"What are you doing?" Liam's voice barks over the phone.

Liam has been my boyfriend since my sophomore year of high school. It's hard to believe that it's been almost six years since he asked me out. We've had ups and downs and lots of arguments, but I love him with my whole heart.

He is in college back home, so we are currently in a long-distance relationship, but I really believe that things are going to work out with us.

I honestly can't imagine myself dating anyone else. It has always been Liam.

"Um, I'm standing in line at the bookstore."

From the corner of my eye, I can see Mason eyeing me. I was relieved that he was the one that sat down next to me this morning in the lecture hall. I had been stressing all morning while I was getting ready that I wouldn't know anyone in the class, so I was excited to see a somewhat familiar face.

"You didn't text me back this morning."

"Yeah, I know I'm sorry. I had to rush to my 9 a.m. lecture."

"Babe, if we want this to keep working, then you have to answer my texts. Communication is key."

"Liam, it was one text."

"One text will only turn into you never answering."

"You know that's not true." I bite my lip as anxiety fills my stomach. I hate it when Liam gets upset with me.

"Listen Ry," his voice sounds strained, and I can sense his anger and frustration from across the country. "I didn't call to argue with you. I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

"I'm o-" As I go to respond, the line goes dead. He hung up on me. No, 'I love you' or 'I gotta go babe.'

Nothing.

I sigh and push my phone into my back pocket as an overwhelming sense of guilt settles over my body.

"Trouble in paradise?" Mason asks from beside me.

"Yeah, I guess so." The line moves some more, and we are almost at the counter to order our archeology book.

"So," he clears his throat. "You have a boyfriend?"

"His name is Liam." I nod.

"He goes to Troyven's?"

"Absolutely not." I laugh.

Liam is such a homebody. He would have never come to school in Texas, hell he rarely ever comes to visit me. I am always hopping in the car or on a plane whenever we are on break from class so that I am able to visit him.
