wilbur sighed, a smile appearing on his face, hand resting on his face. he watched schlatt, who was reading to some kids. wilbur usually came here just to see schlatt, even though schlatt didn't know him.

wilbur wasn't even supposed to be there. no one could see him there, he used invisibility potions to disguise himself. there was just something so compelling about schlatt that drew him forwards.

schlatt smiled as all the kids laughed, and started talking to their friends. schlatt wasn't a librarian and he didn't work there, he just liked to go there and read to the kids. they loved it.

schlatt stood up, ready to go when a little kid came up to him and tugged on his shirt. wilbur's attention sparked and he stared at the kid.

the kid pulled a blue and yellow flower crown out from behind his back, smiling as he placed it in schlatt's hands.

"awww.. thank you!", schlatt exclaimed, gingerly placing it on his head of brown semi-curly hair. the kid nodded happily and wandered off, taking what was presumably his mother's hand.

wilbur smiled at the look of pure happiness on schlatt's face. he watched as schlatt took his bag and slung it over his shoulder, ready to leave. wilbur got up as well, fully intending to follow schlatt.

wilbur hovered over the ground ever so slightly so that schlatt wouldn't hear his footsteps on the gravel or his boots on stone. every so often schlatt would glance over his shoulder, as if he knew he was being followed.

wilbur wasn't sure how he even got into the town, let alone the region. fairies were banned from this place due to the war going on between the two species. a war that has been around for longer than wilbur's been around.

so longer than 25 years. long time for some dumb war that no one cares about. nothing even really happens, sometimes there's a few skirmishes but that's about it.

instead of staying at schlatt's house, wilbur realized, all schlatt did was drop off his bag and then left again, heading towards the woods.

wilbur grew even more confused as he quickly approached the border, passing into the forest, which was a free zone between the two regions. but it wasn't much of a free zone anymore, except for fighting no one went here. occasionally scientists and doctors would come collect plants but no one else came out here other than that.

schlatt soon got near where wilbur's kingdom began and wilbur froze. was he just going to let schlatt pass?

although wilbur didn't have to question his loyalty to his region long because schlatt stopped and turned around, staring straight at wilbur.

it was as if he could see him.

"i can see you."

"w-what?"

schlatt rolled his eyes.

"i can see you, i'm not stupid", was all schlatt said.

"oh..", wilbur muttered, fluttering down to the ground, landing nimbly. the grass in this area was extremely green, greener than the grass in schlatt's town (i was gonna say region but that just sounds soo wrong).

"how long have you been able to see me exactly..?", wilbur asked hesitantly, afraid of the answer he would receive.

"since you've started illegally coming to my kingdom. you really are fascinated by my looks, aren't you?", schlatt responded, ending with a question of his own.

wilbur didn't respond, he just looked down with his face a bright red. schlatt laughed.

"it's fine loverboy, i know i'm a stunning sight to see. i would even go as to say you're better than even i", schlatt said with a smile. that made wilbur look back up.

"i beg to differ", wilbur replied.

and for awhile, the two stood there, playfully arguing, the beginnings of a friendship.

"so, if you can see me does that mean everyone else can see me as well?", wilbur finally asked.

"no. i'm not the same species. as you probably noticed, i was the only faun there. they took me in when i was young, the faun region is not anywhere near us. and unlike your kind, no offense, my kingdom has sympathy. you know people always think fairies are all sweet, but they're real assholes", schlatt said, going quiet at the end.

"did my kind.. hurt you personally in some way?", wilbur questioned, still feeling slightly offended and defensive to his species.

"they killed my parents", was all schlatt said.

wilbur immediately regretted acting more aggressive and instead felt bad for the ram hybrid (which is what a faun is, half human half ram).

"i don't want you feeling bad for me. i don't even remember them, i was too young anyways", schlatt mumbled.

after wilbur didn't respond, schlatt added on.

"i think you should get back to your region now, i'm sure your kingdom is missing you now."

"..yeah"

"well, i guess i'll see you. or maybe it would be better if i didn't, you shouldn't come over anymore, it's dangerous for the both of us. i never caught your name, but it's not like it matters. i'm schlatt", he said before running off.

"..wilbur", wilbur uttered out long after schlatt was gone.
