Chapter 21-Meeting

Maya's POV

This monster is huge completely huge. How is it so huge? I am so damn short. I just stared at the monster, and it was staring at me. We were having an intensive staring competition.

Very intensive.

Then it let out a scream. God, the pitch level. Guess it got annoyed because I was doing it very well. I didn't let myself just sit there for long and got up and started to run. The monster saw me and started to run behind, but I was faster than it thought it was super-fast. I ran and ran in that lake and then I went into the crowd-wrecked houses. It looked almost like a slum but except for its proper alignment. The roof was completely wrecked so were the walls. I didn't know what to do so I ran endlessly. But eventually, I got tired, so I decided to hide. I broke into one of the houses and looked the door tight shut. I didn't make any sound knowing that these monsters had very good hearing senses. I just sat on the floor with the bag on my lap. Clenching onto it tightly.

For some reason, those monsters looked pretty and that's when the book that I saw in my room crossed my mind. Then what about the spots, I wondered.

I was in the house for so long and didn't get out and was thinking of how to get out so that I can get that emerald. That's when I suddenly heard a loud splash. Must be from the lake I thought I checked outside the window making sure no monsters were outside. The coast was clear.

I got out of the house and hid behind one of them slowly and did not make any single noise. That's when I saw a tall figure. Black jet hair and green eyes. Lucas.

He was looking straight at the monster and was approaching it. The monster just stood alluring its prey. I must stop him. I quickly ran and went towards him and the monster. I was between him and the monster. My heart was beating loud as the monster started coming close towards me. "Maya?" Lucas said. I looked up at him, but he was not looking at me. He was looking at the monster. He started coming close and I didn't know what to do so I decided to push him further away from the monster.

Then he looked down and stood there blank. I looked down as to see what he was seeing. He saw the monster's reflection from where the monster was and then saw mine. He quickly understood what was going on but he was still towards the monster. He went near it and left out a relieving sigh. And I just stood there blank as to what I was supposed to do. The monster just stood not doing anything and then Lucas put his hand on the monster's face. What the hell is he doing? And then he took out his sword and sliced the monster's body. The monster was cut into two pieces. Blood was pouring out from the piece making the lake bloody. Lucas started to pour tears out of his eyes. I wasn't sure of what to do but I did what my heart wanted to do at that instant. I rushed towards him and gave him a hug behind his back.

That's when our barricade broke. "Maya, it's really you right?", Lucas who was completely surprised by the surprise hug and didn't know what to say. "Yes, it's me." He smiled and lifted me and twirled. Then let me down and gave me a big hug. "How are you? Did you get hurt?"

Before I could answer his question there was a roar. Monsters.

I grabbed his hand and ran to the same house I was hiding. I locked the door tight shut. Closed all the windows and covered them with papers that were lying around. I looked at Lucas who was completely confused as to what happened. I spoke in my lowest voice, "Don't worry we are safe here. The monsters are not that good at finding stuff with their eyes, but they have very good hearing senses. So, we must whisper low. Alright." Lucas gave me a silent nod. He got up and started looking around the house searching if there was anything useful for us. He went up to search. I was down looking around at the kitchen. There was nothing that we could eat from the fridge but there were plenty of snacks from the pantry.

Lucas came down with some blankets and pillows. He found them in one of the rooms. He spread the blankets on the floor like a mattress and another blanket on top of it. Making it look like a soft platform. He took out a medical first aid from his bag. And looked at me. "Come here." My heart started to jump. Why I don't know. "Why? What?" "Just come here. I won't go that hard on you." He won't go what now? My mind was jelly. And I didn't know what to do so I went and sat on the blankets. "Also remove your shoes. Don't make it dirty than it already is." I obeyed. "How me your left arm." Why my arm? "Why?" He looked at me with a serious expression. "What do you mean why? Look how much you are bleeding." I looked at my left arm and saw what he meant. I was bleeding a lot. I must have gotten hurt while I was running away from the monsters.

It was very embarrassing when I realized what he meant and what I was thinking. Lucas was very careful while he was attending to my wound. He carefully cleaned it and covered it so neatly. "Thank you", I said after he finished. "Anytime."

It started getting dark, so we decided to rest in this house and leave before the sunrises. Lucas decided to take the first watch while I was going to rest. But I didn't feel sleepy at all. After all this crazy ride that was going on. I didn't feel much sleepy at all. I looked at Lucas who later noticed that I didn't sleep yet.

"Can't sleep?" "Nope. Not even a bit." We were still whispering even though the outside world was very silent. Then I got up and sat on the blankets. I put the pillow on my lap. And tapping on the other side of the blanket. He noticed and sat beside me. "Why did you come?" There was a long silence and then he responded, "Because I can't stop thinking about you." I blushed but I hid it by letting my hair fall across my cheek. I understood what he meant. I didn't want to believe it when I first saw him. When all the things that we went through in camp started to feel familiar. Which led me to remember that boy I met in primary school. I remember what he used to call himself. "You are not a coward. In fact, you were the first person who was very supportive. I was surprised when I first saw you here. I thought it can't be true, but your actions just proved me wrong. I remembered that little boy in my primary school." "No, you are wrong. I was a complete coward who didn't help you out when you were having a hugely hard time when those people were bullying you. The way your parents treated you. I should have stopped it when I was the only one who knew about it." There was another long silence and my anger started to boil up. I put both my hands on his face and hit my head hard on his and looked straight into his eyes. "Can you stop degrading yourself? Do you know how much it meant to me when you were the only one who knew and gave me the courage to fight all the things that were going on? And how could you call yourself a coward when you crossed a whole world for me."

He didn't say anything. I felt his face hot but mine was even hotter. And the posture we both were in. I was so damn close. Lucas came close and gave a peck on my cheek. "Thank you for that amazing speech. Need it at this moment. And I don't want to do it when we are here. I want to do it in our world so don't get so upset." "Someone Is back to normal now. No more sad soap operas." He laughed and later we both slept together. Peacefully.
