"They were right about the artery." Abi said, walking into the waiting room two hours later and sat on the sofa next to her husband. Hunter moved away from the window he was looking out of and sat across from them.
"Is she alright?" He asked. Abi nodded.
"She needed a lot of blood, but they managed to remove the glass and repair the damage easily. She shouldn't have too much of a scar thankfully."
"She has enough of those from when she was younger." Mitch said quietly. "I thought we were done with this shit! It's been years since Rae got hurt. How do I stop her from running back to Sasha all the time dammit?!" He stood up and paced the room. "That crazy bitch nearly killed my daughter this time!"
"I've locked her up." Ty said, walking into the room. The three in the room turned and looked at him. "Given the extent of Rae's injury this time and the state of the house, I arrested her."
"And I agreed." Hunter added.
"He may not look much, but Rick has money. She'll be out on bail by tomorrow." Mitch grumbled. "Between the Hughes and the Beckett's, we have a sheriff, a deputy and the county's top lawyer and we still can't keep Raegan safe."
"Can't you appeal to the judge first?" Abi asked.
"The best I could get from doing that is to have her forced into rehab, but she won't go. She never has before."
"Would it give us a few more days to try and talk sense into Rae though?" Hunter asked.
"Yeah... It might. I'll be back shortly." Mitch walked out, punching a number into his phone as he went.
"Can I see her? I need to see with my own eyes that she's ok." Hunter asked Abi almost sheepishly.
Abi smiled at him, knowing full well how the handsome police officer across from her, felt about her stepdaughter. A blind man could see it and yet Rae seemed oblivious. Abi didn't care about the age difference between them. She couldn't think of anyone better suited to Rae than Hunter. Well except maybe his brother, but Nash and Rae would never see each other as anything other than best friends.
"She was still under sedation in recovery when I left her, but I'll get you a few minutes with her." She stood up and nodded towards the door. "Come on Deputy Hughes."
* * * * *
"She's in the bed at the very end." Abi said, pointing down the row of curtained off beds. Hunter nodded and walked slowly towards Raegan. He got more and more nervous about what he'd find, the closer he got, but the moment he stepped through the curtain he smiled.
Aside from the nasal cannula she had giving her oxygen, she looked just like she was sleeping.
"Almost perfect." He whispered, sitting on the chair beside her and taking her hand gently.
"Only almost?" Came a groggy voice beside him. His eyes snapped up to her face and saw her weary green ones, looking back at him and she had a weak, but still cheeky grin on her face.
"I mean you gotta have points deducted for that big ass hole in your back." Hunter shrugged.
"Asshole." She said with a laugh, which quickly turned into a cringe of pain.
"Hey hey! Maybe no more talking, if laughing hurts you. We both know I'm hilarious." He gave her a wink and she replied with a small smile and shake of her head. "You scared me... Us... ReRe." He admitted quietly. She squeezed his hand.
"I'm ok Hunter. It's just a scratch." She said, poking her tongue out at him.
"Do that again and I'll bite it." He laughed.
