Chapter 12

"Cam can what?!" Shawn's angry voice said from behind her.

"She can talk!" Daniel said.

"Prove it" Shawn glared at Cam. She didn't say anything. She couldn't. She was frozen in fear and physically couldn't open her mouth.

"Well?" Shawn said. They were both staring at Cam and Rebecca walked into the room to see what was happening.

"She can't talk. She used her text to speaking app thing" Rebecca said. Cam nodded.

"I didn't ask you" Shawn's head whipped around to face Rebecca.

"I know" She walked over to Cam and grabbed her wrist. "but you can't treat her like this because she can't talk" Rebecca lead Cam out of the room and took her outside. "Get in the car" she said.

"You don't have the keys, though" Cam said with her hand on the handle. Rebecca held up a car key and pressed the unlock button. The car beeped and they got in. Shawn and Daniel came running out of the house, yelling and swearing at Cam.

"What the hell are you doing?! Get back her right now!" They yelled as Rebecca backed out of the driveway.

"You can drive right?" Rebecca asked.

"Yea... You can too I assume.."

"Obviously. But my license is at my house. That's where we're going"

"For only a little bit right? Like we can hit your house, you can get dressed, go to my house for some of my stuff and to assure my parents that I'm ok and then you'll bring me back? Right?"

Rebecca paused. "You want to go back there?" She said slowly.

"No! I mean.. well my home life is irritating and with Shawn and Daniel life is easy. You know?"

"Um no! No I don't understand, they treat you like shit and you don't want out?"

"I've only been there for a few days! I should stay and see if it gets better, right?"

"And when it gets worse?!"

"When? Not 'if'? Really? You think that poorly of Shawn?"

"What's that bump on your head from?"

"Oh Shawn pushed me into the shower handle when he hit me but it's fine now. It doesn't hurt that bad"

"That hit did something to your brain if you think that hitting you, pushing you, and overall hurting you is ok! I mean, you're afraid to speak because of what he might do to you!"

"But my mom never wants me to go to parties, she always judges me and she never hypes me up when I wear a cute outfit! Shawn WILL!"

"You make him sound like a knight in shining armor and he is so not!"

"He's not the knight but he's not the dragon either! Just go to your house. I'll drive myself back!"

Rebecca went quiet. "Do.. do you actually want to stay there?"

Cam sat up straighter. "Yes. I don't want to go home"

"But... Why?"

"I told you. Life at my house is no picnic and I know that life with Shawn will be nicer"

"You don't know that though. He's Daniel dad. From what I gathered, you hate Daniel"

"Yes but Shawn will protect me from him. I just know it"

"Is there anything I can say that will change your mind?"

Yes. You could say that life would be better with you and I could stay at your house and we would fall in love and be together forever. But you won't say that. I know you won't..

"No. There isn't" Cam looked out the window until they got to Rebecca's house and they got out. Cam got into the driver's seat and started driving back to Shawn's house. Was Rebecca right? Should she not go back? But she liked Shawn and spending time with him. Yea he hit her a few times but she could get used to that.. right?
