The sound of my phone alarm woke me up,
*beep beep*
I rose from my disheveled bed and rubbed my eyes,
Turning off the alarm
.
The sleepiness I tried to blink away,
Ignoring the fact that I couldn't sleep a wink yesterday,
I yawned, sighing in frustration shortly,
I reached for my tablet to enter the online class.
Throughout the entire meeting,
I was occupied with many other things,
Barely understanding the lesson,
Chores, errands,
So many demands.
It wasn't even halfway through the day,
Yet I felt like I was going to collapse into a deep slumber any moment.
Juggling academics and life at home,
Was for sure so tiring,
My attention span seemed to shorten,
Moment after moment,
My batteries were drained.

A ringing bell just outside of my door,
And the cold air pulled me from unconsciousness,
I climbed down a few steps from the top bunk,
My other roommates were already awake,
We greeted each other good morning.
After getting ready, I grabbed my backpack,
Dropped my things off on the classroom and hurried to the cafeteria to eat,
Their food is delicious as always.
Sitting face-to-face with my classmates and teachers,
My attention was fixated on the discussion,
The playful stares at each other when the teacher cracks a joke,
I also noticed we were more active than before.
The exhaustion from walking place to place,
Everything seems to move at a fast pace,
I could catch up somehow, though,
That same exhaustion slowly making me drift to sleep.
I couldn't quite understand why online classes were so much more exhausting than face-to-face ones,
But maybe it was because I was occupied with so many other things while simultaneously studying,
And my eyes were glued onto device screens,
While in face-to-face, there was immediate accommodation and feedback,
The activities were hands-on and we actually had to take initiative.
