I was surprised when Peter began climbing a set of stairs in a random alleyway. I stared up at him, wondering where he was going.
"Peter, this doesn't look like a skate park." I raised an eyebrow, seeing him peering down at me with a grin. He walked down a few flights and was now face-to-face with me.
"Don't you trust me?" He asked, stretching his hand out for me to take. I gave him a nervous glance before taking his hand. He pulled me up the stairs, not letting my hand go until we reached the top. The way his hand felt in mine was- it felt warm. We've held hands before so I don't know what I'm freaking out about.
As soon as we made it, I let go of his hand and moved both my hands to rest on my knees. I was panting heavily, not expecting the stairs to go up that high. I looked around to find us on the roof of the building. My heart began to race when Peter stood over the edge. I jogged over to him, making sure I was there in case he fell.
"What do you think?" He raised his arms out towards the lit-up city in front of us. I had to give it to him, I had never seen a view like this. I walked closer to him, slowly opening my mouth in astonishment. He had his hands in his pockets, watching my reaction.
"It's beautiful, Peter." After answering, he threw his backpack off, holding onto both our skateboards. I turned around, seeing he was waiting for me.
"Alright, hop on." He placed a foot on my skateboard. I grabbed his shoulder as I rested one foot on it, afraid I'd fall. Why did I agree to do this?
"There will always be one leg on the skateboard at all times when you're riding," he patted my leg, "The other foot is the force that gets you going."
"So, it's like a scooter?" I compared.
"Similar. Except, there's nothing you can hold onto. That's why when you want to stop, you need to stop with your foot." He demonstrated, flawlessly riding his skateboard to my left. I watched as he broke the motion by forcefully gliding his foot on the ground. Seeing him do it made it look easy.
I wanted to try it myself. I kept my foot firmly on the skateboard as I pushed my other leg back, making me move forward. I only moved a few inches, but that just made me want to keep going. Peter rushed to my side, placing a hand on my back as I began to make progress. I picked up the pace a bit, kicking with my foot.
"There you go, Ro! I told you it would be-"
I accidentally moved my foot in an awkward way, causing the board to slip forward under me. I lost balance and fell. Before I could hit the ground, a protective pair of arms wrapped themselves around me. I frantically latched onto Peter's collar, not noticing I wasn't going to fall from his grasp. I was still in a dipped position, seeing him examine my features.
"Are you okay?" He asked me. I nodded, finding one of my hands wrapped around his neck. One of his hands was on my upper back and the other was wrapped around my waist. His touch made my skin go cold. I froze in place, not knowing what to say. It was then that I realized why his presence made my eyes light up in ways I didn't know they could. This new feeling was never supposed to unfold.
I like my best friend.
My heart fluttered at this. But, this can't mean anything. Peter is my closest friend. We agreed to not cross the boundaries of our friendship. If I really did like him, I'd stay in the friend zone.
He lifted me so I was leveled with him. I couldn't stand being in this position, knowing it didn't mean anything to Peter but a silly accident. I placed my hands on his arms, pushing him away. I saw his face fall slightly once we untangled ourselves.
"Thanks for catching me." I didn't look at him. Because, after that, all I wanted was to look into his eyes. I guess I've felt like this for a long time and am just now opening my eyes. I wanted to be with Peter Parker. I wanted to do things couples do with him without feeling awkward. I wanted him.
