We were doing just great in Diagon Alley. Us wizards got our new books and new fitting robes. Well, Hermione, Harry and I, anyway. Ronnie got Fred and George's old robes. Poor blote.

The demigods weren't really comfortable in robes and pointed hats. Dumbledore had said they didn't need to wear them. But we did get them everything else, like the dragon hide gloves.

Mum said we'd take them shopping at a regular store to get more clothes (the only clothing they packed were orange or purple tee-shirts and jeans).

They'd also gotten a cauldron each, their own books, a crystal phial, a telescope, and a set of brass scales.

Harry reminded us they needed an owl, cat, or toad to take to school. Like i said, everything was going great-right up until we saw Malfoy in the Wizard Pet Shop.

"How sweet," Draco said once we entered. "Weasel, Potter, and the Mudblood are here with their pathetic little friends."

Leo laughed harshly and tightened his grip on his sword hilt. "Did he just call me pathetic? I know he didn't do that."

"There's no call for that kind of language, Mr. Malfoy," the woman behind the counter said. "No Mudblood talk. If you're going to pick a fight, pay for your cat now before I kick you out."

"Kick?" Coach Hedge said. "Who do I need to kick?"

"Who's that?" Percy asked me.

"Draco Malfoy," I answered. "A demon in a kid's body. He's a Slytherin that's always had it in for Harry, which means he also had it in for us Weasleys and Hermione."

Malfoy scooped up his new cat-an ugly looking thing. It was a muddy brown color with one yellow eye and one green one. Hazel yelped when she saw it. "Is that thing actually a cat?" she whispered to us.

We didn't answer. Ron asked Malfoy, "What happened to your owl, Malfoy? Kill it?"

Draco snickered. "You wish, Weasel. He dropped out when he hit some blote's rooftop."

"Good." Ron grinned. Malfoy and his mother left, but not before Draco bumped into Percy and made him drop all his things.

"Oops," Draco said.

Thunder crackled outside. Percy reached for his pen and clicked it. "Jason, stop it," Piper said, looking outside. "You're calling the lightning again. It's creepy."

"Put that away from my son!" Narcissa Malfoy said to Percy. "I demand it!" Percy rolled his eyes and his sword turned back to a pen.

"Whatever you mutants are, you're weird," Draco said. "I don't know what you are or what you're doing, but I'm going to find out what it is."

"We're demigods," Annabeth said through gritted teeth. "One of our parent is a god. My mother is the goddess of war. If you know what's good for you, you'll take Mommy and get out of here. I'm not afraid of blood."

Narcissa gasped in horror and steered Draco out. He shot us a look of loathing and walked away.

"That's right! Run off now!" Hedge called. "Cause I'll-I'll bump you back, buddy!"

"Well," Mum said, "you lot certainly know how to handle your problems."

They looked around the pet shop. Once we reached the owl exhibit, every single owl hooted and flew to Annabeth. She reached her hand into the cage and pet them.

"Mom's symbol is the owl," she said. "Sue me."

Annabeth ended up picking a Little Owl. She was small but cute, with yellow eyes and brown-and-white feathers. Annabeth cradled her in her hands, and the owl nuzzled up against her. I'd never seen that befor
