I waited for the doors to open. A girl with red hair stood next to me. We stared at the wall and waited for it to open.

Holding my arm was a girl with brown hair. She was nine years old. Is the youngest here in the Glade. She is my best friend. Every morning before I leave to run, she is here to send me off. Her name is Emmy and is one of my best friends.

There was a loud boom and the door slid to the left and revealed the path into the maze. Emmy let go of my arm and wrapped her arms around my waist.

“Be careful.” She said.

“I will. Always am.” I said.

She let go of me and stepped back. Brook the second in command in the Glade, put her arm around Emmy shoulders and smiled at me.

“See you later. Bye Makenna.”

The red haired girl next to me turned around rolling her eyes. She waved her hand at the girls then slapped my shoulder.

“Let’s go.”

We jogged into the maze and down the corridor. On both sides of the walls pointed rods hung. Today no Grievers hung from the rods to watch us. They never attack from that close to the opening. They usually wait until we’re deeper in the maze.

Makenna and I ran along our usually path and took notes on what changed and anything new that showed up. Today the Grievers seem quiet. Good. I don’t feel like dealing with them.

We stopped for lunch at the end of our route. We give ourselves an hour for lunch. We then explore other paths till we have to head back.

We turned left and headed down a path we never explored before. Makenna was behind me as we ran.

“Duck!” She yelled.

I dived to the right and heard a clicking sound go over me. Griever. I sat up and saw it roll into a ball and stopped itself from hitting the wall. Makenna grabbed my arms and pulled me up.

She had a long sharp knife in her hand. I pulled the machete off my back and we backed away from the Griever.

We fought so many Grievers together, we are professionals at this. We’ve ran and fought together for so long. We know each other’s skills and ways of fighting.

Makenna spun to the left as the Griever lunged at her. I swung my machete and jammed it into it’s side. I pulled the machete free and looked over at Makenna. She jammed her knife into it’s side. The Griever swung it’s arm and it connected with my side and send me flying into the wall

The impact took my breath away and I fell to the ground with a thud. I laid on my side and tried to catch my breath. Makenna pulled me up and started dragging me down the way we came.

I stumbled and got my feet under me and started running. The Griever chased us as we got back on our normal route and ran towards the Glade.

I looked back and saw that two Grievers were now chasing us. Makenna was behind me yelling for me to run faster.

We turned on to the path that lead down to the Glade. I almost stopped dead in my tracks. at the end of the corridor was the Glade and a group of people were standing there. Halfway down into the corridor into the maze was Emmy.

“Emmy run!” Makenna screamed.

Emmy looked towards us. Her eyes want all wide and she screamed as she saw the Grievers chasing us. She stood standing in horror at the Grievers.
