schlatt huffed, holding the basket closer to himself. he hated when it was a busy day in the village. and busy it was.
of course it was, it was saturday. the busiest day, especially right in the central part of the market. and the place he needed to get to so he could grab supplies happened to be set right in the middle of the town center.
keeping to himself was difficult with all the people around him bumping shoulders. yes, it was that crowded.
he breathed a sigh of relief as he finally made it inside the small cottage that made up the store he got supplies from.
he needed stuff like flour, sugar, and other stuff for the bakery he worked at. his friend, minx, owned the bakery.
people often teased the two about dating, and it always annoyed minx and made schlatt uncomfortable. in these times, it was typical for a man and woman to be together, the man being more, well, "masculine" and the women being these soft creatures unable to do anything but cook, clean, and have children.
talk about toxic masculinity stereotypes.
schlatt could never admit it to anyone but his friends, but he didn't want to be the "man" in the relationship. he wanted to be the soft one, being taken care of, not ruling over everything with a strict tone.
he always liked feminine stuff more than he knew he was supposed to. and he couldn't imagine himself being in a relationship with a woman.
he was attracted to men, and ashamed to admit.
and minx didn't mind either gender, but she seemed to prefer the ladies.
schlatt went around, picking out certain things that were needed and set them on the wooden counter where a worker checked his stuff.
he put some money on the table and then picked his basket up again from the counter and took off back to the bakery.
he was almost there, when suddenly he bumped into someone. he stumbled and almost fell, thankfully clutching the basket in a way so nothing spilt.
"hey, watch where you're going! are you blind or something?", schlatt shouted at the person, a hood cloaking their identity.
"i apologize", the person, presumably male considering the deep voice, said with a thick british accent.
schlatt could've sworn he had heard one similar before, but he brushed it off.
schlatt huffed and turned back towards the bakery, pushing the door open and making sure it shut behind him with the bell ringing from his entrance.
the man had just watched him leave angrily, and felt a strange fascination with him crash into him like a wave. the guy was extremely pretty.
'i've gotta tell niki about him', he thought to himself as he snuck away, knowing he wasn't supposed to be out in the market anyways.
as soon as he got back he pulled his hood off, revealing the curly brown hair hiding underneath. he took the cloak off, leaving him in trousers and a plain white dress shirt, and hung it up on a rack.
he made his way to the grand staircase that led to the second floor of the large castle that he was lucky enough to call his home.
he made his way to his room, where he found his friend niki tidying up.
"hi wilbur! back so soon?", she asked, setting down a pile of clothes she had just finished folding.
niki was the only person he could trust with this sort of stuff. he knew she would never tell anyone.
"yeah, i bumped into this really cute guy and-", the guy, now known as wilbur, was cut off.
"a guy? tell me about him!", niki exclaimed. it had been a while since the prince was in love, and niki wanted to hear all about the guy who had caught his interest.
wilbur went and laid down on the bed, his feet near the pillow, just gushing about how attractive he found schlatt, despite not knowing his name.
niki had sat by wilbur's head, an amused expression painted on her face.
"perhaps you could go back tomorrow? you said he went into that bakery, he might be there then", niki suggested, standing up to leave as wilbur shot her a wide smile.
"i'll do that, thanks niki", wilbur thanked. niki nodded, a smile appearing on her face as well.
---the next day---
minx looked up from the counter, staring at the person in the doorway, surprised.
there stood wilbur, not wearing the cloak, decked out in full royal attire.
"hello there, you must be minx? i'm assuming so since this is called "minx's bakery" and i see no other females", wilbur greeted, a politeness evident in his tone.
"p-prince wilbur! welcome, what can i do for you?", minx asked, slipping up a bit on the first word, still wondering why the prince of all people would come to this bakery, and not the one stationed inside the castle, which was supposedly amazing.
"i just came to inspect the way you run the business, the workers, the pastries", wilbur lied, very intent on checking out one worker in particular.
"well if you want to go and look around the back, be my guest", minx told him, looking back at the door to attend to another customer, who looked just as shocked to see the prince.
wilbur strode back behind the counter to where there was two guys. a younger one and- there he was.
he was kneading a ball of dough, getting it prepared to bake. schlatt glanced at wilbur's direction, turned away again, and then did a double take.
the younger boy, who's name tag read 'toby/tubbo :)', gasped.
"prince wilbur?", tubbo exclaimed.
wilbur nodded and flashed a movie star smile at the boy before looking at schlatt. schlatt felt like he was shrinking under wilbur's intense gaze, and he felt his face heat up, turning back to his work.
wilbur walked over to schlatt and watched him from over his shoulder. tubbo went off to the main room to find minx.
they both peeked their heads in again, watching wilbur and schlatt.
"minx, do you know why the prince is here?", tubbo asked.
"no clue", minx replied.
schlatt stayed silent. he hated the feeling of being watched while he was working, but he would never say so aloud.
eventually schlatt turned around to face wilbur, his already hot face burning like lava as wilbur took his hand and tenderly kissed it, bowing a bit as he did so.
"the pleasure is mine love, to meet you. i don't suppose you recognize me, though i'm sure you know who i am. may i know the name of the fair lad who bumped into me yesterday?", wilbur asked.
schlatt's eyes widened. 'shit shit shit shit', schlatt thought, panicked.
"his name is schlatt!", tubbo called out, saving him from having to answer.
"schlatt, huh? a beautiful name for a beautiful man", wilbur grinned at schlatt's shy expression.
"welp, i must be off. expect me to be back tomorrow love. i'll have a little something for you", wilbur said, winking at schlatt before striding out of the room.
and that was just the start.
