Slash
I watch Axl as he scarfs down his food. "Damn. When you said you were hungry I didn't think you meant this hungry." I say, taking a sip of my milkshake. "Fuck off." Axl complains, his mouth full of food. I reach over and steal a fry off his plate. "Hey." he complains, grabbing my milkshake. "That's not fair! I just took a fry." I say, trying to grab my shake back. Axl wags his finger at me and takes a long sip of my drink. Half of it's gone when he hands it back. "Fucker." I mumble, sipping my drink. Axl smiles at me, taking his burger and shoving it in his mouth again. I hold back a laugh as I set my drink down, to pick up my grilled cheese. We eat in silence, rock music playing softly in the background. "Do you have 50 cents?" Axl asks, once he's done with his food. "Why?" I ask, chewing on my grilled cheese. "I wanna play something on the jukebox." he replies, reaching out towards me. I sigh, searching through my pocket. I pull out two quarters and place them into Axl's awaiting palm. His fingers curl around it, smiling brightly. "Thank you, Slasheroonie." he says, scooting out of his chair. Axl walks to the jukebox, and searches through the list of songs. He puts a quarter in and plays a song. The jukebox clicks and Welcome To The Jungle, one of our most popular songs, comes on. I recognized the guitar immediately. The first time I tried to play it, my fingers bled and blistered for days. Axl looks over at me and smiles wide. I never expected it to get into the jukebox so soon. I remember hearing it on the radio for the first time. How amazing it was. It felt like the first time I got high. The feeling of being able to fly. Fly and see everything around you. It almost seems beautiful. Obviously the feeling didn't last but when it did it was riveting. Axl was driving me and Steven to rehearsal one day and he was playing the radio. It was one of his favorite stations, even though it never played any of the stuff I liked. Steven was singing along to a Def Leppard song or something, when the broadcaster announced that they were playing a "never before heard on the radio" song. Suddenly Welcome To The Jungle plays and we lost our minds. We nearly crashed into the car next to us, as we blasted the song. We cheered loudly, and sang along. Even after the song was over we were high with energy and excitement. We told everyone, when we got to the studio, and celebrated with booze and drugs. I smiled brightly remembering that day. Axl dances by the jukebox, swaying his hips from the side to side. A waitress tries to join him, showing her interest in my crazy band mate. It was like watching one of the nature documentaries on animals trying to mate. Axl was obviously not into her but she didn't seem to notice. Her boss yelled at her and she mumbled as she got back to work. Axl smiles, tapping his booted foot on the floor. I follow along with me and Izzy's playing, creating an air guitar. Axl laughed when he saw me. The song starts to end when I'm done with my food. I wipe my fingers on a napkin and rub it gently against my lips. Axl appears in front of me, his smile small. "What do you want?" I ask, setting my napkin on my empty plate. "Can you come up here and help me choose a song?" he asks, grabbing onto my hand again. This time we both stare down at our hands. Axl blushes as he pulls me out of the chair. I follow him to the jukebox. He starts to flip through the selection. He finds a song, covering the glass with his arm. "Hey, what did you pick?" I ask, as the jukebox clicks again and Is This Love by Whitesnake starts to play. I smile, noticing Axl's embarrassment. "What? You embarrassed to like Whitesnake?" I ask, poking Axl's side. He slaps my hand, before grabbing it again. He sets my hand on his hip, taking my other hand and doing the same. He rests his hands on my shoulders. He looks up and meets my eyes. There's something almost innocent in his gaze. He gently sways to the beat, trying to move me along with him. My body feels stiff but numb. I don't move, I just feel his hips swaying against my fingers. Axl smiles smally, his fingers gently curling through my hair. He moves closer and rests his head on my chest. He continues to sway, humming the song. I can feel his hums vibrate through my chest, making my heart pick up speed. He looks up to me, his green eyes soft and gentle, not as electric and wild as they usually are. I smile softly, finally noticing the others in the diner. Most of them stare at us, their mouths hanging open. Others whisper to each other or laugh. I cringe slightly, pushing Axl away from my chest. "We gotta go Ax." I say, pulling Axl out of his trans. He blushed wildly and quickly rushes out of the diner. I go back to our table, gathering our belongings and paying our waitress. I run out, searching for Axl.
