"A deal's a deal, I guess," Bruno takes her into his room right as the party ended. She's utterly nervous of what might happen, or rather what they'd see in her future. This feeling she has for Bruno has always been placed on the scale, it was why she restricted him from ever looking into her future love life, much to Julieta and Pepa's dismay. Carina feared of the possibility that Bruno wasn't the one who's destined for her, or that if he reads it, it'll blow all her chances. She guessed she was being too prideful and didn't think through when they made this deal.
Little did she know, Bruno felt the same as he began pouring the sand in a circular pattern, "W-We really don't have to do this. We can just do something like a-an alternative."
"Just do it. I'm already an adult anyway. I better get ready of what's ahead of me," Carina kept on rubbing her sweaty hands on the skirt, a sure sign that she's freaking out.
He finishes the circle and puffs his palms together to get the sand away, then places it on both her shoulders with a deep stare into the girl's eyes, "Listen, Carina, this is a very important vision that we're going to see. It will base off of the biggest part that will fill your life," Bruno gulps before continuing, "Look on the bright side! Every guy in the village is a wonderful person. There's Pierre, he's always punctual with his daily tasks, does a lot for his family even if he easily gets sick. Oh, and Martin! That guy's tough. Or maybe it'll be Carlos," he laughs, "he's the most handsome one in our age."
"But he sure can be pretty annoying," her face shows grimace at the thought of that egoistical one.
"Or what if it's Gerardo? He may not be the most good looking, but he sure can make a great mondongo. You'll turn from a bamboo stalk into a ceiba in no time."
"..I guess they're okay," Carina smiles inconsolably, her hand lingering over his for a few seconds before she takes it off her shoulder, "But whatever happens... you'll always be there for me, right?"
His right hand goes from her shoulder, to push some strands of hair behind her ear, his smile wavering a little but genuine as it can be, "Of course. We're best friends after all. You've always got my back, so it's only fair for me to do the same."
'So no matter what, even if... you're not the one for me, you'll always be by my side,' this thought finally calms her down.
Bruno chuckles, "You act more and more like Pepa lately. My sisters really influenced you a lot." This manages to make Carina laugh.
"Well ain't that for the better? Everyone wants me to be all girly and responsible now."
"I think you're fine the way you are," he bluntly stated, lighting up a match. "Without all the pushing and shoving and punching of course."
"Hey, stop ruining my style," the girl shakes her head, smiling, and sits down in the circle where four stones have now been lit.
Bruno takes a deep breath and prays before starting the ritual. He offers both his hands, which Carina would take before the sand begin swirling around them, creating a big dome of prophesies.
"It still looks amazing no matter how many times I see it," she laughs, letting the sand hit her fingers as she reached to the side.
"Look," he pointed behind her.
Carina turns to her back and sees herself attending countless weddings alone, then it changes to a scene where a hand reaches out to hers. The form looks that of a man. "Who is it?"
Bruno squints his glowing green eyes, trying to see a little bit clearer, "I can't tell."
The scene jumps into her crying, her brother who looks older in the vision consoles her, her mother yelling angrily at her, basically it was not turning out great that Bruno wanted it to stop.
"No, wait," she grabs his hand, "I still didn't saw who it was!"
"But you've seen far too much now. It could greatly affect your outlook on this—"
"I wanna see who it is, Bruno. I wanna see who and how this person could relate to everything we're seeing right now."
He looked hurt, he didn't recognize that person as being him so it had to be someone else. Out of the two, Bruno couldn't accept the way things are going to come, but since Carina wants to know, he has no choice but to continue with an aching heart.
"...Alright," he nodded, looking more into the vision.
They now see her and the man hugging, Carina stands up to somehow see clearer. Bruno focuses on that image, trying to see just a bit more closer. "Who the heck..." as soon as they finally saw the face, all tension left their frames, "...is that?"
The sand falls around them, and he's now left with an afterimage, a rectangular and fragile picture stone glowing in green. It's the image of that guy and her in each other's arms.
Bruno stared at it with a dry laugh before handing it to Carina, who is just as disheartened as him. "Well that's... surprising."
The boy doesn't look familiar at all, not in their age range at least. His clothes looks a bit different, and he doesn't look like anyone from the village at all. Carina glances up to him, "Any idea who it is?"
"Not a clue," he chuckled, "I wonder if he's still a kid right now? Or maybe still not born yet?"
"Oh, no. Please don't jinx me," she groans, "That would be way too ridiculous and a whole lot gross."
Bruno laughs, although it died down pretty quickly, "But hey, at least it's not Madrigal's black sheep, eh? That'd be really troublesome and a lot more disgusting, am I right?"
Carina smiles at him, gulping down the uneasiness that blocked her throat, "Yeah."
It's all she can ever say. Had it been Bruno that they had seen except for this unknown man, she would've told him everything that's on her mind, what she really feels about him. But it seems like that dream was completely washed off the list. Not once in this prophecy that Bruno had shown up, so it could be that he never ever was in her love life on the coming years. They'll stay as friends like they are since children.
'Well.... if he's still going to be in my life just as he promised, then I guess that's enough,' she admits to herself defeatedly.
