---- RILEY ----
you tore out my heart - tiny little houses
I didn't go to archeology class on Wednesday. Or Friday, for that matter. Instead, I enjoyed an extra hour of sleep and was trying my hardest to avoid thinking about anything related to Mason Harrison. But, if I'm being honest, that is a lot easier said than done.
Tryovens Creek takes great pride in their hockey team, and with the hockey season right around the corner, there has been extra coverage surrounding the team. Posters are up in academic buildings and, on the bus stops, every house in Greek village has a banner showing their support for the team, and the university has been making endless hockey posts on Instagram. To be blunt, the hockey team seems to be everywhere nowadays.
And what player is front and center in nearly every single photo? Oh, you know... their captain, Mason Harrison. His deep green eyes stare straight into my soul every time I see one of the posters, and it makes a shiver run down my spine.
So although I've been trying to avoid Mason, it hasn't really been working that well for me.
The past few days, though, I've just been spending the majority of my time in my room. Besides leaving to go to my classes, where attendance was mandatory, and to eat, I have been locked away in my room. I'm thankful that midterms are only a few weeks away because it kept Hope and Layla from wondering why I've been so secluded.
As I flip through the pages of one of my textbooks, my phone starts obnoxiously blaring and lighting up. It is Liam's ringtone, and just hearing the familiar tone makes my stomach twist in knots. Lately, he's been in a terrible mood and taking it out on me. I've sort of been avoiding him as well, just so he doesn't yell at me.
"Hey baby." Liam's voice is sweet and carefree on the other side. He surprisingly sounds like he is in a good mood.
"Hey."
"What's up Ri?"
"Kind of a lot, actually." I sigh and stare at the scattered notes and open textbook in front of me. "I have a really big midterm for one of my pscyhology classes soon, and I need to start studying."
"You can't take five minutes out of your night to talk to your boyfriend?" Liam pouts.
"Liam I-"
"Riley, I make time for you whenever you call. It doesn't matter what I'm doing, I always make time for you."
That is totally a lie, but it doesn't make me feel any better.
I let out a ragged breath as Liam practically scolds me over the phone. I knew that answering this call was not going to be pleasant. "Liam, that's not fair."
"I feel like you don't love me anymore, Riley."
Pardon?
The silence between the two of us after Liam says those words is suffocating. After six years together, he is seriously considering my feelings for him on a random Saturday night?
