When it Drizzles
29

When he grabbed Kiran's trousers, he startled. Only then did he feel something was wrong. He took Deepa in his hand and ran for a long distance. When he went to an empty place and called the child, there was no movement.  He brought some water from somewhere and sprinkled it on her face, she cried.

Still, Kiran did not understand what had happened to her. But another night, the same man came again with two packets of biscuits. Kiran bought them because Deepa was hungry. But that day, he abused Kiran. He agreed to it so that he would not harm his sister. That was just the beginning. They were molested many times on the street.

Almost three years Kiran wandered in street with Deepa. He begged in streets for his sister. When she would cry with hunger, Kiran would fill her stomach only with tap water. One day a rich man asked them to follow his house. He offered food, accommodation, dress and education for them. Kiran believed him. And that man brought them to his house.

That was a huge Bungalow in a very remote place.  There were no houses nearby.  Kiran thought that man can provided everything they needed.
But one night, Kiran woke up in shock after hearing Deepa's painful cries from the next room. Deepa, who was sleeping nearby, was nowhere to be seen. When he ran to the room where he heard the cries, he saw the man burning Deepa's little legs with a cigarette.

"Oh, don't do anything to her, sir. We'll go."

Kiran pleaded with him. He was a sadist. A psycho.

"I didn't bring you here to let you go like that. I'm here alone. I brought you along for some fun to pass the time. I'm interested in children."

He laughed a wicked laugh.

Street life had taught Kiran the meaning of that laugh.

"Is this what you wanted, sir? I thought of you like a God. Didn't you cheat us?"

Kiran asked with tears in his eyes.

But he answered by slapping Kiran in the face.

"Sir, don't hurt her. Do whatever you want to me."

Kiran begged.

"I will hurt both of you."

He did as he was told. He often hurt Kiran and Deepa in turn. Not only him, but his friends also came and hurt them occasionally.

They endured this torture for six or seven months. By then, a woman who looked like an angel had come to work in the house. For some reason, he had appointed a woman to work in the kitchen. She was an old woman with gray hair, but she cooked well.

They realized that Deepa and Kiran were being harassed by that evil man and his friends. One day, when he was not there, she came to Kiran's room.

"If you want to escape, come with me."

Kiran looked at her.

"We came with that man after hearing that he could save us. Then he molested us. Will you too cheat us?"

"No, come with me. I can't bear to see your condition. Just treat me like your grandmother. I can't give you any great facilities or education. But I won't starve you."

With that assurance, Kiran took Deepa and with the woman escaped to their house.

"Doesn't he know grandmother's house?"

Kiran asked.

"He doesn't know anything about my house. If he comes looking for me, I'll tell the police."

Kiran felt at peace.

It was a hut. Still, Kiran and Deepa slept peacefully in it. But they couldn't stay there for long. One night, Kiran saw a drunk man coming and beating the old woman.
