Misery

The doctor made me stay inside the hospital for two days. After that, when he already checked everything on me, he finally let me get discharged. He also told me that I am now alright to do different kinds of activities but it would still be great to avoid too strenuous ones. Baka raw kasi mabinat na naman ako.

It was already Saturday. Sinamahan ako nina Mom at Dad na ma-dischrage mula sa hospital. Mom had her car with her. Iyon ang ginamit namin para makabalik sa aking condo. For today, we already decided to get the remains of my baby. I already agreed on letting her go. We're going to give her a proper burial now.

"Andre still doesn't know that you already got discharged today," rinig kong paalala ni Mom. "You can call him. Tell him too that we are giving your child a small burial," dagdag nito.

I let out a sigh as I looked at the outside of the window. "He's probably working right now..." I trailed off.

I don't know if I am allowed to interrupt him when he's busy working. Even though it's already a weekend, I know that he's still busy working.

"Amaia, call Andre and tell him about your child's burial today," matigas na banggit ni Mom.

I sighed as I looked for my phone inside my bag. Agad kong hinanap ang aking cellphone at tinawagan ang telepono ng kaniyang opisina. He's probably at the office now and wouldn't answer if I will call him on his personal phone.

After a few rings, his secretary answered my call. "Hi, good afternoon. Is Mr. Velasquez there?" diretso kong tanong.

"Who is this, Maam? Do you have an appointment with Mr. Velasquez?" pormal na tanong ng kaniyang sekretarya.

Agad akong tumikhim at saka nagsalita. "It's Amaia Imogen. You can tell him my name, he already knows who I am..." sagot ko.

Hindi ko alam kung puwede ko bang sabihin sa kaniyang sekretarya na asawa ako ng kaniyang boss. She still might not know about it.

Agad kong narinig ang mahinang pagsinghap mula sa kabilang linya. "Mrs. Velasquez! Ahm, no, Maam. Mr. Velasquez is no longer in his office. He took an early leave for today," sagot nito.

My forehead creased upon hearing her answer. Wala siya sa opisina niya ngayon? That's surprising. "An early leave? Can I know why?" tanong ko pa.

"I-I don't know, Maam, eh. He went to the office earlier than I expected. Then after a few hours of staying inside his office, he went out and told me that he is already leaving. He finished all of the papers already before he left and told me to take care of it," sagot nito. "Mukha nga po siyang malungkot at pagod na pagod..." she trailed off.

I nodded as I looked down on my lap."Okay, thank you," I answered and immediately turned the phone call off.

He's probably back at our house for now. If he looked tired when he left the office, then he's probably home by now.

Binalik ko ang aking tingin sa unahan at saka kinalabit sa balikat si Mom. She was the one driving for us. "Mom, drop me off at our house. I'll talk to Andre there," I said. "Kayo nalang ang pumunta sa condo ko. The container is on top of my bedside table."

Dire-diretso si Mom sa pagmamaneho hangga't sa ilang minuto pa ay nakarating na rin kami sa aming bahay. Nag-iisa na lamang akong bumaba at saka dire-diretso sa pagpasok sa loob. Kumunot ang aking noo nang mapansin ang isang bodyguard sa labas lamang ng aming gate.

He hired a bodyguard now, huh?

Nang makalapit ako sa aming gate ay hindi na ako tinanong pa ng guard. He probably knows what I looked like already. Nang makapasok sa loob ay agad kong napansin ang iilang kasambahay sa loob ng bahay. I already saw one at the garden and one at the living room. He probably hired all of these peoppe since no one can look at our house anymore.
