At the same moment, something was falling from the sky at rapid speed.

It was unrecognizable, a hue of light that flew throughout the planet, passing islands, mountains, villages, cities, churches, temples, and schools.

Weather did not affect it.

Whatever it was, it was definitely attracted to magic, stopping for nothing and going in the direction where the highest magic affinity was present the most: the Institute.

To deliver a message, something important anyone who was powerful enough. To the being it was someone with an affinity for magic, no matter how strong.

Meanwhile, presents were being exchanged from friends, teachers and students alike.

Horace blushed when Ivory gave him versatile wood utensils.

Emiyo and Kameko hadn't made any presents for each other, so they watched with Lisa from afar.

"You're already celebrating Hannukah, right?" Emiyo said, breathing into her mitton-covered hands. The school heaters were rarely on."Lucky you get eight gifts."

"Actually," Lisa said, shaking her head. "I got leather, silk, demin, and fabric to make more clothes. Not only that but I also got a new notepad, sketchbook, pencils, and colored pencils."

Kameko nodded, firmly grasping the cane in her right hand. "As expected from Lisa to ask for beneficial things for charity work instead of self-interest."

The three were sitting at the cafeteria, the food was plain, stale, grain, and with cheese. Imports would take some time.

Make do with what they had.

It didn't make people less festive though. Some adults went to the basement section of the cafeteria and brought out fancy drinking glasses.

They toasted to the coming year, the clear water sloshing slightly to the side.

Kameko smiled. And she caught her parents' eye. They were happy, happy but slightly sad.

She knew why.

The final battle left her crippled.

It didn't come as a surprise to her, with what happened.

Kameko had used herself as a shield to protect her fellow classmates when Eve broke through her barrier.

Any damage from the fighting wouldn't be such a big deal once she detransformed as long as she was in her cure form. Except she decided to risk it all when Eve conjured a large whip that tried to electrocute the cooking and book club members.

The electrocution ripped the transformation off of her and allowed Kameko's normal self to take a blow to the head. The rest of Kameko's body soon followed.

Ezekiel was one of those she saved.

Annoying, self-absorbed, bratty, and a perfectionist himself...stared worldlessly at the discovery of who the girl in red really was. Similar to herself in a cosmic sort of way, always eager to show supremacy, And when she woke, he had helped her.

Enough damage had been done to her body and brain that forced her to rely on a stick to keep her footing, the school nurse said.

But Ezekiel had returned the favor. Allowing for her to live and fight when Kameko was most vulnerable.

Here she was, alive while he was buried not too far from the cafeteria.

He'd have wanted to make those cookies.

Kameko's gaze rested on a small Christmas tree in the back. The gleaming multicolor ornaments reflected the light from the cafeteria. While small, the yellow star at the very top sparkled brightly, trying it's hardest to light up the room.
