Morning came sooner than I wanted to. I thought about what happened last night, and it just made me worry about what would happen tonight.
Not knowing what else to do since it was pretty early, I stared at the alarm clock, it was still 7 AM, December 17, 2017.
After a few seconds of staring at the alarm, I noticed there was chirping outside of our window. There were two turtle doves perched on a tree branch. When I got closer to the window, one of them immediately left, but the other just stayed in place.
It didn't fly away, the turtle dove just strangely looked like it was staring at me.
"Morning Love, what are you looking at?" I turned around and saw that Lucas just got out of bed.
"Oh, there's this-'' The turtle dove was gone the second I looked back. I didn't even hear it fly away.
"What is it?" Lucas said, still a bit groggy from waking up.
"There was a turtle dove just now, but it just... flew away when you woke up."
"Oh, were there two?"
"Y-yeah, well, anyway we should head down and help make breakfast."
We both went to the kitchen where mom and dad already were. As I was helping, I still couldn't shake off what happened last night, and with what happened this morning with the turtle dove.
Everything's starting to become weird and I can't help feeling anxious. But, I have to keep going and stay calm. I don't want my parents to worry, especially my little Devin and Lucas.
Everything's been like a dream and I don't want it to end.
...
"So, I left some snacks that Devin really likes on the top shelf in the kitchen. If he wants to read some books there are some in his bag in his room, what else? Oh, don't let him sleep too late and-"
"Finnegan, dear, we know how to take care of little Devin. We took care of you, didn't we?" Mom stopped me, as she reassured me with a warm smile and soft chuckle,
"Yeah, ok. Well, thanks again. We'll be home right away."
"Don't worry Finn! Devin and I are gonna have lots of fun! Isn't that right Devin?" Dad shouted as he was carrying Devin on his shoulders.
"Have fun Daddy Finn and Daddy Lucas!" The little one shouted as he laughed and played along with dad.
"Okay, just call us if-"
"Bye Finn, have a nice dinner with Lucas." Mom said with a smirk, and gave me a wink right before closing the door.
I still couldn't help but feel bad and anxious. I trust my parents, but I think this is just a personal problem that I have.
"Shall we go now?" I heard Lucas say from behind.
I turned around, and I couldn't help but feel my cheeks warm when I saw him.
"Well, aren't you dashing?" I said jokingly. We both, coincidentally, wore the same outfit of plaid pants, turtleneck sweater, scarf, and gloves, but in different colors.
"Am I? Well, I think you're quite handsome as well, my Love." He said as he sauntered over to take my hand and give it a kiss.
"I can't handle this man." Was what I thought when I couldn't stop blushing.
"O-okay, Love, w-well, we have dinner to get to. So, let's get going." He just chuckled as I quickly went inside the car.
...
The night went on smoother than I thought. Lucas took me to a really fancy restaurant, we had delicious food, maybe that's why he said to dress our best.
We drove around the city, took photos of tourist spots, had a bit of snacks from the vendors, and overall we had a great time.
Before going back, we went to the giant Christmas tree that was in the central park of the city. The tree was gigantic and it was filled with a lot of decorations and ornaments.
"Hey Love, what about one last photo before we go?" Lucas said, but strangely enough, I couldn't help but feel sad that the night is about to end.
"Love, why are you sad?" He asked as he cupped my cheeks with his hands.
"Well, it's just that... This night has been so great, and- and- I don't want it to end. Not yet." Throughout the night, I didn't hear the thumpings, I did feel a bit worried about Devin, but I didn't feel anxiety.
I felt... great.
"Aw, Love. I don't want it to end as well, but it doesn't work that way, you know" Lucas chuckled and gave me a tight hug, but I couldn't help my eyes from getting teary.
We stood there in front of the Christmas tree, just hugging. After a few minutes, I wiped my teary eyes, and Luas took a photo of us together in front of the Christmas tree.
After taking the photo, we held hands and went to the car to drive back.
