Schlatt looked out across the water, wobbling a bit on the edge of the bridge.

Lights from the surrounding tall buildings shone across the water, reflecting back up into Schlatt's face. The moon shone down, illuminating the otherwise lightless bridge.

Schlatt felt tears prick his eyes. He was suddenly overwhelmed with a tidal wave of emotions and decided to sit down, a raging headache forming.

He kicked his legs out over the edge of the bridge, wondering if he'd die from the height, even despite the water below.

Walking along the sidewalk of the bridge was Wilbur. He had music blasting into his ears, looking at the ground. He noticed Schlatt over by the edge and immediately assumed he was going to jump.

He paused his music and ran over to Schlatt,  pulling him backwards away from the edge.

Schlatt felt himself getting tugged backwards, freaking out.

He felt the arms that had pulled him back wrap him in a hug. He had no idea who this stranger was but the hug was nice, warm, comforting. It was what he really needed.

Eventually, the other pulled away and lifted Schlatt's chin up to get a good look at him.

"Please don't jump, I have no idea what's wrong but all I know is that you get one life, live it well, don't end it sooner", Wilbur said, looking into Schlatt's eyes.

"I wasn't going to jump.. I just wanted a chance to get out the house and to relax.. honestly, life has been going to shit..", Schlatt mumbled, averting Wilbur's gaze.

Wilbur's eyes shone with sympathy, and he pulled Schlatt over to the sidewalk of the bridge, and then sat down next to him.

"Tell me, I've got time", he said.

Schlatt perked up a little, trying to figure out in his brain where to start.

"Well.. the current situation I'm in isn't very good, my boyfriend is abusive and he's been drinking a lot more often, which makes him a lot worse.. I just wanted a break from it all..", Schlatt explained.

Wilbur did not skip over that fact that Schlatt had said 'boyfriend'. It made him.. happy, in a way, and kind of hopeful..? He had no idea why though.

"I'm so sorry, do you know if there's anyway I can help?", Wilbur asked, lifting up Schlatt's chin so Schlatt had to look at him instead of the ground.

Schlatt nodded a little. "I did pack myself a little bag with a few essentials in it, not that I had much anyways, just my phone, charger, and a few other things, so honestly if I never went back to the house it'd be fine".

"It's just.. I don't have anywhere to go so maybe I could.. stay with you..?", he suggested, averting his gaze away from Wilbur's face again.

Wilbur smiled softly and took both of Schlatt's hands in his, getting up and helping Schlatt onto his feet as well.

"I don't see why not", he said, letting go for a second to go over to the side he had found Schlatt by and grabbed the small backpack off of the ground and walked back over to Schlatt, giving him the bag and taking his hand again, leading him along the bridge.

Schlatt glanced down at their intertwined hands and a light blush spread across his face.

Wilbur didn't seem to notice it much, or at least didn't act like he saw, and continued on until they reached a small house snug between two other identical houses, just painted differently.

It was smack dab in the middle of the city, and many cars and taxis drove by along the street. Wilbur unlocked the door and led Schlatt into the house, which was nice and cozy.

"Are you sure it's ok for me to live here with you? I don't want to be a burden..", Schlatt mumbled, avoiding Wilbur's questioning gaze.

"Of course it is, and you aren't a burden, you never will be", Wilbur responded, going over to Schlatt and giving him a quick hug, which made Schlatt smile.

"By the way, I never caught your name", Wilbur said as he stepped away.

"It's uh, Johnathan Schlatt, but I go by Schlatt", he said, adding, "What about you?"

"I'm Wilbur Soot, nice to meet you Schlatt", Wilbur greeted, giving him a warm smile.

He took Schlatt's bag from him and set it on a counter and sat on the couch in the living room, patting the seat next to him as a gesture for Schlatt to sit.

Schlatt went over and hesitantly sat beside Wilbur, cringing a bit as Wilbur put his arm around him.

Wilbur noticed it and immediately took his arm away.

"I'm sorry, invasion of personal space, got it", he apologized quickly. Schlatt took Wilbur's arm and put it back around him.

"It's fine.. I just wasn't expecting that, and I haven't gotten close affection or touch like that for awhile..", Schlatt mumbled, blushing and looking away at Wilbur's amused expression from him putting his arm back around Schlatt.

A few minutes passed with comfortable silence between them. Schlatt even dared to rest his head against Wilbur's shoulder, which caused Wilbur to smile and reach his hand up to Schlatt's head, stroking it softly and playing with his hair.

What a turnaround for both of their lives.

It had been two years. They had been dating for two years.

Wilbur had a big plan for today that may or may not change their lives forever. The duo had just had a fancy little dinner and now were watching the sunset together on the bridge where they met.

The bright colors reflected off of the water, and the lights of the city shone onto it as well, making the water a beautiful array of blended colors.

Wilbur's hand was holding Schlatt's, and he was mostly admiring Schlatt instead of the view. But Schlatt most definitely was watching the sky and the river, and his expression was adorable.

"Hey Schlatt..", he began, causing the other to look at his lover.

"Yeah?", he asked, a wide smile across his face.

Wilbur fumbled with his back pocket and pulled out a small box. Schlatt's eyes widened as he looked at it, taking a guess on what was happening.

Wilbur got down on one knee.

This was it.

The moment.

He opened the box slowly, and opened his mouth to begin, but before he could say anything he was quickly cut off by a hug.

"You don't even have to ask, of course", Schlatt responded, hugging Wilbur even tighter, feeling tears of happiness prick his eyes.

Wilbur just hugged him back and smiled, somehow even more than he was before.
