"My goodness how long has it been?"

True to her word, mom took me around the town. First to the florist then the dance studio then to the ice cream parlour. We went everywhere, I spoke to everyone and they were all excited that I was home. To finish up our trip we went over to Luke's diner, the moment we entered Luke moved two kids off my usual table then cleared it for us to sit down. Two of the Lexie usual and we enjoy our time there.
The past few days have been amazing. I honestly don't want this to ever end. I decided to take a little walk alone to the spots I remember hiding out in, I just wanted to enjoy these moments.
I bumped into my mothers best friend and we sat on the bench on the town square drinking coffee
"They've missed you so much Lex"
"I've missed them too, I've been too stubborn to come back home though"
"I'm glad your back, maybe now they will stay"
"What you mean?"
"They haven't told you? It's not my place to say"
"No please tell me. This trip has been amazing I don't think my mom wants to ruin it so you tell me"
"They can't afford the house anymore Lex, they've been struggling since your father lost his job"
"How did he lose his job?"
"After his accident, they couldn't keep him in on anymore"
"What?! Accident?"
"He fell of a ladder and broke his leg and arm, it's never really healed properly. Your mother has tried taking on extra shifts but they still can't afford to keep up with the payments on the house"
"Why haven't they called me?"
"You left Lexie, they couldn't call you"
"But I can pay off the house I can help them"
"You know your father he wouldn't take money off you"
"He's not going to have a choice, I'll see you later Suki I've got something I need to do"
I walk over to the only bank in the town, the bank that loaned my parents the money to buy our home. I sit in a room with the man and I tell him I want to pay off their mortgage. After a few hours of going through the final details. It's done. Their loan is paid off. I have the receipt off the bank, I make another transfer of $500,000 dollars into my parents account and then make my way back home.
My parents are sitting at the table when I walk in
"You've been gone hours Lexie, what have you been doing?"
"Why didn't you tell me you were struggling?"
"What?"
"Why didn't you tell me that your going to sell the house"
"Lexie this has been an amazing time and we didn't want to ruin our time together"
"I'm your daughter and I can help you"
"No Lexie it's fine"
"It's not fine dad it's not fine at all. Your struggling and I'm wasting money on alcohol and drugs when you need me"
"Drugs?"
"Yeah mom I've also been falling apart, nearly died of an overdose and not doing really well. So we are all keeping our dark secrets hidden"
"We are sorry we hid this from you Lexie we are"
"It's done now, i knew if i spoke to you about it then you wouldn't go for it so here" I hand my mother the paper work and receipts
"What have you done?"
"I've paid the loan on your home. You now officially 100% own it. No more payments. I've also transferred $500,000 in to your joint account to help you. I don't want no arguments nothing it's done and nothing will take it back so you have to deal with it"
They don't say a word, then my father stands up. He takes me in his arms and just says "thank you" that's all that was needed to be said and we said nothing more about it. These were my parents and if my money was being spent on anyone it would be spent on them.
Tonight's my last night here, I have to get back to the house. I've made the decision to put the house up for lease and move closer to my parents, not too close but close enough that it won't take my hours to see them. It was just going back to tell Jase. Hoping he won't hate me for this decision.
You spend the evening watching movies with your parents and snacking on junk food, it's nice to know that now they are actually relaxed and happy and there is no more secrets between us.
As I lay in bed my phone vibrates so I pick it up
Rob: when are you back home?
Lexie: tomorrow I head back.
Rob: good, I feel like I haven't seen you in forever
Lexie: well it's going to feel like that soon. I'm coming back to set up the house to lease it out
Rob: your moving
Lexie: yeah, I don't need that massive house just for me and Jase. I just need to tell him
Rob: where are you going to go?
Lexie: Greenwich New York, I've found the cutest little place and it's only an hour away from my parents
Rob:I have a house in Greenwich, maybe it won't be goodbye forever
Lexie: yay! I was actually sad at the thought the only time I'd see you is in movies
Rob: watch all my films?
Lexie: yep, loads of times
Rob: can't stop watching me huh?
Lexie: have you seen you? I mean wow!
Rob: why thank you! Your pretty good to look at as well
Lexie: oh I know 😂
Rob: coffee tomorrow night in the garden?
Lexie: will Susan mind?
Rob: she's not here
Lexie: is she ever there?
Rob: hardly, can't remember a time we actually talked like we do
Lexie: well I'll be home around 5ish so by the time I talk to Jase how about we meet outside around 9?
Rob: looking forward too it, I'll bring the coffee.
Lexie: See you tomorrow Iron man
Rob: see you tomorrow Miss Potts
Okay don't read into that Lexie! Yes Miss Potts is his love interest but he's only being nice! Or was it flirty!! I don't know.
