The next day Harry is nowhere to be found. After checking literally every available space, Louis has to admit that he's probably in the Hufflepuff dorm and that's off-limits for a Slytherin on his own. So he's left with nothing but the wait.
He meets McGonagall for his detention work and he must seem unusually uneasy because she seems concerned. She asks him what's happening in his head like he's supposed to believe that the one who kept him from reuniting with his family this year is truly concerned with his wellbeing. He dodges the question but there is something else he wants to know.
-What is the process of choosing prefects? - he asks to her surprise.
-Why does it concern you, Tomlinson? I'm sorry to say so but you're two years too late – she points out like he ever had any chances of becoming one. He rolls his eyes when she doesn't look.
-I'm just curious.
-Well then. Prefects are supposed to be role models for the rest of you. We choose bright, polite, well-behaved students whom we know we can trust. They are given a great power after all. They are being chosen in fifth grade and they stay on this position to the end of their academic time – she informs him. - Is there a particular reason why you ask about this?
-I uhmm... I met one the other day but he's not very self-confident. Harry Styles? - he says, not knowing if it's really a question but the headmaster seems to pick up the subject.
-Ah yes, the Hufflepuff prefect. Truly the best we could ever hope for. Of course, you cannot repeat that to other students because Liam Payne tries really hard for the number one position but Harry is just a natural – she says with a glad smile and then studies him suspiciously for a second. - Are you going to get him in trouble?
-No, ma'am – Louis wants to snort but he stops himself. It probably wouldn't be the best behaviour in front of the headmaster and he's trying to prove a point, isn't he? - You should have more faith in your students, you know? Even the worst ones like me.
-You're not bad at all, Tomlinson – she states and Louis' head shots up at that. - You're a sensitive kid and a talented wizard. I prefer to think it's the hormones that make you act the way that you do sometimes. But you do have a lot of potential and may I just say, someone like Harry Styles might help you ascend the right path.
Louis doesn't know if he should refer to it somehow or thank her so he does neither. He just nods and gets back to the paper work he's helping her with. He'll have time to think of her words later.

It's seven in the evening when he sees a lightening ball entering his dorm room. He's buried deep in a big armchair in the common room and wrapped up in two blankets. He's holding a book but he wasn't really paying attention to the words he was reading, drowned in thoughts of his family and how Christmas will look like spent with his professors. He doesn't know how it's possible for the ball to fly through walls but he won't question it. Magic is magic. He also doesn't have time. The ball means that Harry wants to meet him and this magic thing will take him to the boy so he quickly puts on missing clothes and he drags his coat along in case they escape the castle. He rushes out of the dorm but then the lightening ball disappears. Louis feels the immediate shock at that but then he sees Harry standing there in front of him in this dark underground hall.
-What are you doing in the dungeon? - he asks surprised.
-Am I not welcome? - deep voice asks back.
-Of course you are, don't be silly – Louis takes a few steps in his direction. - You're always welcome. I was worried about you. What were you doing all day? I don't want you to be sad.
-I was... I was in bed. I sometimes get sad and there's nothing neither me or you can do about it. Can you accept that? - Harry asks trustingly, his eyes wide and staring. He shows another part of his soul right now, the little dark and hurt bit, and Louis would be stupid not to appreciate that. Harry looks like he feels guilty about being sad and Louis wants to hug him out of it. He must make him know that it's okay and he's valid, along with any feels he might have.
-I can – Louis nods after a moment. He knows that's serious and he's not going to mess it up. If Harry needs some moments for himself, he can get as many as he wants. Even if Louis wants to make him happy and laughing every second of every day.
-Okay – Harry starts walking in Louis' direction and when he passes him, he takes his hand but he doesn't stop. He just keeps going, leading Louis in an unknown direction. The Slytherin doesn't protest but he's curious.
-Where are we going?
-Let's go to Hogsmeade. I wanna have some fun – he announces with a devilish smile and Louis already knows it's going to be a great night.
