I had no idea how we had gotten into this mess but I blamed Hendrix. It was always that idiot.
Hendrix and I stood facing each other, each of us glancing over the other's shoulder. We'd slipped outside instead of going to our scheduled group therapy—sitting around listening to everyone's problems wasn't exactly appealing. But the moment we escaped, we walked straight into an ambush.
Or so they thought.
Behind Hendrix, a ring of boys and girls surrounded us, all dressed in black like they were trying to look intimidating. I couldn't help but laugh internally at the effort.
"What now?" Hendrix muttered, eyes fixed on them.
No one answered. They just glared, frozen in place. I caught a glimpse of Hendrix out of the corner of my eye—his barely hidden smile gave him away. He wanted a fight. He always did. And honestly, I wasn't opposed to it either.
One of them began talking. His voice was deep and threatening yet neither of us paid attention to him as we blocked out his words. I kept my eyes on Hendrix, silently piecing together a way out. He smirked slightly, giving a disguised nod.
"You shouldn't have interfered in her life. Let alone messed with her," the guy finished, his last sentence finally breaking through to me.
"Always that bitch." Hendrix scoffed.
Before I could react, the guy behind Hendrix lunged. I heard footsteps behind me—someone was coming for me too.
Hendrix and I locked eyes for a split second, then dropped at the same time, letting the two attackers slam straight into each other. They stumbled back, clutching their heads with pained groans.
Serves them right.
The rest of the group surged toward us, rage written all over their faces.
Hendrix and I shared a quick, excited grin.
And then everything exploded into chaos.
Hendrix whipped around like a bullet train, fist flying and making impact before one could blink. Another backed up at the quick jab, knocking into another in their haste as Hendrix grinned wickedly at them.
A blonde ponytail girl came forward, aiming a kick at his leg -he simply jumped over as if it were parkour, hand closing around her hair and yanking enough to send her to the floor. He grabbed the head of another male advancing on his other end and only laughed as he smashed it with another guy's.
Utter maniac if he wasn't adorable.
Meanwhile, I pivoted, leg arching through the air as it struck the abdomen of an older guy, sending him flying back into the bushes. The pointy end of my cat heel missed a girl's face by an inch and she back up as if gathering momentum before flying forward. Her arms tensed to loop around my hips and I slide to the side, letting her streak past me. Just before she cleared my sight, I struck out with my foot out, catching her at the last second. I didn't turn to watch her fall as another met the same fate on my other end..
