Aurelia woke up to something wet being poured on her, she slowly regained consciousness and looked around, nothing new. She got up and to her left was a man with a bull mask sharpening a large axe, she wasn't afraid of him, you would get used to the masks when you are there a year.
Yes, she was still alive, but doomed to be a slave to the Norsemen. Thank the Gods that she wasn't a sex slave like most woman. She was too young to be a whore, so she cooked their meal. The downside of the job is that if you make something that they don't like, they would beat you up. That's what's happening to her for the past year. For a month they were sailing to some country no one knew if it even existed, but the ship looked magnificent, with wolf and eagle carvings on it.
She went into the kitchen and as she started cutting the meat, she heard the barbarians talking about some Kraken; she learned the barbaric language so that she can understand them better, to know if they mocked her.
Suddenly the ship swayed hard and some meat fell on the ground. Fuck, she thought to herself, just my lucky day. The whole kitchen was silent, she knew that this was a bad sign, soon enough all hell broke loose. "You fucking useless piece of shit!", one of the barbarians who were chatting barked and slapped her in the face causing her to fall to the ground. All she could hear was them laughing at her. We'll see who laughs in the end, she thought angrily. "We're hungry so cook!", he hit her with his foot and she slowly got up with dignity, not caring that they were laughing at her, she proceeded to cook. After they finished their lunch, they went out of the kitchens to her relief. She sat in a room where slaves dine and starts eating bread. They get meat while we get bread, she thought, how ironic. But she couldn't argue with that, even her tribe was cruel to slaves. As she ate, she got a bad feeling, as if a storm was coming their way.
All of a sudden, a crashing noise was heard and she stared falling back roughly on the wall. The ship was swaying uncontrollably, it was scary she ran to the door and started heading for the deck of the ships. As she neared the deck, she could hear people screaming and shouting. As she came to the deck the north men were shouting at each other saying that its coming. The storm was rough, you couldn't even see anything where was she. She didnt know, winds were harsh, even her eyes hurt. The waves were crashing on the ship, they were so big that some men were taken in the ocean, to their death. Suddenly behind her, the ship started to sink, she turned around to see what was going on, she saw tentacles wrapped around the end of the ship, she was scared and in awe at the same time. No time for fear, she told herself, I must survive this. Could Norse mythology be true, they were right about the beast that lives in the ocean, the Kraken?
That's when the beast made its appearance, a big octopus like creature, but it was as big as an island. All of a sudden it screeched, the sound coming out was hurting her ears, it was as if someone was growling and screaming at the same time. She could hear people getting out of the ship, some even got snatched by the tentacles, she was frozen, she couldn't look away as she stared at the beast's eye. Suddenly one tentacle broke the ship in half slowly, Aurelia sprinted to grab onto something or she would fall into the beasts' mouth, people were falling inside it mouth, their last screams will haunt her for life at that moment. She grabbed the railing of the ship tightly as the ship was in the air, she was right above the beast's mouth. He had sets of teeth, just waiting for its victims to fall in. She started to climb on the railing wanting to run, with all her strength she made it on the side of the ship, on the railing. Standing up straight wasn't easy, the ship was swaying and she had just a little space for only one leg. She slowly started walking towards the end as the beast screeches angrily and goes to grab her. She avoided the tentacle just barely, almost falling off, taking a deep breath she sprinted towards the end with the tentacle right behind her. As she reaches the end, she jumps off the edge immediately, the tentacle was near her, almost reaching her, but it couldn't reach her as she fell into the water. She started swimming in any direction just to get out of here, all she could see in the water were corpses, just corpses.
As she came up for breath, she looked around seeing the storm gone and the ship as well as the Kraken gone completely. She just turned around not looking back at the horror, she swam to the land up ahead. I have to make it, she thought desperately, I must not look back or I'll lose myself.
She made it! She finally made it to land! Collapsing on the soft sand was calming as she started to lose consciousness, she wanted to rest. She hears a raven screech near her, she slowly opened her eyes, it was a raven looking in her eyes. Great, she thought dryly, I'm going to be eaten by a raven alive, she started laughing, not caring anymore. All of a sudden, she hears some sort of chant, it was so haunting, she saw a figure in the distance coming closer, it had on a raven's skull on his head and that's when she blacks out.
