It's been two and a half days since Thomas and I found the code for the maze. The boys and Teresa have been finding the words and so far they are the same as the ones in the other maze.

I still have no job and nobody really talks to me. I feel like they don't trust me anymore. I walked around the Glade all day because nobody lets me help. I'm fine. I don't need to heal. My injuries are fine.

I was heading to the Homestead when Thomas ran over to me. He seemed excited about something.

"Ashton, we figure out all the words. We found the code. We can leave!" He said and have me a hug.

After the hug he grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the Homestead. When we got there, there was already lots of people in the room.

"Now that we found the code what do we do?" Minho asked and looked at Thomas and I.

"We go out through the Griever hole." Thomas said.

"Ok. When do we leave?"

"Tonight." I said.

Everyone in the room looked at me. There were shocked faces, glares, and scared faces.

"Why wait if the Grievers are going to come ever night. Leave tonight and maybe we can get to the hole and not have to worry about them since they'll be here." I said.

"I'm good with that ideal." Thomas said.

"Well I'm not going. I'll take my chances here in the Glade. I'm not going back out into the world." Alby said then got up and left the Homestead.

I turned and followed him out. He was heading towards the deadheads. Why won't he leave? I thought he hated this place.

"Alby why won't you leave?"

"I went through the changing. I got a glimpse of the world. Something they call the Flare is making everyone crazy. I don't want to live in that world."

"Alby we have to leave or were going to get killed. I don't want to lose you and you don't want to lose me. We are going to get out of here and then will be fine. Ok. Please leave with me."

He looked at me then looked around the Glade. A group of boys stood by the Homestead. They must be prepared for leave.

As I was watching arms wrapped around my waist and I was pulled against Alby. He buried his face in my hair and signed.

"Fine I'll leave with you."

We stood at the entrance to the maze. The sky was beginning to grow dark and it was about time to leave. I was given a machete and a dagger was in my belt. Alby stood next to hold a spear in one hand and my hand in the other.

The Gladers who wanted to leave stood in the group at the entrance and the ones who wanted to stay were in the Homestead.

I was ready to leave and get out of this maze. Thomas and Minho stood at the front of the group. I looked up at Alby and squeezed his hand.

"Let's go." Thomas said.

We ran. Out little group made it's way to the cliff lead by Minho and Thomas. I was still holding Alby's hand. Owen was running next to me.

We stopped at the corridor that lead to the Cliff. I stood and tried to catch my breath.

"There's four Grievers blocking the cliff." Thomas said.

"Ok. Here's the plan. We have to get Thomas, Teresa, and Chuck to that hole. What were going to do is charge the Grievers and push them against the walls. Ok?" Minho said.

"The Grievers have to take someone each night. I'll sacrifice myself so you guys can get out." Alby said.

He handed his spear to Newt, kissed my cheek and pushed his way through and turn down the corridor.

I followed him. What? He said he was going to leave with me. He should know that sacrificing himself won't work. We're not going to get out that easily.

"Alby!" I said and grabbed his arm.

He was half the distance to the Grievers. I wondered why they haven't moved yet.

"Alby what are y-"

I was unable to finish the sentence because the Grievers begin to screech and charge towards us.
