Everything was dark for Cross. He was unsure if he was dead or not...perhaps he isn't if he can still think. Once he realized this he slowly forced his unconscious body to awaken for him.
His eyes slowly opened up, the bright light from the sun hitting his eyes. The sounds around him seemed to have increased in volume. The birds from outside, the sounds of trees in the wind. The sounds of a book being read.
The bright light soon settled. It was a room, a simple one. He was laying on a bed. Across the room were a dresser and a mirror, beside that, a closet.
Sitting at the end of the bed was Dream. He peacefully was reading a history book.
Cross attempted to quietly get up to do anything honestly...he had no plan. His first thought is to try to knock Dream unconscious and go back to the castle...but he's unsure if he'll be unheard.
Suddenly he felt a spiking pain in his back. "AH-!" he yelled. Dream stopped and looked over. "Oh! You're awake!" He smiled. "Oh- please, do not get up, rest easy," Dream closed the book and lightly pushed him back down.
Cross grunted. His body was sore, it was too much to move. "You ought to relax..." Dream suggested.
"...Why am I not dead? Are you going to execute me publicly or something?!" Cross glared. "Heaven no! I don't want to kill you!" Dream reassured with a worried look.
"I would never want to kill someone!" Dream explained. "So please...just sit tight," Dream placed the book beside him before standing up. He went over to the nightstand and picked up a plant and fork.
"Breakfast was made!" Dream offered it to Cross. Cross leaned away, wary of it. "Ah- it's not poison! Look!" Dream then proceeded to take a small reasonable bite out of each food.
There were eggs, sausage, and hash browns. Once Dream proved it wasn't poisoned, Cross was willing to eat. Dream aided Cross in helping him eat.
Cross healed a bit, but his body refused to move. Once he finished, Dream placed the plate down. "If I may... examine your body- I've heard during my friend's fight with you, that they scuffed you up a bit! Especially your nose! They said they broke it!" Dream giggled a bit nervously.
Cross stayed quiet as he watched. "S-So...may I?" Dream asked. Cross looked to the side and nodded.
Dream proceeded to move the covers away. He was quick to check his chest for any injuries. He was badly beaten up from training.
Dream then went from his chest to his legs. Cross was sore from running...
Dream then checked his head. Ink caused brute trauma to his skull last night with his brush.
Cross felt awkward with his face being in Dream's chest as he checked his skull.
His face turned a bit purple at the awkwardness.
Dream soon stopped and placed his head back down. "Your body's close to caving in and giving up on you...you need to take some time for yourself, rather than just training...or whatever you're doing to get yourself wore out like this..." He told Cross
"What's the point of training when your body will go stiff...this is the perfect time for a break!" Dream smiled.
Cross relaxed his eyelids before closing them with a bit of frustration. He doesn't even think he has a choice in the matter.
Soon enough a knock on the door as it opened. A skeleton with a blue mask on. "Dream- aren't you supposed to hide your identity?" They huffed
"No- he knows what I looked like before we even met...and take that silly thing off of you!" Dream whined.
"Hell no- there are flyers that want this mask dead in Nightmare's kingdom... don't forget that he's a moon knight! We are rivals and that's final!" He huffed as he pointed at the mask.
"You're too serious sometimes -" Dream shook his head. "He is right though-" The purple mask followed behind, stepping into the room.
"Unless we plan on killing him, the rest of our identities must stay hidden, despite if he'll keep his word or not!" They spoke. Dream pouted. "Can I use your name at least??" Dream asked. "No- nothing about us can be shared as long as he's around...just call us either 'blue smile' or 'purple smile" something like that," the purple smile compromised
Dream nodded, "Then where's the brown smile?" Dream asked. "Checking your familiar's location," the blue one spoke. "I see- we are in big trouble if she comes back.
"Why not rid of him?" The blue ones asked. "We're not killing anyone - that's final!" Dream narrowed his eyes.
"Why not return him the way he is!" The purple one suggested. "In the condition he's in? No way!" Dream shook his head.
The purple one and blue one looked at each other in distress. "You don't suppose we can keep them? Your familiar will find them in this house-" the purple one said.
"It's just till he's healed up enough to go back," Dream crossed his arms. Someone soon teleported into the house. "I'm back!" They spoke. The blue one went out of the room to check on them.
"We can not keep them here- nor is it reasonable to heal the enemy, Cross could stab us in the back-" he said. "We'll...figure something out! Not everyone is bad... he's capable of good too!" Dream said
Cross wondered what his fate will be. The purple one sighed at Dream's attempt. The blue one soon came back up with a skeleton I'm a brown smiled mask.
"So we can't kill him, return him now, but we have to heal him...just not in this house- why not make a little hut far away then we're we can heal them!" The brown one suggested
Dream nodded. "You can't be serious -" the blue one spoke. "If this is how Dream wants to handle this then it's not my choice- we'll be peaceful, pick him up and blindfold him," they ordered before tossing over a black blindfold.
The two of them sighed. The blue one walked over to Cross and blinded him.
Cross felt himself getting picked up, afterward as they walked out of the house and outside. They walked a good distance away before they stopped.
"Alright! This is good!" One spoke. There were sounds of liquid being splashed and something forming before it stopped. The sound of a door opening and the sound of stepping on wood followed.
Cross was then placed down a bit before the blindfold was taken off. He was in a small shed-like house with one bed, covers, and books inside. It was the only thing that could fit.
"You'll stay here, locked in this house for the time being, for Dream as spared you-" the blue one told him.
The brown one walked over and showed Cross a silver ring with an amethyst crystal on it. "Keep this on your finger...if you tap on the crystal, it'll let Dream know that you need him on his own ring...it keeps you both connected no matter how far you are, Dream will know where you are if it's tapped," the brown one explained.
Ink then grabbed Cross's wrist and slid the ring on. "Let's get going now -" the brown one left. The two left over smiled skeletons followed suit.
Dream sat next to Cross for a second, showing him their ring. It was also silver with a yellow diamond as its crystal.
"Don't worry! I promise to always come and help you, despite whatever I'm doing!" Dream smiled. Dream showed Cross his pinky finger
"...put that away - I don't need your pity -" Cross turned away. Dream looked a little sad but understood. "Either way, I'll keep my word, I'll check up on you daily," Dream told him before standing up, leaving the small shed before closing and locking him inside from the outside.
"Come on Dream!" Ink yelped.
"Coming!" He replied, rushing over to keep up
