Chapter 5: A Good Dose of Reality

Soon, Petey, Maddie, and Lil' Petey made it to Petey's lab. They were in the laboratory room. "So, this is the room where we'll build our robots," Petey said. "Our bedrooms are up here."

Petey took Maddie and Lil' Petey. "This is my room," Petey said, pointing to a red door with his name on it before opening the sky blue door with the word "kid" on it. "And this is Lil' Petey's room?"

"Where's my room, Petey?" Maddie asked.

"Well, I didn't think I'd be having you live with me," Petey said. "I do have one room, but it's empty. You might have to sleep with me if that's okay."

"Sure, I don't mind," Maddie said. Her face was red from blushing. She was gonna be sleeping with her crush. It was a dream come true.

"I'm not sleeping in here," Lil' Petey told Petey. "I'm sleeping with you and Maddie."

"No, you're not," Petey said.

"Yes, I am," Lil' Petey argued.

"No, you're not."

"Yes I am."

"No you're not."

"Yes I am."

"No you're not!"

"Yes I am!"

"Blub bla bloob!"

Petey and Lil' Petey argued over how Lil' Petey could sleep in Petey's bed or not as Petey and Maddie were getting him ready for bed. Petey picked up Lil' Petey and placed him in his bed.

"You're sleeping in here and that's final!" Petey said. Petey stared at Lil' Petey, as Maddie walked over with a chair and a purple book.

Maddie sat  down and began to read the book as Petey stood next to her. "Okay, Chapter 1:", Maddie started when she and Petey heard Lil' Petey whisper something.

"No, I'm not," Lil' Petey whispered.

Petey swiped the book out of Maddie's hands and said to Lil' Petey, "Alright, fine! If you're gonna act like that, then no bedtime story for you!"

"Petey, I think you're being a bit strict," Maddie said.

Petey looked at Maddie and Lil' Petey. "Hey, Papa, how come Dog Man and 80-HD can't live with us as well?" Lil' Petey asked.

"Because they can't," Petey answered.

"Why?" Lil' Petey asked his usual question.

"Because it just wouldn't work out!"

"Why?"

"Because Maddie and I are smart and they're a couple of boneheads."

"Why?"

"Would you cut that out?"

"Why?"

"Because we're having a serious conversation!"

"Why?"

"I don't know, you started it!"

"Why?"

"Because you don't realize how good you got it!"

"Because you got a Papa and a Mother who loves you!"

"You do?" Lil' Petey asked.

"Well, duh!" Petey pointed out. He got more calm and started to tell Lil' Petey, "Look, kid, I'm trying to be good to you. I wanna give you what I never had."

"When I was a kid, my Papa didn't care about me at all," Petey told Lil' Petey. "He took off and left my mom and me all alone."

"He did?" Lil' Petey asked.

"I never met Petey's Papa before," Maddie told Lil' Petey. "When I left the Critter Scout, it was after he left, so I only knew Petey and his mom."

"Yes, and I never saw him again," Petey said with a sad look. Lil' Petey felt sorry for his Papa.

"Hey, I know," Lil' Petey said, getting an idea. "Let's find him!"

"Are you crazy? I never wanna see that guy again," Petey said.

"But maybe he's changed, Papa," Lil' Petey said. "Maybe he's changed."

"From what you told me, he seemed like a bad person," Maddie said. "But maybe Lil' Petey's right. Maybe he feels sorry for what he had done. After all, you know what my grandma says, to forgive and to forget."

"Look, I know you two think that everybody is a good guy deep down inside," Petey started. "But that's just not reality. The real world is filled with losers and bullies. The real world is a horrible place. It's mostly misery and selfishness out there.  That's REALITY."

"I'm sorry, kid. I'm just trying to protect you. You and Maddie both. Now go to sleep." Petey and Maddie hugged Lil' Petey.

"G'night, Papa, G'night, Maddie," Lil' Petey as Petey and Maddie placed him back into bed before then calling out. "Good night, Dog Man and 80-HD!"

Petey walked over to the window, followed by Maddie in curiosity. They both peeked out and saw Dog Man and 80-HD sitting by the lab. Petey and Maddie walked downstairs and outside, confronting Dog Man and 80-HD.

"What's the big idea?" Petey asked, causing Dog Man and 80-HD to jump from being startled. "I thought I told you guys to let go!"

"Hi, fellas!" Lil' Petey greeted from the window.

"You get back into bed right now!" Petey said. No one could see Lil' Petey in the window, meaning that he went to sleep.

Dog Man walked over to Maddie and started to whimper. Maddie felt a bit bad for him. "I know, Dog Man," she told him. "I wish there was something we could do."

That was when Maddie had an idea. She whispered into Petey's ear. "Alright, listen up, you two," Petey started. "Maybe  we can work something out."

"What if me and Lil' Petey stay with Petey during the week, and we stay with you guys during the weekends?" Maddie suggested. This made Dog Man and 80-HD smile with happiness.

"I mean, we could just...uh.." Petey was about to say when he then saw Dog Man and 80-HD jumping towards him and Maddie. "NO, WAIT!"

Dog Man and 80-HD hugged, licked, and jumped while holding Petey and Maddie's hands. Maddie didn't mind the celebration Dog Man and 80-HD were bringing her and Petey into, but Petey was getting fed up.

"Enough!" Petey shouted, causing Dog Man and 80-HD to stop. Dog Man and 80-HD then hurried home with smiles as Petey shouted. "Now get out of here before I change my mind!"

"Oh, Petey," Maddie said, patting Petey on the head. "Can you really blame them? Sometimes you gotta take a chill pill."

"How can you live with those kind of things, especially the licking?" Petey asked. "Don't you ever get tired of it?"

"Not really," Maddie replied. "Dog Man's part dog. He's just doing what comes natural. I can't be mad at him for being himself."

"Whatever." Petey and Maddie walked back into the lab. They walked upstairs and checked on Lil' Petey. He wasn't in his bed. Petey saw that his door and peeked again.

Petey saw that Lil' Petey was sleeping in his bed. He had a stern look, but his expression changed, deciding not to move Lil' Petey from his bed. Petey's bed was big enough for Maddie, Petey, and Lil' Petey to sleep in. Petey and Maddie climbed into bed, with Maddie sleeping by Lil' Petey, and Petey sleeping on the other side.

The three slept, like a family.
