Just yesterday night as his wife was coming home to him, she collapsed in the parking lot. Bailey was the one who called him, and in a panic, he had Amelia stay with the kids and he drove to the hospital as fast as he could.
Now, he was currently sitting in a chair besides her bed, dressed in full PPE. It was actually against the rules for a loved one to be In the Covid wing, but since he worked there, he was the exception. That and everybody knew there was no way Derek shepherd would leave her alone.
It had been confirmed that Meredith did test positive for Covid just about an hour after she collapsed. Her oxygen levels were extremely low, so they had her hooked up to a high flow oxygen mask.
Just as he was going over her sats in his head, Meredith started to wake up.
"Hey." Derek said softly as he stood up. Meredith met his eyes and looked confused. "What.....what happened?" She murmured, trying to sit up and pull down the oxygen mask.
"You, my dear, passed out in the middle of the parking lot." Derek replied, keeping the oxygen mask firmly to her face and pulling the bed up.
"You tested positive for Covid." He said gently. Meredith's eyes widened and she gulped nervously. "Crap." Meredith replied with a sigh.
"You're gonna be fine, though. How are you feeling?" He asked, grabbing her hand, though he had gloves on. "My chest hurts." She answered honestly.
"That's Normal." Derek said. On the outside, he may sound and look completely calm and relaxed, but on the inside, to tell the truth he was terrified.
He had seen so many patients test positive for this virus, and seen so many of those patients pass away. And even though his wife was a healthy middle aged woman, it was still so scary to think about.
"How are the kids? I mean, you were home, right? What did you say to them?" Meredith asked. "I just told them I had to go back to work. Zola might've caught on to something, but the other two didn't." He replied.
"Well, I'm probably here for at least a week. We need to tell them." Meredith said. "We can do that." He said with a nod.
"Derek?" Meredith asked quietly after a moment. "Yes?" He replied. "I'm scared." She admitted in a whisper.
Derek smiled sadly and climbed into the bed next to her, which definitely wasn't allowed. But Derek was completely covered in PPE. Not even an inch of skin was exposed.
"I know you are. I am too." Derek admitted back. "I'll be fine, right?" She asked, looking for some certainty.
"You'll be just fine. We won't let anything happen to you." Derek said, trying to believe his own words as he felt her relax against his body.
"You need to sleep." Derek whispered. "I won't go anywhere. Close your eyes." He said, encouraging her.
"I love you." Meredith said sleepily. "I love you too."
Don't we just love it when Derek is Alive?
