Vin didn't understand what she meant but he didn't ask about it. Rennie didn't want to let him go, she might not have the chance of seeing him again or she might see him but with Gayles. She politely asked him to sit with her for pub lunch, Vin did not refuse her because she was Gayles' friend and didn't want to look bad in her eyes. She might complain about him to Gayles making her lose interest in him, Vin wasn't ready to be faulty in front of her queenie's friends. He had heard about a pub on that road but he hadn't being there so he thought they could have the lunch there so he drove past Rennie to that direction as she followed.
   On arrival, they were treated specially. Rennie sat next to Vin at a table, they were served with chocolate sponge sandwich and limeade. Rennie couldn't stop staring a her friend's boyfriend, she was so focused on watching him, like a movie.
   Vin didn't realize it because he was looking at those dancing with disgust, he had been hearing people say there were very good dancers at that place but he didn't imagine they were just dancing courtesans. They began eating after he was done with a call, he felt uncomfortable sitting alone with her in such a place. It took a lot of time before they finished their food, Vin paid for the bill so they could leave.
   Ram branched to the pub to have some drink after his return from the ware house. The minute he entered, the first people who caught his eyes were the dancers. He was pulled by his favourite popular courtesan; Ram was always at the pub whenever he returned from visiting his ware house so he was familiar with the people there. He was enjoying his dance with the dancer until he saw someone like Rennie going out of the pub with an unknown man. He gave a sign to one of his followers to follow them out. The follower took shots of them and brought it back to him. As soon as he got hold of the pictures he flew into a rage. He flounced out of the pub in anger, his friends went after him.
   He had double minds on what to do, he tried very hard to cudgel his brain to think of what he should do. He didn't want to do anything stupid that the chickens would come home to roost. Since he was erratic on what to do, he hurried to Jerome's place, it was the nearest place he could go to let off steam. Jerome was still asleep when he got there. He left his place also back to the pub, he thought it wise to have fun so that he would think of what do later.
   Ram got drunk to the fullest. He didn't even know how he got to his house. He woke up with his head aching, it took a while before he remembered the reason for his drunkenness. He dialed Rennie's number and waited for her to answer. Rennie was very happy she had got a chance to sit with Vin alone for lunch. She did not want to exchange the happiness she had got with Ram's cock and bull stories so she did not answer the call. His anger also arose the number of times he dialed her number and she was not picking up. Ram dialed the number until his fingers were hurting. He couldn't stop himself from picturing her with the man he saw romancing. To Ram, his reason for Rennie not picking up his call was because she was busily cheating on him with another guy.
   The instant Vin arrived at his school and entered his room he dialed Gayles. She answered the call when she saw it was Vin's number.
   “Hi there!” she said.
   “Hi”, he said back.
   “Were you missing me so soon?” she joked.
   “Very much, my love”, he answered.
  “How sweet?” she said.
   “So sweet like you are”, said Vin.
   “Hey! let's end it there. So tell me why you called”, she said, feeling loved.
   “Why? Can't I call just to hear your soft mellifluous voice?” he asked.
   “Is that why you called?” She asked him.
   Vin hesitated to tell her the main reason for his call, “Yes, do you have a problem with that?”
   She pulled a halt, “Mr. Romance, I sure do not have a problem with it but I am driving. You do know it is abominable to be making calls whilst driving right? Unless, you want to marry me lifeless”, she said.
   “Hey girl! You dare not say such things. I will die with you in love”, he stated.
   “I am sorry”, she apologized.
   “You better be”, he said.
   Vin asked her to pull a halt which she had already done,  “I wanted to tell you that I ...”
   She interrupted, “you love me right? Please time is not on my side I have to get to my destination on the required time. Let me finish with it and I promise we will spend all the time chatting, okay?” she said and started the engine of the car.
   “My queen, that was not what I meant to say. It is just that...”
   She interrupted him again, “I love you more. You will hear from me at midnight. Bye!"
   His love grew more whenever she behaved like that. She was the loveliest he had encountered. Always ready for work and she did it with diligence, she did no procrastinations. And her works were just perfect and the ultimate. He didn't mind waiting for her to finish her responsibilities before they could chat, if she said midnight then it was no problem for him at all. He placed his phone on the bed and relaxed.
   Ram was in a terrible fluster, he had had enough, he saw his girl with another guy in a pub and now he was contacting her too, she doesn't answer his phone calls. He freshened up quickly and got ready to pay her a surprise visit in her school. Ram drove very fast to the school, it was by grace he didn't get an accident on his way. He made enquiries of Rennie from a friend of his in the school, Mariam. Mariam sent for Rennie on his behalf, he told his worries to Mariam and sought for her help. She agreed to help him, immediately, he brought some bundles for her as a token. He promised to give her much more of the money when the job was done. Mariam recommended him to shun panicking into making a decision till he had gathered enough evidence against her. Rennie came out and saw the person she was never expecting to see in her entire life again. She wasn't pleased at all with his visit, she also did not want him to know of her suspicions and so pretended to be happy seeing him.
   They went out of the school to enjoy their private life. In the midst of this, Ram interrogated her on the activities she indulged in. She fobbed him off by telling him she was all day at lectures. Ram was fed up with her lies, it was clearly seen she was telling lies. The dress she wore when she was seen in the pub was the same dress she was putting on. He left her in the restaurant but paid for the expenses and also gave her fare back to school. His action was weird though but Rennie cared less. All she was focalized on was to eliminate him from her life.
