I woke up to the voice of a crashing pan.
I groaned and blinked away the sleepiness, and rubbed my eyes. I breathed in.
"BASTARD!" it was Mike's voice, screaming.
I sprang up on the bed, the bed cover flying off me.
Kyle's voice echoed through the walls.
"How many times do I have to tell you!?" he was yelling.
And he was shouting for another five minutes, in which I got up and cleaned myself.
I wore a red t-shirt Grandma Jo had given with a black jacket and black pants.
I pushed the door knob and walked out. Mike and Kyle were drinking coffee in the hall, glaring at each other.
"You're insane," I heard Mike's voice, hissing at Kyle. "Do you even realize how dangerous it is? To her,"
I frowned, to her?
"She has to know," Kyle was saying.
I walked up to them.
They turned their heads and smiled, shifting uncomfortably.
"Good morning," I said, and ran down, while I heard them reply in groggy tones.
Downstairs, Grandma Jo was seated on the dining table her ringed fingers curling around a cup.
"Oh," she smiled. "Coffee?"
I smiled and sat beside her. The cup was steaming. I kept it to my lips.
"Had a good night sleep?" she asked.
"Yes," I eliminated the memory of hitting my head against the drawer last night.
"Well," It was Mike, grinning and patting his bird. I looked at his left forearm. He still had it bandaged with the panda sticker on it.
"We gotta go soon,"
"Exactly," Kyle said.
"I am coming," Grandma Jo said, lifting her chin up and looking ahead.
"No," Kyle said. "That cannot be-"
Grandma Jo filed out an iPad and showed it to Kyle. He leaned in.
"So?" he asked.
"So, you must go with an adult,"
"But we can't take you, grandma,"
"Then what are your plans?"
"Isn't there any other option? They do know my name-"
"Whether you're Herman or not you can't go into an air craft, just, like, that!"
"What do you mean your name?" I asked. "Herman?"
Grandma Jo looked side to side and then looked at Kyle.
Kyle dropped his hands to his pockets. "Later, Des," he waved away the subject.
I wanted to press on it further, but I sat back and sealed my mouth instead. Finding Misty was more important.
"I'm coming," Grandma Jo looked side ways at Kyle and Mike. "That's final."
Kyle shook his head, but said. "Yes, grans..."
"We go to Peace Isles and just...." Mike threw his hands to the sides. "Crash in?"
"Well," I placed my cup on the table. It landed with a clatter of ceramic. "We could tell them we have the antidote or something,"
"You don't need to worry about that," Kyle said, blankly.
