Cam is a normal girl. Normal parents. Normal siblings. Normal house. She always thought of herself as an average person. Nothing that sticks out about her.
Cam's 16. She has her license and her own car. She got it for her 16th birthday from her parents, which was amazing because they're not that wealthy. Not poor but not rich, either.
As Cam walked out of the shower and into her room, she heard the front door slam shut.
"Mom?" She called out. "Are you home?"
She grabbed the clothes she set out before her shower, a long sleeved black shirt with the words 'Beauty in Every Shade' in different skin tones, ripped jeans, and a white beanie. She pulled the shirt over her head and heard someone running up the stairs. She quickly put on her jeans, thinking they were coming to her room.
"Mom?" She said again.
"Yes?" She heard from her mother's room.
Cam walked out of her room to speak with her mother. "I thought you would be at work until 11 tonight?"
"I am but I had some time to kill so I thought I would come home and pack"
"Pack?"
"For the wedding on Saturday. Don't tell me you forgot!"
"No! I just-" The door slammed shut again. "Samantha?!" Cam's father's voice boomed from downstairs. "Hurry up! We have 5 minutes!"
"You're on a time crunch?" Cam asked, raising an eyebrow.
" Um.. sorta.." Her mom threw her suitcase aside, "Coming Tom! Pack your bag. We leave tomorrow night"
"But I have a party. I thought we talked about this. We decided I wasn't going to go, remember?"
"Honey, your sister will be all alone without you there. She's only 10 with no cousins her age. Please be there? There will be other parties.."
"I'm sorry about Melissa but the girl I like will be there and I begged Vivian to come with me. She never goes to parties and if she doesn't come to this one she will never go to another one. I can't bail on this, mom!"
"But nobody else will be here with you.."
"I'll stay with Vivian. It's fine. I promise"
Her mom hesitated. "Please mom"
"Ok" she replied. "Just don't drink too much. I can't stop you from drinking so just don't overdo it. I'm trusting you on this Cam."
"Sam!" Tom called again.
"Coming!" Cam's mom turned around and called over her shoulder, "Bye Sweetheart! See you tomorrow!"
"Bye!" She responded than turned around and grabbed her phone to text Vivian.
"Shit. Shit. Shit" she mumbled to herself and her fingers tapped rapidly across her phone screen. She clicked send. Can I stay at your house on Friday? Forgot I would be alone here. Mom would kill me if I stayed here alone :/
She pulled her beanie over her long, straight, black hair, grabbed her bag, keys and phone. As she walked down the stairs her phone buzzed.
Of course. My mom likes you lol
Yes! She thanked Vivian and opened the door to reveal her front lawn. A cobblestone walkway leading to the garage. Flower beds along her house. And vibrant green grass with the perfect amount of sun. She walked to her car and drove to Starbucks, ordered a grande carmel frappuccino to go, and walked to the library across the street. She checked out a good romance book about to girls who's parents didn't support them so they run away to California. She sat down at a table by a window with a beautiful rose garden outside and read her book. She was so excited for the party that this was her only way to calm down. Brianna was going to be there and she couldn't make a bad impression. That would be like suicide....
