Happy Birthday

'What happened?' Techno stares at me whilst I lay the gown over him.

I tried to move him closer to the fire, but he's heavier than you'd think. His skin felt so cold already that I thought it was too late.

'You're alive!' I scream, but because of my dry throat, it sounds more like a dying animal.

'You can't get rid of me that easily, Wil.' He smiles at me, which makes me more at ease and I'm even able to let out a laugh.

'We did it. He lost his powers and Fundy took him away, I'm not sure where to, but-' After hearing Techno grunt whilst failing to sit up, I stop rambling.

It isn't over just yet, unlike I had hoped.

I place my hand on his wound to give his powers back. My hand heats up, but as much as I try to find the block on Techno's powers, I can't. It seems gone, although I remember placing it there just a few hours ago.

'I- I can't.' I search around frantically whilst blinking away my tears. All I find is Techno's wound, covering up his powers.

Techno grabs ahold of my wrist. 'Wilbur stop it. You're burning yourself.'

I hadn't even noticed the pain in my hand, it's creeping from my hand towards my arm, until it one day hopes to consume me.

'Don't. I don't want them back.' He stares at me and I glance at him before quickly looking away.

'Why not?' I let my powers calm down after which my hand stings even more.

'Immortality is a curse, not a blessing. I've already died once and whether or not I die now or in a hundred years, I can't die more than twice.' He sits up slowly and laughs away his visible pain. 'I don't understand how Phil does it, but he's a lot better at staying sane than I am.'

---

I stare at the fire whilst looking over at Techno every once in a while. He stumbled towards the opening of the cave and is staring into the forest. He isn't standing upright anymore like last time.

Instead, he's leaning against the wall and accepting his fate. Whatever that may be. He tried to rest his back against the wall, but jolted away and hissed from the pain. I haven't seen much of his back, but I'm pretty sure it has completely gone to shreds.

I wanted to find Niki, but Techno doesn't let me leave. He's right though, I'd probably freeze to death if I don't stay near the fire.

But then again, Techno isn't by the fire and he's just as mortal as me right now.

'Wil, come here for a second.' Techno gestures me to go to him whilst looking in the distance of the pitch-black forest.

I stumble towards him whilst holding onto a self-made torch from a piece of wood I found. Maybe I should move the campfire to Techno if he continues to refuse to sit near it. Surely he also feels the stinging cold.

'Look.' He points at the sky and I follow his gaze.

I watch snowflakes fall onto my stretched out hands and I sigh.

'Happy birthday, Wilbur.'

---

I walk back towards the campfire to take more self-made torches and bring them to Techno.

'Wilbur?' As I turn back to look at Techno, his eyes widen until they're bigger than I've ever seen. He's still staring my way but seems to be looking straight through me.

My entire body tingles and I glance down to see myself become less visible by the second until I've disappeared completely.

Tommy-

My legs give in and I fall to the floor. I watch Techno scramble to get up and catch me, after which I lay, trembling, in his bleeding arms.

Techno's soothing whispers seem distant and the world gets blurry.

The forest turns dark and I take a sharp breath. This- this is a nightmare.

Like- literally. I didn't go to sleep, right?

I hear a voice from the clouds above me, Fundy's voice. 'It's okay Wilbur, I'm coming. Just relax. Sleep.'

The voice fades and takes the light with him, leaving me to drown in the darkness.

At least it takes away the growing ache in my every vein.

---

'Technoblade!' The light gets shoved back towards me as Fundy runs towards us.

I still feel numb, but I'm not sure if it's from the nightmare or-

Or what? What happened again?

Techno has his hands wrapped around me and I notice a bloodstain in my clothes from Techno's bleeding arm.

'What- what happened?' I try to sit up, but Techno restricts me from moving.

'Fundy what the hell was that explosion?'

Fundy lowers his head. 'That- that was L'Manburg.' He rubs his hand across his neck before glancing at me. 'You're invisible again!'

I look down at my hands to see they've indeed disappeared.

I place my hand against my stomach whilst shaking Techno's arms off of my shoulders. My hand eats up and I feel Tommy's powers hiding inside my stomach.

Why would they leave Tommy?

The world seems distant as I try to remember what happened before the nightmare. A voice yells out my name in the distance, but since I'm floating amongst the stars with Tommy, I can only look down at the wreck of a body that is responding to the name.

Tommy is the brightest star of them all, as he's always been. This time he's further away from me, instead of being able to reach out my hands and touch him, he floats away further until reaching a place where I will never be able to find him again.

A man with black wings walks towards my numb body with a child in his arms.

Techno's hand on my back takes me back to reality and he helps me stand up.

Phil opens his wings to reveal Tommy's lifeless body laying limb in his arms. He has burn marks covering his entire body and clearly a broken wrist, judging from the bone tearing through his skin to get some air.

'Tommy?' Phil shakes Tommy lightly as if it would wake him. 'Tommy wake up, we're here.'

I take a step towards Phil and lay my hand against Tommy's cheek carefully.

I'm scared to touch him. Scared that he will turn to dust and fly away with the wind. 'Tommy it's me, Wilby.' I run my trembling fingers through his hair. 'It's okay, I'm here. Wake up Tommy, you're okay.'

I glance at Techno, who's just staring at Tommy, before looking back at Tommy.

His face is getting paler by the second, or maybe that's just the light leaving his once joyful body.

'Wake up, please-'
