The cars drove by on the busy streets, barely visible due to the condensation that occurred on the window. Chattering guests and waiters kept at their business. It was the early evening, workers had just gotten off from the office. Fortunately for Mikey, that included a certain lady friend he has been waiting to see.
"Are you sure that you will pay the bill? We can half it, I'm sure I-" [Name] was cut off by the way he shook his head. Mikey had offered to take her out for dinner this evening as he had heard that she had gotten off work early today. Of course, he wouldn't pass up this opportunity.
A waiter came by their table with the bill, handing it to Mikey. A small pout was visible on the face of the person who sat across from him. He found her expression to be adorable in some way. Oh, how he wished every night was just like this one. Peaceful, with the wonderful view of someone he loved in front of him.
Despite being a crime boss, it sure did keep him with cash overflowing his pockets. And without a doubt, would gladly take his lovely lady out every evening if he could. Nonetheless, he still kept his feelings hidden. His gestures still were only seen as something a friend would gladly do.
[Name] wasn't oblivious in any way, she was observant. Mikey just wasn't that good at expressing his feelings. Despite being in love, he still has his pride and reputation to uphold.
They two left the restaurant, breathing in the cold air. Their breaths were visible, coming out as small hints of fog whenever they talked. Tonight was very peaceful, with the holidays maybe the people would rather spend their time at home with their loved ones. Or perhaps the heavens allowed these two souls to be at peace just for tonight.
"The night is still young," [Name] paused, turning her head to smile at Mikey. "Would you want to watch a movie? My treat this time."
He was hesitant at first, but however, could he say no to that adoring smile of hers? The two desperately didn't want to leave each other's side for tonight. Mikey agreed to her proposal, walking towards the movie theaters at the mall they were both in.
The man with white hair and black expensive clothes wanted to see the mystery-thriller movie that was showing that night. Turns out it was the last time it would be showing there. [Name] couldn't find it in her heart to say no, so she paid for the tickets and walked inside the Cinema with him. How bad could this be?
A terrifying look overcame her usually calm expression. Horror and thriller movies weren't exactly her strong suit. She clutched onto the helm of her jacket ever so tightly, her eyes never left the movie screen. No matter how afraid she was, it felt as if her eyes were glued to what was unfolding. The movie captivated her in some way.
Mikey held an unsatisfied expression, he had seen one or two of these things happen in person. So, naturally, he deemed it unrealistic in some ways. However, his attention was, too, elsewhere. The girl who sat next to him. He noticed the small gasps of surprise when the main character discovered something and maybe when she shook her head when it seems like one of the other characters would do something so obviously stupid.
That was until he almost jumped out of his seat in surprise after hearing a quiet, yet audible shriek from [Name]. She clutched onto his arm, her head buried into his shoulder. Away from the screen as the killer emerged out of nowhere to finish their job.
Although, he didn't care about the movie right now. Her surprised gesture made him feel like he could protect her. It made him feel like he wanted to. He slowly turned his head back on the screen, feeling her grip loosen yet her hand never left his arm.
"I didn't know you get scared easily, [Surname]," Mikey teased in a low tone of his voice after the movie. It was clear he had grown attached and more comfortable around her at times. A part of his old self just peeking out.
"Oh please, you can't expect me to see that much blood in one night!" she retorted, not loud enough for the other people around them to hear. However, something tugged on Mikey's heart when he heard her utter those words. Would she ever accept him as he is?
Mikey drove her home for the first time that night. But before she left he had asked her if she was free tomorrow. A part of him did not want to be alone for whatever events tomorrow brought. With a sad smile, she rejected his offer as she would be out of town. It felt unusual for her to leave on a workday, but he didn't push it.
As days passed, it brought memories along. Like leaves following the autumn breeze, not knowing when to stop. The two of them remembered the memories they had with their families, but the emotions that came with it were nothing but misery and pain.
