schlatt stood on the dock leading out to the ocean. it was nighttime, a fair amount of bright white stars sprinkled across the sky. there was a crescent moon in the sky that night.
he thought he was alone, alone to think about life and what it had recently become. alone until he saw a shadow move closer by his feet.
he whipped around, only to be faced by none other than wilbur soot. he stumbled back, narrowing his eyes in suspicion at him.
"wilbur? why are you here-", schlatt was interrupted.
"oh please, this isn't manburg land. it's free territory. why are you here?", wilbur asked.
schlatt didn't want to tell him why he was truly there.
"why does it matter?", schlatt turned away from wilbur, looking out across the ocean again. wilbur walked over to him and stood beside him.
"just curious. i've never seen you out here before", wilbur responded, looking out at the large body of water thoughtfully before looking down at schlatt.
schlatt glanced at him before moving forwards away from wilbur. he gave him a cold look, with a bit of hurt in his gaze.
"why are you just hanging around here? we aren't friends", schlatt stated, the sentence extremely painful to say out loud.
wilbur sighed and looked away, kicking a small rock away from his feet.
"we used to be", he said in a small voice, unusual for his normal sureness and loud tone.
after wilbur didn't elaborate, schlatt went off into his own tangent.
"we were best friends wilbur. you know i didn't want to be president. i wanted to get revenge on you, take away your whole life like you did to me. and now i hate being president. i hate myself. i hate this nation. i'm so tired of everything..", schlatt sounded like by the end of it he was almost in tears.
wilbur felt bad, but there was one part of schlatt's mini speech that he clung to.
"i didn't take your whole life away", wilbur said, not wanting to be accused of such a thing.
"you went away, and that ruined my life. you just dropped me from your life like i was nothing. you were my everything wil. yet you did that to me", schlatt went quiet at the end.
if wilbur didn't feel guilty as fuck already, he sure did now after hearing schlatt's confession.
he was a total jerk. hell, he couldn't even go to his ex-friend and comfort him.
"schlatt.. i'd be so willing to try again. i don't know what was wrong with me, you're one of the best things that has happened to me. i would hate to lose you again when i have a chance to take you back", wilbur tried.
"..you say that as if we dated", schlatt spat with a sour tone that made wilbur wince. that was an extremely sensitive topic between the two. wilbur was surprised schlatt even brought it up.
"i mean, i wouldn't mind that", wilbur said, trying to peek over at schlatt's face. he felt like he was talking to a wall with schlatt's back to him.
he saw schlatt's ears prick up.
which made him turn around.
"really?", schlatt asked, not wanting to sound too hopeful. wilbur nodded. schlatt smiled a little and turned his head away.
"i'm sorry", schlatt then said suddenly.
"why are you apologizing? you never did anything wrong", wilbur protested, walking over to schlatt and pulling him closer by wrapping his arm around schlatt's waist.
"i just- i'm being kind of a jerk right now and-", once again, schlatt was cut off.
"you know what, i've had enough of this angsty shit, you're going in the water."
"what- wait wilbur no-!"
a big splash and wilbur's maniacal laughter were the only sounds heard until schlatt came back up to the surface, yelling curses at wilbur.
wilbur helped him climb out, still giggly. he sat on the dock's wooden floor while schlatt sat on his knees, shivering. wilbur took his trench coat off and put it around schlatt, bringing schlatt closer to him.
he put an arm around his waist again and with his other hand cupped schlatt's face, pulling him closer until their faces were only a few mere inches apart.
"can i..?", wilbur asked softly, only a tad higher than a whisper. schlatt nodded, not too eagerly but excited for this moment he had been waiting for nonetheless.
wilbur closed the small gap between them, smiling into the kiss. schlatt kissed back, feeling happy tears sting the back of his eyes. they both just enjoyed the moment, not wanting to ever part.
but part of living requires breathing, and they were both running out of air.
as they parted, they both smiled at each other again, eyes sparkling. it was like they were teenagers again.
a loud shout was suddenly heard from across the small field.
"wilbur!", the voice called. a figure was running along the coast.
when they spotted wilbur on the dock, their jaw dropped.
"WHAT THE FUCKKK?!?"
"tommy..", wilbur grumbled as schlatt hid his red face from view.
